155530__geena_lVast left-wing conspiracy or good old-fashioned entertainment? Pick your favorite quote from a panel discussion on ABC’s Commander-in-Chief (a drama about the first female U.S. president starring Geena Davis, left) at this week’s Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles.

A) ”It’s not like when I hired them they had to fill out aquestionnaire and say, ‘I’m a Democrat.”’ –show creator Rod Lurie, after no one onthe show’s panel copped to being a Republican

B) ”I’m involved in the politics of making sure that ABC and Touchstone are very happy with this show.” –Davis, who later said she is a Democrat

C) ”It’s naive to think that a woman can actually do an effective job in the primaries, unfortunately. But if Hillary [Clinton] does win the [presidential] nomination, we’re going to take credit.” –Lurie

Could they have cast anyone else other than Geena Davis? She’s so… blah. The only reason I’ll check this out is for Kyle Secor, who deserves something great.
After PHILLY and the TV movie for A WRINKLE IN TIME, no one is remembering his breakout role on HOMICIDE: Life on the Street.

I can’t believe Lurie’s last comment! It’s not naive to think a woman can do an effective job in the primaries, it’s naive to think that middle america would ever get their heads out of their a**es and vote for a woman, but that has nothing to do with her abilities. This man obviously would never vote for a woman himself, and is using the idea just to make some money, but doesn’t believe in the premise. And isn’t it like a man to want to take credit for a woman’s success (i.e. Hillary comment).

I think if this show works, it’ll have nothing to do with its politics or credibility and everything to do with how interesting the characters and stories are and how well it avoids the trap of preachiness (see: Jack and Bobby). So it could be great, but my guess is we’re more likely to be looking at a West Wing-lite.

Anyone else think that ABC’s “commander and cheif” is nothing more than the media’s first attempt at puting bleeding heart liberal moron, Hillary Clinton, in the next presidentail election?

I agree w/ the comment regarding America’s views on a woman for the presidency. It has nothing to do w/ whether a woman is capable…it is the issue of public opinion..I found the show refreshing, but then I suppose that I would consider myself one of those, what did it say above? ‘Liberal Morons?’ I will have to remove the moron portion..but hey…I think that Geena Davis is perfect for the role…it requires a professional look, attractive, and well..a demeanor that can withstand steel, which I believe that it is a role that Geena Davis is able to wonderfully portray. Kudos!

    I do, GL.
ABC works on behalf of the left. This is propaganda for the Hillary for President show airing in a year. American’s will vote for a women, as long as she is not a bleeding heart lying liberal.
