Ryan Lochte reality show is probably happening. What should it be?

Jeah?

Ryan Lochte is probably getting his own reality show. EW previously reported that he was interested in either Dancing with the Stars or being the new Bachelor, but it seems Lochte had more individual stardom dreams. According to Celebuzz, Lochte said he is in talks with E! to get his own series. What on earth would it be about?

“Pretty much, they follow me on my normal day, just training, doing my own fashion line,” he said in a video interview with the site.

After watching his interviews with Matt Lauer, it’s hard to imagine him carrying an entire show, but I’m going to envision a couple scenarios on how Living Lochte could play out: READ FULL STORY »

Do Facebook political rants make you want to UnFriend?

This Nov. 17 is National UnFriend Day, the third annual holiday that encourages Facebook users to prune their roster of “Friends” of people they haven’t spoken to in 11 years, but nevertheless grant access to their online vacation photos. But with the Republican National Convention in full swing and the presidential campaign kicking in to high gear, it wouldn’t surprise me if many Facebook users are jumping the gun on the cleansing holiday.

Surely you’ve checked your Facebook account in the past two days to discover posts, links, and status updates related to the convention in Tampa, where Ann Romney, Chris Christie, and Paul Ryan have set the table for Mitt Romney to accept his party’s nomination for president tonight. Facebook is a forum that inspires great personal proclamations, sentiments we might be more reluctant to express in a real, face-to-face conversation. Looking at some of my Friends comments, I can’t decide if Facebook acts as an X-ray machine or a warping funhouse mirror. Some of the comments are so belligerent and obnoxious (and in many cases, misinformed) that one can’t help but feel to urge to… Unfriend. READ FULL STORY »

'Anger Management' gets 90-episode run on FX. What else could you do with 45 hours?

Wednesday’s news that FX’s Charlie Sheen vehicle of destruction Anger Management will produce 90 more episodes over the next two years has prompted us to think short and hard about how else we could piss away FORTY-FIVE HOURS of our one life on this earth. Presenting…

4 or 5 Alternative Uses of 45 Hours

1. Construct, then float along Laziest River
2. Interact with other humans
3. Finally write novel (50 Shades of I Don’t Give a F—)
4. Watch The Expendables 2 26.2 times, instead of running a marathon
5. ANYTHING. Literally anything else! Forty-five hours!!!

What’s your suggestion? Just comment with the first thing you think of. Keep it clean!

Taylor Swift thinks it 'would be amazing' to buy a house near her boyfriend

Taylor Swift is just itching for new song material! The queen of breakup has a new boyfriend in Conor Kennedy — Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s son — and is now considering buying a house near the Kennedy compound. Well, it’s certainly cheaper than flying the 18-year-old Conor out to her anytime she misses him. And as the “highest-paid celeb under 30” with a record-breaking single and highly-anticipated album, she certainly can afford it.

'Gallery Girls' vs. Ukraine's real-life 'Sleeping Beauty' art installation: Which is worse?

Where’s the art? I’m stumped.

I’ve been thinking a lot about this “living fairy tale” exhibit (see video below) at the National Art Museum of Ukraine, at which any male suitor above the age of 18 may kiss a young painted lady who’s pretending to be asleep. If she opens her eyes, they must get married. This is real! Look at her ear doilies! It’s all so bizarre and disease-y — but after settling in for some Monday night cable, I had to ask: Is it worse than Gallery Girls on Bravo?  READ FULL STORY »

Lifetime plans Anna Nicole Smith biopic -- but what's left to say?

Anna-Nicole-Smith.jpg

Only one woman in history has inspired a production at London’s Royal Opera House, a truly awful direct-to-DVD biopic, and an episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent: pioneering train wreck Anna Nicole Smith.

Even five years after her death, something about Smith still fascinates a certain subset of the public. Perhaps it’s because her rags-to-riches-to-overdose story seems simple, but boasts plenty of weird wrinkles: Smith was obsessed with Marilyn Monroe before it became trendy. Her relationship with billionaire J. Howard Marshall led to a case that eventually reached the Supreme Court. She was one of the first washed-up stars to attempt a reality show comeback, and her disastrous series set the template for dozens of copycat shows on VH1 and E! Anna Nicole wasn’t just an inexplicably famous celebrity; she was, for better or worse, a sort of icon, though what she represented is up for debate.

