Casey Abrams shaves beard for Inflammatory Bowel Disease awareness, completes transformation into Cabbage Patch Kid cop -- VIDEO

It’s an important milestone in any doughy young boy or doll’s life. Watch American Idol season 10 standout Casey Abrams (have his dad) shave his beard after the jump. Then tell me what frustrates you more — the kid’s complete inability to groom himself or his neglect to put Haley Reinhart on speakerphone?!

Batman Mr. Potato Head is the toy Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now

It’s simple: We eat the Batman.

From the minds that brought you Darth Tater, Elvis the Spud King, and this hellish nightmare comes the newest in a long line of pop culture-themed Mr. Potato Heads: Batspud!

The defender of Gotham comes complete with batarang, utility belt, and a permanent Gilbert Gottfried facial expression. And because this model ties in to The Dark Knight Rises, the Batsuit is noticeably (and thankfully) sans nipples. READ FULL STORY

LEGO announces deal to reimagine 'The Hobbit' universe

For years now, LEGO-playing fans of Tolkien’s universe have been forced to re-enact their favorite Middle-earth scenes with Han Solo, Dobby the House Elf and other franchise’s miniatures. But beginning next June, those days are history. Warner Bros Consumer Products has finally relented to bring all your favorite elves, hobbits, dwarves, wizards, and gollums to your precious LEGO universe. “It’s particularly exciting to now be able to create sets based on the fantasy worlds and characters from The Lord of the Rings trilogy and the two films based on The Hobbit, not only because we know they will foster collectability and creative play, but also because these are two properties that our fans have been asking us to create for years,” said Jill Wilfert, vice president, licensing and entertainment for The LEGO Group. “

A LEGO Lord of the Rings site has been set up, with the promise of upcoming announcements and details. For now, bask in the glow of your LEGO-ized precious. READ FULL STORY

Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry Barbies to be auctioned for charity: Which celebs should get the doll treatment?

Seeing as Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry have already technically modeled their entire makeup, hair, and wardrobe after Barbie (though, in all fairness, Barbie has never had to worry about a nip slip), it seemed only fitting that Mattel would transform the singers into their iconic dolls.

And they can be all yours for the low, low starting bid price of… $1,000.  Starting on Friday, CharityBuzz.com began to auction off the dolls, including Minaj’s plastic likeness named, perfectly enough, Minajesty Barbie, which boasts that the 11-½ inch replica of the colorful “Super Bass” singer has every part of her down pat, from her pink hair (jeez, bangs are everywhere today), right down to the tattoo she has on her left arm. 'Harry Potter' reaches another end: See the trailer for 'LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7' -- EXCLUSIVE

One of the most delightful sideshows of the multifaceted Harry Potter entertainment franchise has been the LEGO Harry Potter videogame series, an extension of the toy maker’s license to make play sets inspired by the Harry Potter movies. Now, this part of the whole magical magilla is coming to a conclusion, too, with the release of LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7, on sale Friday. It’s actually three games in one, as it contains adaptations of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, albeit it in LEGO’s trademark brick-and-whimsy language. The exclusive trailer — rich, as usual, with self-deprecation and visual pizzazz — promotes in particular the games’ play-with-a-friend cooperative mode and play-any-character-you-want functionality. Neat… but we’re never playing as Dobby, no matter how made-for-LEGO he may be. READ FULL STORY

Kim Kardashian -- recently named 2011's Most Annoying Celebrity -- is definitely a doll, right?

I was just watching a clip of tonight’s episode of The CW’s H8r — in which Kim Kardashian confronts a rather salty woman who openly hates her (pictured) — and kept imagining what would happen if someone suddenly reached over and attempted to flick Kim’s doll eyes shut. I’ve been fantasizing about this for months. Would she continue to smile placidly and caress her synthetic doll hair? Would the doll lashes snap off? Would she cross over to an even darker element and become the Kim Kardashian Old Navy Robot? Would she die? Because dolls are supposed to die when you do that. READ FULL STORY

Hot Wheels might get made into a movie. Sure! Why not?

Automobiles of all shapes and sizes are invading the multiplex. Next week, you’ll thrill to cars that talk in Cars 2: Cruise Control. Then, you’ll be positively astounded by cars that talk and walk in Transformers 3: Back 2 The Hood. But how’s this for a hot idea: Cars that… well, are cars. That’s the can’t-miss concept behind Hot Wheels: The Movie, which is a joke you probably would have laughed about back in 1981, and also an actual movie which very powerful companies are currently desperate to make. According to Variety, Legendary Pictures is negotiating with Mattel to get the rights to Hot Wheels, the series of toys beloved by generations of children who are too young for toys with any discernible traits beyond car-ness. The project is said to be “edgy,” which is a word the kids sure are tossing around a lot today according to adults. READ FULL STORY

'Cars 2' trailer turned into a toy story

Disney has put together a new trailer for Cars 2. Well, check that: It’s not really new, but it was put together — literally. The Pixar peeps built a LEGO reenactment of their first trailer to promote their June 24 release — and their line of LEGOS toys, of course. The child in me is mesmerized — LEGO missiles! LEGO explosions! — and desperately wants to believe this entire clip was shot in some humongous studio hangar where the elaborate LEGO landscapes and toys still exist for play, so don’t ruin it for me if you know that it’s all a clever CGI creation. Take a look. READ FULL STORY

On the scene at Time To Play's toy fair: 'Cars 2,' 'Green Lantern,' 'Pirates of the Caribbean,' and more!

When I was assigned to cover yesterday’s Time To Play’s Spring Toy Showcase in New York, my brain immediately changed the lyrics to Lady Gaga’s “Boys Boys Boys.” As I walked from display to display, I couldn’t help but think, “Toys, toys, toys, we like toys from Cars.” One, because I was a little proud of my version, even if it lacked much creativity; and two, because the toys from Cars 2 were actually really awesome! I even got to take home a few things for myself. (Try not to be too jealous.) Here’s an on-the-scene look at the new toys coming to a playroom near you:

CARS 2 (June 24) The Cars franchise has continued to grow since Lightning McQueen won his first Piston Cup in 2006’s smash hit. Jim Silver, editor-in-chief of TimeToPlayMag.com, told reporters that he expects the Cars franchise to surpass the Toy Story franchise in terms of toys sold. (There’s irony at its finest.) One new character caught my eye — British master spy Finn McMissile (voiced by Michael Caine). I wasn’t completely impressed until I saw the Zero-Gravity McMissile in action. The car can drive on a flat surface, and then transition up a wall! (See below.) Color me impressed, along with everyone else who flocked to see the demonstration. The other new character on display was Francesco Bernoulli, the Italian race car voiced by John Turturro. Who is this creepy doll supposed to be?

If only Our Gang was confronted with this doll, they’d never have briefly given up ownership of dear ol’ Petey. What? You say it’s not 1934? Okay, fine, then in modern terms, let’s just say this doll is extremely petrifying. But who is it? Michele Bachmann? Lynne from Real Housewives of Orange County? Someone who should get that purple growth checked out by a doctor? Answer after the jump! READ FULL STORY
