PRICE-IS-RIGHT

The Price Is Right is hiring its first male model this fall. Forget Barker’s Beauties; October 2012 is all about Carey’s Cutie. A few of our Burning Questions re: this bizarre development are below. Add yours!

What’s the ideal? Who exactly are Price is Right viewers looking for here? Would 70-year-old grandmoms prefer a young stud in his early 20s fondling their consumer products, or are we talking more, like, orange whisperer Ty Burrell? Is it Alex Pettyfer or Phillip Baker Hall? Is it Channing Tatum or William Shatner?

Who am I kidding? I know, I know. It’s Jon Hamm. READ FULL STORY »

Meet Miley Cyrus's new hair: Very bold, very blonde, and very, very short

She really can’t be tamed! Over the weekend, onetime Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus officially completed her de-Disneyfication by dyeing her locks a bright platinum blonde — and, oh yeah, chopping them off to make a Twiggy-inspired pixie cut. Dedicated Mileyphiles should have seen this makeover coming; last Monday, the 19-year-old tweeted that she was “ready for a change,” and yesterday she signaled the cut’s beginnings by cryptically writing, “it’s happening.”

Cyrus is clearly a fan of stylist Chris McMillan’s work: “Never felt more me in my whole life ❤,” she wrote yesterday after her strands had been snipped. It remains to be seen whether she got rid of her hair on a whim or for a reason, like a charity pledge — and how fiance Liam Hemsworth feels about his lady’s new look.

Either way, Miley will reportedly put her revamped ‘do to work this fall on Two and a Half Men: E! reports that Cyrus will guest star on the sitcom as a love interest for Angus T. Jones’ half-man.

Let us know what you think of the new Miley in the poll below. And is it just me, or is she now a dead ringer for Swedish woodland creature Robyn?

In case you missed it: NBC airs water polo nip slip

olympics-waterpolo-mishap.jpg

Poor, poor NBC: You’re damned if you tape-delay and damned if you don’t. Kabletown‘s redheaded stepchild accidentally stirred up more Olympics coverage controversy yesterday when one of its underwater cameras caught American water polo player Kamie Craig yanking down a Spanish opponent’s swimsuit — and exposing the Spaniard’s right breast in the process. Gonna have you nekkid by the end of this match!

The body part in question was visible for only a split second. Even then, it was partially obscured by the Spanish player’s arm, making it the least exciting wardrobe malfunction since Lindsay Lohan last showed off her Parent Trap. That, of course, hasn’t stopped viewers and news outlets from heaping abuse on NBC. (Criticizing the Peacock may just be our new national pastime.) I’m going to give them a pass on this one, though. After all, the network can’t control the actions of athletes, unless they happen to be American Gladiators.

Click below to see the moment of nontroversy. Oh, and in case you’re interested: The game ended in a 9-9 tie. Suit-grabbing Craig scored four of Team USA’s goals.

'Citizen Kane' no longer tops 'Sight & Sound' poll of the greatest films ever made: What now ranks as No. 1?

Citizen-Kane

We hope somewhere in movie-character heaven Charles Foster Kane still finds comfort in the memory of his childhood sled, because for the first time in 50 years Citizen Kane doesn’t top the Sight & Sound poll.

Every ten years since 1952, the London-based film magazine published by the British Film Institute conducts a sweeping survey of renowned critics and filmmakers to determine what many cinephiles consider to be the definitive list of the greatest movies ever made. The very first poll placed Vittorio De Sica’s Bicycle Thieves at the No. 1 spot. Ever since 1962, however, Orson Welles’ dazzling fake biopic has taken top honors.

Until 2012, that is. This year Sight & Sound tapped 846 critics and 358 directors to submit individual Top 10 lists. When all the ballots were tallied and aggregated, the magazine’s editors discovered that both the critics and directors had said, “Rosebud, schmosebud.” The critics’ pick for the new No. 1 is… READ FULL STORY »

Fred Willard breaks silence: 'Wait til u hear my version; much more PG'

fred-willard.jpg

By now you’ve probably heard that Best in Show beloved comedic actor Fred Willard was allegedly caught with his pants down at an adult movie theater last week, prompting undercover police officers to arrest him for lewd conduct. Subsequently, he was fired from his job hosting Market Warriors on PBS.

Up until now, Willard himself has been silent. But this morning, the actor tweeted, “Wait til u hear my version; much more PG. & my review, lousy film, but theater would make a terrific racquetball court. Full story 2 follow.”

140 characters or less, and the man still got a joke in! No word yet on what that “full story” is, but I join my colleague Ken Tucker in saying, “Free Fred!”  Willard went on to tweet a plug for the ABC show Trust Us With Your Life, which he currently hosts. “I was not fired from TUWYL so B sure 2 watch Trust Us Wtih your life Tues, ABC 9.”

Full version of events or not, one thing’s for sure — Phil Dunphy better be prepping one of his famous motivational cool dad speeches for a Very Special Episode next season of Modern Family.

You'll never guess what TV show is getting the musical treatment...

green-acres.jpg

Movie to musical transfers are a dime a dozen, but now it seems TV shows are getting in on the singing fun.

Green Acres, the classic sitcom that aired from 1965-1971, is being developed into a musical by film production company Hemisphere Two and Richard L. Bare, who directed more than 165 episodes of the show.

Variety reports, “Bare said he has penned an initial draft of the book; Richard Chapman (“Simon and Simon”), one of the principals of Hemisphere Two, and E. Jack Kaplan are onboard to rewrite. In Bare’s draft, the storyline of the musical picks up as if it were another episode of the series. No composer, lyricist or director is yet attached to the project.”

EW reached out to Hemisphere Two, but as of press time, had not heard back.

If Green Acres: The Musical is a success, what’s next? Gilligan’s Island? Beverly Hillbillies? What TV shows do you want to see a musical version of?

All of those crazy kids’ favorite vamps, wolves, “unique” hairstyles, a bunch of promos for Fox’s fall TV lineup, and scores of unwanted brightly hued surfboards came out to party at last night’s 2012 Teen Choice Awards.

The X Factor‘s Demi Lovato and Glee‘s Kevin McHale co-hosted. Flo Rida, Justin Bieber, and Carly Rae Jepsen performed, and — get this — No Doubt sang live. Hey, it is the ’90s!

The full list of TCA winners is on page 3 of this post; my own personal winners of Fox’s two-hour telecast are below. By all means, list your own in the comments.

Who's on your dream 'American Idol' judging panel?

Steven Tyler announced yesterday that he would not be returning as a judge to American Idol next season, and just moments ago Jennifer Lopez followed suit, announcing that the past season of Idol would be her last.

With Randy Jackson’s spot up in the air, the judging panel for the 12th season of the singing show staple is wide open. PopWatch got to brainstorming who we’d love to see in the judges’ (non-spinny) chairs.

What was the deal with the 'True Blood' Obama masks?

true-blood-obama-mask

On Sunday’s episode of True Blood, there was a scene toward the end where (Spoiler Alert!) Sam and Luna are shot outside Luna’s house. But it wasn’t just that shocking twist (Is Sam going to die? Is this the end for Luna? What about Emma?) that’s making people anxious. It’s what the assailants were wearing: Obama masks.

It’s an especially odd choice for the cable network considering the recent controversy on another HBO show, Game of Thrones. HBO found themselves in hot water when, on DVD commentary, the show creators admitted that a severed head was modeled after George W. Bush (after the ensuing public outcry, HBO edited the episode).