It makes sense, then, that Lifetime — home of Smith disciple Lindsay Lohan’s big comeback — is casting a new biopic about Playboy‘s most infamous centerfold. The call sheet, as reprinted by TMZ, lists the players tabloid readers now know well: Anna Nicole, “a pretty, but plain girl growing up in small town Texas” who “transformed herself though sheer willpower” into a sort of celebrity; Marshall, an 80-something magnate with a “pointlessness” replacing “the glint that used to be in his eyes”; Smith’s confidante Howard K. Stern, a “lawyer-guy-friend-weirdo”; and a few other characters, including Smith’s beloved son Daniel and her mother Virgie.

This all seems par for the course: If Prince William and Kate Middleton’s romance can inspire dueling TV movies, why shouldn’t Lifetime produce another version of the Anna Nicole story? Still, when I saw the news about the upcoming flick, I had only one question: Why?

Mariah Carey gets the Nicki Minaj phone call: A very special 'American Idol' dramatization

Rumor has it that new American Idol judge Mariah Carey became infuriated and hung up the phone when producers called to tell her they were in talks with Nicki Minaj to join the season 12 judging panel. Considering a TMZ report is practically fiction, I thought I’d embellish this juicy, totally plausible storyline in the saga of No One Knows WTF Is Going On With Idol (And Do They Care?). It’s one of the summer’s most lukewarm reads!

Thanks to the video for Mimi and Nicki’s classic 2010 collaboration “Up Out My Face,” here’s how I picture this all going down…. READ FULL STORY »

Kirk Cameron defends Rep. Akin after 'legitimate rape' comments: 'I respect him...he's in a tough spot' -- VIDEO

Oh, Mike Seaver.

After GOP Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin’s controversial remarks on a local network yesterday — claiming that women were unlikely to get pregnant from rape because “if it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down” — many national Republican leaders, including Gov. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, distanced themselves from Akin.

One defender? Kirk Cameron. The child-star-turned-evangelist was on CNN this morning discussing the remarks, and Cameron encouraged people to watch the whole video (which you can here) and then said, “[Akin] is clearly a pro-life advocate and I respect him. He said that he misspoke and that he misphrased something and that he apologized.” READ FULL STORY »

'Gallery Girls' on Bravo: What is your damage?!

I’ve found my new favorite show to hate-watch (well, I love it but you will definitely maybe hate it): Gallery Girls on Bravo. This grotesque reality TV canvas is like a post-surrealist hybrid of The Hills and Girls — priced at $0 for all you art collectors! — that should probably just be called Bitches. It stars six young snots and one hardworking woman from Long Island who live and “work” in NYC and Brooklyn, which the show treats like a separate country.

Have I lost you yet, or do the two melting clocks in the desert (pictured) have you intrigued? READ FULL STORY »

Kristen Stewart scandal: Shirt bullies actress -- don't buy it

Kristen-Stewart.jpg

If you’re reading PopWatch, you know that Kristen Stewart was recently caught in some compromising photos with her married Snow White director Rupert Sanders. There was the public apology, the fan response and backlash, the Jodie Foster defense against the Stewart backlash, and then—for some—the eager anticipation of watching Robert Pattinson professionally go on a press tour and not really say anything.

Since the public fascination doesn’t look to be dying down anytime soon, online retailer Skreened  saw a publicity moment, and is now offering a T-shirt that reads, “Kristen Stewart is a Trampire.” To round out the unofficial “We Hate Kristen” collection, there’s also “Kristen Stewart F***ing Sucks” and “F*** Kristen Stewart,” which is, of course, reminiscent of the Team Aniston and Team Jolie shirts that made a pop culture splash in 2005 — with one huge difference.

While the Team Aniston/Jolie shirts were pretty dumb, they weren’t personally bullying anyone. You were just weighing in on the tabloid frenzy of the moment. “F*** Kristen Stewart” sure has a different –and crueler — ring to it. In a culture that is now hyper-aware of the effects of bullying, it seems really wrong to torment a 22-year-old, regardless of her fame level or any mistakes she may have made.
