Deals: Nicole Kidman

9342__nicole_lProduction Weekly has the scoop on two Nicole Kidman projects: In one, she’s a woman in a small town who discovers her neighbors are apparently being replaced by conformist drones. Sounds like a sequel to The Stepford Wives, but it’s actually the umpteenth remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. PW reports that production begins on the Warner Bros. feature in Baltimore in October.

After three Hollywood remakes in two years, Kidman will earn some art-house cred (in the Dogville sense) by starring in A Lady From Shanghai for the Hong Kong master Wong Kar-Wai (In the Mood for Love). Title aside, it’s apparently not a remake of the Orson Welles-Rita Hayworth classic; rather, it’s a thriller that would star Kidman as a 1950s woman in love with a spy. It will also mark Wong’s first European film, with locations said to include St. Petersburg, Russia. Wong is one of the coolest directors alive (I’ve met him, and he keeps his sunglasses on indoors, that’s how cool he is), so I’m looking forward to this.

As much as I like Nicole Kidman as a actress, she needs to stop making remakes. Didn’t she learn her lesson from the first 2?

nicole kidman is arguably the most talented actress today, she can sell ice to an eskimo, so she can definetly do any remake she wants

Please allow me off the topic. I can still remember the first time I met Wong Kar-Wai. It was 1991, in a forum holding for the directors who were nominated for Best Director of Golden Horse Award. (Taiwan’s Oscar) A lot fans participated the forum and asked a lot of questions. At that time, he already kept his sunglasses on indoors. And he was so relax and easy, it looked like that he just had some conversation with friends. By the way, there were four directors nominated in 1991, they were Wong Kar-Wai (‘A Fei jing juen’), Yuen Ling-yuk (‘Yuen Ling-yuk’), Ang Lee (‘Pushing Hands’) and Edward Yang (‘A Brighter Summer Day’). What a great year.

Sunglass is one of his signatures. Behind schedule is another signature. Rumor in Hong Kong suggests that he does not have scripts at all during shooting. Of course it does not necessary to be true, but his movie does take a lot of time to shoot. For example, the-soon-to-be-seen movie 2046 was taken about 3 years to shoot. It is quite a long time and I wonder if Nicole Kidman has that kind of time as she just claims she wants more time with her family and her children.

Very cool. Nicole is one of the best actresses around so her doing these 2 just makes you love her more when she signs on to do a big budget movie(Invasion) and an arthouse(A Lady From Shanghai.
Also I cant wait to see her in Fur, in which she plays Diane Arubus, noone does fragil like Nicole…..Oscar number 2 baby!
