What's Destiny's Child's best song ever?

Categories: Music

162052__dc_lWith Destiny’s Child’s #1’s debuting at No. 1 on this week’s Billboard album chart, I thought it might be fun to pay tribute to Kelly, Michelle, and Beyoncé with a PopWatch countdown of the group’s three all-time best tracks. But after reviewing DC3’s prolific, terrific output, I found myself paraphrasing one of the group’s well-known song lyrics: I don’t think I can handle this! I mean, a guy just might, ahem, lose his breath leaving out such gems as ”Is She the Reason?,” ”Jumpin’, Jumpin’,” and ”Survivor,” but here goes anyway.

3) ”Bills, Bills, Bills”: Those neck-snapping beats, Beyoncé’s legendary phrasing, and the landmark use of the word ”automobills.” Genius.

2) ”Bootylicious”: No single single showcases the group’s rarely praised sense of humor better. Plus, just try to resist Michelle’s command to ”make your booty touch the ground” when the Stevie Nicks sample kicks in.

1) ”Independent Women Part 1”: All you readers, who believe this, throw your hands up at me! (Sorry.)

Okay, you’ve got my picks. What’s your favorite Destiny’s Child jam?

I would have to say that one of the best destiny’s child songs would have to be Say My Name, but I am a fan of all things Desitny Child.

  • William Schneider

I would have to pick “Say My Name”. How many other pop songs could use a cabasa and sleigh bells so effectively?

  • Joe

How can I pick? Any song from Survivor is acceptable, and Bug-a-Boo is pretty good, too. If I had to pick, Id say Happy Face or Nasty

  • miv

i like their early stuff, “no,no,no” and “say my name as well”

  • Marcus

Glad to see “Is She the Reason” up for consideration. It was the song the most flew under the radar off of “The Writings on the Wall”
I think I’m going with “Bills” or “Say My Name” however

  • dlmn

My top three would have to be………
    1.Emotions(begees song originally)
    2.Independent Women
    3.Lose My Breathe

  • EP Sato

Bootylicious remains my fave. What an awesome word! The song ain’t that bad either, though I bet them Philly fans were not happy to see them girls wearing Lakers jerseys while they sang it…

independent women, and i seem to find myself leaving the same radio station on when ‘cater 2 u’ comes on so that must count for something, esp. ause i’m not exactly aa destiny’s child fan.. i just don’t buy their albums, i don’t dislike them.

  • Cprach

    Mine would be:
    3. Jumpin’ Jumpin’
    2. Independent Women
    1. Say My Name
so hard to narrow it down to just three, though!

  • LuvDC

I LOVE all of DC’s singles!! Michelle, Beyonce, and Kelly are such talented singers, leaving us with some of the greatest R&B/pop songs over the last decade…I love “Say My Name,” “Soldier,” “Jumpin’ Jumpin’,” and “Girl.” But if I absolutely had to choose, they would be:
3.”Bootylicious”-Best song to go crazy to!
2.”Emotion”-I love the beat of this song and the meaning it has.
1.”LOSE MY BREATH”-Basically, my favorite dance song!!!
And…my new DC favorite, “Stand Up For Love,” it really has to be the group’s overall best song!!
    I LOVE YOU DESTINY’S CHILD!!!

  • BeckEye

Bootylicious is the best. I could be in bed with mono and that song would make me get up and dance.

  • Leah

I have to go back to the spring of freshman year when ‘no no no’ (or is it ‘no no no no no”?) was played at every lawn party.

  • Pete Lucchesi

I love Destiny’s Child my favorite three are
    3. Emotions
    2. Independent Women
    1. Survivor
I can’t believe no one has suggested Survivor as a favorite, it is so catchy and fiesty. One of the songs that defines Destiny’s Child in my mind.

Can we have more than one favorite #1 DC3 song? I mean, come on… how can I argue that “Bills, Bills, Bills,” “Bootylicious” and “Independent Woman” don’t belong in the top 3? I can’t… However, how can it be a top 3 without “Say My Name,” a song that has so much attitude and sass, that it hurts? I’m sad to see that this is the end for my girls. But I comfort myself with the fact that sooner or later Beyonce will have to come out with a follow up to her first solo album.

  • michael r.

Stand Up For Love is a great song. A classy way to go out…love these girls

  • meg

    best DC song is Survivor

  • Jai

    My choices:
    1. Survivor
    2. Independent Women Part 1
    3. If/Is She The Reason?
Bonus: “Perfect Man” off the “Romeo Must Die” OST. It is a great song.
Note to previous poster: Is She The Reason is off the “Destiny Fulfilled” CD.

  • Joe Blow

Survivor is by far the best DC song ever!!! Followed maybe by Independent Woman and Bills, but they pale in comparison!!

  • Ramury

This is hard, I mean there are so many choices.
    I have to go with
    1. Say My Name
    2. Bills, Bills, Bills
    3. Free
Speacial mention “Independent Women Part 1″, “Bootylicious”, and “Get on the Bus”

My 14yo son asked me the other night if I could go back to highschool in the 80’s for a day which word or phrase from today would I introduce to the people. I decided “bootylicious” would be the most fun because of the expression it would evoke on peoples faces. I am not a huge DC fan, but here are my 3:
    3. Bootylicious (love the Stevie Nicks sample)
    2. Bills, bills, bills
    1. Lose My Breath (it’s all about Beyonce & co battling themselves in the video. You got served! No, YOU got served! No, I got served! Good times indeed.)

  • jason

my favorite non-singles are “temptation” from the writing’s on the wall and “brown eyes” from survivor. top 3 singles are
    1.) independent women part 1
    2.) bootylicious
    3.) lose my breath
but like all the others i love ALL OF THEM!!!

  • Deme

1-Bug-A-Boo (how has nobody else choosen this?)
    2-Bootylicious
    3-Independent Women Pt. 1

  • Cara

    In no particular order:
    Love Child
    Waterfalls
    Seasons Change
    Foolish

  • Kent in Kentucky

Best dance song: Jumpin, Jumpin – there’s nothing better than being in a club when this song comes on.
Best slow song: Emotion. The old Samantha Sang remake is perfection.

Bootylicious has to be the best song even though I love Soldier and Independent Woman.

  • Watcher

Favorite song is “Soldier” (less well-known) but they have definitely turned out a number of songs that make you want to sing and dance along. Good-bye…

  • mario

No, No, No, (the slow one…don’t know if ts Pt 1 or Pt 2)
    Say My Name
    Independent Women
    Opera of the bells
    Apple Pie Ala mode
    This Christmas

  • Marcus

Wow I totally confused Is She the Reason with She Can’t Love You for some reason. Both great however

  • Jessica L. Burton

My favorite Destiny’s Child would definitely be Through With Love. It has a great beat, great harmony, and great message. Also, I love Sexy Daddy from SURVIVOR.
