TV ratings: Is Tuesday the new Thursday?

9153__bones_lIs Tuesday about to rival Thursday as the most competitive night on network TV?

My Name Is Earl looks like a much-needed sitcom hit for NBC, premiering strongly two nights ago with about 15 million viewers and taking a bite out of Fox’s House and a nibble out of the WB’s Supernatural. Next week, the competition should be even fiercer, with ABC’s Commander in Chief and CBS’ The Amazing Race joining the 9 p.m. timeslot war. Add Fox’s new sorta-hit Bones (starring David Boreanaz, left) and CBS’ increasingly popular NCIS at 8, plus new 10 p.m. rivals Boston Legal (ABC) and Law & Order: SVU (NBC), and you’ve got a real TiVo-confounding night of programming.

Readers, what will you be watching on Tuesdays?

I’ll watch Gilmore Girls and tape Bones at 8. At 9, I’ll watch Amazing Race and probably tape What About Earl/The Office while watching Supernatural on Sunday’s ‘EasyView’. Then at 9… nip/tuck. I still need to figure out what I’ll watch on Thursdays…

Earl was better than I expected, but the Office has finally come into its own. Was it improved writing, a more humane sense of these characters, or was there just a better energy about it all now that Carrell has become a hit in his own right? Whatever it was, The American version of the Office has finally gotten to the level of its British Predecesor.

I agree with you Josh! I also watch GG and TiVo Bones. But i watch Supernatural (with the lights off and candle lit for added cheesiness–try it, it’s great!) and TiVo Earl and the Office. I have no desire to watch anything with Geena Davis or The Amazing Race.

    House

Earl was great, but I have a long standing relationship with Amazing Race. I especially need to watch it now that there are families of 4 in the mix. I need Tivo, or a girlfried who has it. Or a girlfriend……………

    House and Gilmore Girls!

  • Cyndi

WHAT TO WATCH!?!? I’ll watch Bones at 7 (central) Amazing Race at 8 and record House to watch at 9. Tough night!!

  • Tim

Speaking of ratings did Arrested Developement do better in it’s new time slot? How did The Office do? Any ideas?

  • Mozz

I’m gonna watch BONES on first run and Gilmore Girl on repeats later in the season. I know the WB loves to put some shows on sunday repeats almost immediately, so I’ll do that with GG, sorry GG, it’s just that I’ve been squinted and boned all at once. Really love that show’s look.

I will be watching Gilmore Girls at 8, and at 9 watch Commander, Tivo The Amazing Race, and tape My Name is Earl in the spare room. Not a big fan of the Crime/Alien/Legal stuff.

  • Diane

I’ll watch NCIS and TiVo Bones. Then I have to have my House fix at 9:00 followed by the TiVoed Bones at 10:00. I’ll TiVo Commander in Chief once and watch it during the weekend. If it isn’t good, I probably won’t bother again.
Am I the only one who will miss Rockstar INXS.

tuesday has always been the new thursday. remember, before the days of TiVo, when gilmore girls and buffy were on at 8pm? scrubs vs. amazing race (minus the other bad sitcoms NBC tried to pair with scrubs) frasier vs. anything else that was on?
if anything, perhaps WEDNESDAY is becoming the new TUESDAY.
lost vs. veronica mars. america’s next top model vs. martha stewart. the list goes on…

  • Todd

Gimme My Name is Earl and The Office, I won’t bother with anything else

  • jenny

Yes, Diane. You are the only one who will miss RockStar:INXS. Did anyone watch that?
I love the Gilmore Girls. And Jason Lee looks oddly sexxy with the Fu Manchu ‘stache! Anyone else think so? Or are my white-trash family roots starting to show.

  • Robert

I’ll be watching GG & My Name Is Earl/The Office, while my trusty VCR tapes both Bones & House, simply because it’s easier to set it for 2 straight hours on 1 channel than 2 hours on 2 separate channels.
