'30 Rock': I now pronounce you divorced! Discuss the season 6 finale

Well, PopWatchers, “What Will Happen to the Gang Next Year?” was the finale to 30 Rock‘s penultimate season. Yup, season 7 will be the series’ last. And in terms of season finales, I have to say the season 6 ender was a little underwhelming. But at least they’ve now primed us for where things (might) be headed come fall. Will Liz and Criss have a baby? Will Jack become the supreme leader of KableTown? Will Kenneth…who cares what Kenneth does! But I’m getting ahead of myself here.

Liz and Criss continued their discussion about possibly having a plant baby together. Criss was particularly worried that Liz would bail on him. “You know what kind of women in their 40s have never been married, Liz? Uggos, crazies, and bailers. You’re not an uggo. And you’re haha crazy, not oh boy crazy, which means you bail!” So Criss set out to make enough money to pay for their apartment renovations. And when his hot dog business didn’t deliver, he sold his van, Van Der Beek. That’s true love.

'30 Rock' finale: Lizzing is what happens while you're busy making other plans

One never does well to make plans in the 30 Rock universe. Let us consider last year’s season finale: All Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) wanted was to spend the summer wearing comfortable clothes, spending time outside, and learning Spanish. And technically she did all those things — when she was sentenced to don a jumpsuit and work on a community service trash crew with a bunch of Latino criminals.

On 30 Rock, the best laid plans are often the source of the most perverse pleasure. They reveal, to quote Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) in that same episode, “[the show's] version of normal.” And yet, as we head toward tonight’s season finale, all the major players were making plans like they had only a few hours to live. '30 Rock': Welcome home, Avery Jessup!

Last night’s 30 Rock, “The Return of Avery Jessup,” unsurprisingly featured the return of Avery Jessup. Avery finally reunited with her family, and despite her prolonged absence, she and Jack decided to quickly go back to life as they once knew it. As expected, the power couple totally crushed their return to normalcy. But not before they both participated in a power struggle/head game that only Avery and Jack could concoct and not hate each other at the end.

'30 Rock': 'Queen of Jordan' returns. RUDE!

On last night’s 30 Rock, we were treated to a second episode of Angie’s Bravo reality series Queen of Jordan. As I said the last time 30 Rock deviated from its regular format, I’m kind of obsessed with the fake show. And it’s definitely something I would watch on a regular basis. '30 Rock' live: Top 6 differences between the East and West Coast feeds -- VIDEO

Anything can happen on live TV — including Sir Paul McCartney being replaced by the buxom reality star with the big behind. And as it did in 2010, 30 Rock embraced that ethos last night, airing slightly different episodes for East and West Coast audiences. (Both versions are now available on Hulu.) So, what did you miss if you only saw the episode that aired in your time zone? Here are the major ways the West Coast Feed (WCF) differed from the East Coast Feed (ECF):

1. Kim Kardashian stepped in for Paul McCartney
In the ECF, Kenneth shepherded the Beatle into Jack’s office to use his secret executive bathroom. In the WCF, Kim Kardashian got that honor instead. Both also showed up at the end of their respective episodes; McCartney revealed that he’d lost his memory, while Kardashian tweeted a photo and then revealed she had broken Jack’s toilet. '30 Rock': Discuss the series' second live show!

“Live television? Who cares?” Kenneth cares! And so do I. Tina Fey & Co. totally delivered on their second installment of the 30 Rock live show, and it featured special guests galore: Amy Poehler, Jon Hamm, Jimmy Fallon, Donald Glover, Fred Armisen, and even Sir Paul McCartney. You  know, because anything can happen on live TV! But on to the plot: In ”Live From Studio 6H” Jack broke the news to Liz that it was no longer financially practical to continue shooting TGS live. Instead, they’d shoot the entire season of the show in two weeks. You  know, like Wheel of Fortune or Fox News.

'30 Rock': Murphy Brown lied to us!

Is it too early to campaign for a full-time role for Kevin’s daughter, Catherine? The young girl — who was essentially a young Liz Lemon — might just be my new favorite character. And Lemon could totally use another mentor. I’m pretty confident Cat (Bebe Wood) would teach her a lot. Jack set Lemon up with “Sent from one of my four iPads” Kevin. Jack wanted to give her one final chance to see what she might be missing out on by staying with Criss. But that Jack, he’s always got something up his sleeve. The date was actually a play date with the aforementioned Cat, so Lemon would not give up her dream of having a kid. That Princess Leia costume isn’t going to Liddy just yet.

'30 Rock': Meet the Woggles!

The great Colleen Donaghy (Elaine Stritch) returned to 30 Rock last night to have heart surgery, but mostly to torture her son in every possible way. Colleen is one of the few people who can truly ruffle Jack’s feathers, which is probably why I love her so much. With Colleen’s recent ailments, Liz tried to convince Jack he needed to have “the talk” with her. No, not the birds and the bees, but the talk every child must have with an aging parent. But as Jack so eloquently put it: “There’s no need for us to start jabbering about our feelings and sobbing like Bill Belichick listening to Adele.” Spoiler Alert! Jack and Colleen did have their version of the talk, and Lemon humbly took the credit for it.

Complain Ask and you shall receive! Last week I expressed my frustration with 30 Rock‘s newest page, Hazel Wassername. And this week we were treated to a completely Hazel-free episode! And I have to say, I enjoyed the much-needed Hazel hiatus. In “Nothing Left to Lose,” Liz & Co. were required to fill out their self-evaluations for Kabletown. Stars gather for Serious Fun at 'A Celebration of Paul Newman's Dream'

The invitation to “kick back and raise a little hell” echoed throughout the night at “A Celebration of Paul Newman’s Dream,” the fundraiser for Newman’s Serious Fun Children’s Network (formerly Hole in the Wall Gang Camps). Indeed, it was one of the Oscar winner’s favorite refrains. Though Newman passed in 2008, his wife, Joanne Woodward, and daughter Clea Newman Soderlund have carried on his philanthropic legacy, which started with Newman’s Own in 1982 and extended in 1988 to the network of summer camps for children with serious illnesses.

Last night’s benefit at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall was full of big names — including Jake Gyllenhaal, Tina Fey, Elvis Costello, Trisha Yearwood, Jimmy Fallon, Paul Simon, and Josh Groban — but the night was really about the kids, who came from all over the United States and as far away as Israel, Italy, and Ireland. (Serious Fun has 28 camps and programs in more than 50 countries around the world, helping more then 380,000 kids in the last two decades.)

Gyllenhaal had his own memories of King Cool: “What I remember about Paul Newman is that, I was a kid who grew up knowing him more than anything as being on the cover of a salad dressing bottle,” he laughed. READ FULL STORY »
