Honeymoon's over for Jessica and Nick

Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson have split. Seriously. It’s not just another rumor making its way through the celebrity tabloids, but rather, as my sister noted during Thanksgiving dinner, ”they said it on the Today show, so it must be true.” Um, exactly. Or in other words, the couple’s spokesperson made the official announcement Wednesday. Let’s just hope a followup reality series, Divorcees!: Nick and Jessica, isn’t imminent.

You know, in some ways I have to feel sorry for those two. Having just about every media outlet in America predicting the forthcoming demise of your marriage has to be a dificult thing to live with. Perhaps now they’ll leave Nick & Jessica alone and move on Britney & K-Fed.

I saw the Today show on Thursday. The amount of time the dedicated to their break-up was embarassing.
I actually heard one of the talking heads say “A lot of girls around the country are going to wake up and be really saddened by this news because a lot of them wanted this couple to make it.”
Dear, God! No wonder the rest of the world hates us!

Nick, despite her killer body, what were you thinking???
I have to admire your attempt at socializing a child whos parents wrapped her in a coccoon. If they thought they were preparing her for adulthood, they were mistaken. Her cute ignorance of all things commomplace is sad. Both parents should be charged with neglect of a minor.

There are some things which are meant to be private. A couples marriage is one of them. No wonder Hollywood Marriages rarely work, people just will not leave them alone! Add in a overbearing, powerhungry, creepy ex-minister of a father to the mix and this marriage never stood a chance. Do you ever get the feeling that Joe continued to be the man in the life of his daughter instead of letting Nick take over that role of husband? I do. Better luck next time Jessica … that is if your Dad let’s you have another go around … and Nick … You fought the good fight … and lost. At least your free from the weird psychosis that is The Simpson Family.

    Two words Creepy Dad
    enough said.

I agree with you, Tommy G. People should have just let them alone.

Is this really a surprise? Their personal lives got more press then their “careers”. Her only claim to fame (or infamy) before Newlyweds was her often-mentioned-despite-the-fact-that-no-one-gives-a-rats-ass virginity. His claim to fame was a boy band/faux-Chippendales act. He was a mature individual. She’s a ditzy Britney wannabe with ambitious creepy parents. This marriage was doomed from the start. If they only did the following: 1) kept their private life private, 2) not do a reality show, and 3) fire creepy manager dad (and keep his trap shut) and creepy stylist mom, all would’ve been good.

Talkman That was one of the funniest things I’ve ever read..I totally agree by the way.

Toomy G how can you feel bad for this couple? They are the ones that invited the entire Mtv viewing audience and the rest of the world (including the media) into their marriage. If privacy was what they were looking for then my guess is the cameras they invited in were a mistake. PULEASE – these two got exactly what they wanted – more publicity. And if it “accidentally” ruined their marriage then that’s their own fault.

I must admit that this news, combined with the news that Alias won’t return for a 6th season made for a sad Thanksgiving dinner. The silver lining, I guess, is that perhaps one day I will run into Ms. Simpson, and she will agree to go on a date with me…

I think that Joe Simpson is a major MAJOR Nut job. He and his wife need to learn to let their kids grow up. Although now that they have sheltered them for so long I dont know if it would be such a good idea to let them especially jessica into the real world…it could be dangerous…

There’s a lesson to be learned here: Guys, don’t date–let alone marry–any girl who calls herself a Daddy’s girl. Run like hell in the opposite direction and find a chick who can take care of herself.

How do you expect a marriage like theirs to make it. When you have a ditzy blonde, controlled by her parents. Who has never done anything in her life but shop. It was obvious that Jessica was more interested by her dad than her husband. Marriages like that never last in the real world, let alone in Hollywood

I was actually kind of surprised, but I think the tabloids and their incessant rumor-mongering played a huge role. Of course, if Nick and Jessica had had a strong relationship, the break-up rumors wouldn’t have affected them as much. However, those rumors must have had a huge effect on their already unstable marriage. Reminds me of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston a bit.

Kinda sucks. Not that they were the greatest thing to happen to the world of celebrity couplings, but the show was cute- and I actually thought it had lasting potential.
My thoughts are that Jessica let her career and the tabloids get in front of her dedication to Nick, and in return he most likely shut down (you remember when he got angry on Newlyweds, right?).
Thanks Nick and Jess, for promoting the common theory that star’s marriages can hardly last longer than a couple to (*gasp*) five years…
