Jerry Lewis has been robbed. Sure, he’s getting the Governors Award, the top honorary prize, from the Emmys, but they’re giving it to him at the Creative Arts show on Sept. 10, eight days before the primetime ceremony. Yeah, thanks, Jer, for all your years of humanitarian fundraising on your Muscular Dystrophy telethons, but we can’t allow you to take any face time that properly belongs to the cast of The West Wing.
Is this the way to treat a show business god? He invented stoopid movie comedy as we know it today; without him, there’d be no Jim Carrey or Will Ferrell, and we’d remember Eddie Murphy as the guy whose career ended with Beverly Hills Cop III. C’mon, TV Academy, show Jerry some real love!

Personally, I’d rather watch the cast of “The West Wing” than Jerry Lewis any day. (Not so sure his fund-raising is as laudable as it looks, either — see http://www.raggededgemagazine.com/extra/jerrylewis052401.htm ).
I have a shelf filled with West Wing DVDs. You couldn’t pay me to watch Jerry Lewis. It’s hard to believe anyone ever thought his shtick was funny.
Jerry Lewis is a comedy god. He is one of my favorite people. None of the best comics would be around today if it weren’t for him. Jerry Lewis doesn’t get the respect he deserves here, as shown by the previous 2 comments.
Whether you love him or hate him, he has had a profound affect on showbusiness as we know it. He should be given the award at the primetime ceremony.
Anyone who has “a shelf filled with West Wing DVDs” can’t possibly know what good taste means.
“we can’t allow you to take any face time that properly belongs to the cast of The West Wing.” This comment is just moronic in light of the fact that the cast of The West Wing has only two nominations. It’s not like they’re hogging the spotlight at the ceremony.
With out Jerry Lewis there would have been no “Seinfeld” or any other worth while sit com. The man deserves respect for being one of the hardest working men in show business.
How completely uncalled for! I subscribe to EW AND am a huge West Wing Fan! HEY, EW, remember that time you had them on the cover! I think this Gary whats-his-face needs to apologize to the WW fans who subscribe to his place of employment. Yeah, it’s been down, but slamming a successful show like that for no good reason other than to be a jerk is unprofessional and uncalled for.
I think you all are taking Gary too literally. The point is that a legend like Jerry Lewis is not getting any face time in favor of other shows.
Try reading The Organ Grinder and the Monkey by Sam Moffie and get a fiction take on Jerry!
