What can’t the great Melissa McCarthy do? The 43-year-old actress—whose style of go-for-broke physical comedy is at once wild and grounded, brash and vulnerable—opens movies. She gets awards love. She stars in her own material: the road-trip comedy Tammy (in theaters July 2), which she co-wrote with her husband, first-time director Ben Falcone. She can do everything…except escape stupid. At Goop, Gwyneth Paltrow’s lifestyle blog-inspired pop-up shop currently open in Los Angeles’ Brentwood Country Mart, you can buy a custom (for Goop, not for you) $620 knit heather-grey Stella McCartney jumpsuit, $650 vintage “found” serving spoons, a set of four cocktail napkins for $125 (with optional monogram), a $2,350 vintage Christian Dior Backgammon set, and a book called Within: A Spiritual Awakening to Love & Weight Loss.
The jeans are skinny, the tops are billowy, the fabrics are naaaahtural, and the price tags are hidden. One of those “if you have to look, you can’t afford it” things, no doubt. There was a pile of unassuming beaded bracelets on the desk in the front of the store, pointedly outside the artfully displayed glass class holding the more precious jewels. They looked like the kind of things you might find in a Bangkok street market. At Goop? They ranged in price from “5 to 7….hundred dollars,” according to the delicate sales girl.
Is it silly? Yes. Tasteful? Painfully so. Pretty? If beige tones are your thing, probably. Excessive? For most tax brackets, uh, yes.
But should we be aghast that it exists? Please. READ FULL STORY
An unscientific sampling of Twitter comments has led EW’s Fashion Elves to conclude that the following dresses from the Fash-indig known as the Met Gala have caused a divide among the masses. And if these differences of opinion are not resolved, we’re pretty sure lives will be lost, families will be split up, and the country will crumble. Well, all that OR life will go on as normal. But why risk it?
Help settle the debate by voting on six of the most polarizing dresses in our polls below. READ FULL STORY
And now for a story in which there are no winners.
When James Franco went on Howard Stern’s radio show Wednesday, Stern asked him whether he ever had sex with Lindsay Lohan. (After all, Franco’s name did appear on Lohan’s alleged “sex list.”) First of all: Gross. To everything about this. But! According to Franco, who sounded pretty upset to even discuss this, the two made out but never actually slept together.
Did the conversation end there? It most certainly did not. “I don’t know what to say,” Franco said. “We were at this hotel during a very dark period of her history. It seemed pretty damn clear that she liked me. …I’d come home late to the hotel and she’d come find me. I knew which room she was in and I’d see through the window like, ‘Oh there’s another party over at Lindsay’s,’ …and she would come out to the pool area and find me. It’s in the poem: she even broke into my room one time because she was so at home there, I guess they just gave her the key. And so 3 in the morning, I was sleeping on the couch, and I open my eyes, and there’s Lindsay in my room at 3 am. And it’s like, okay, what do I do now. [laughs]…I tell about this in the poem. It sounds so nerdy…. I read her a story….I will swear on my mother’s life I didn’t have sex with her.” READ FULL STORY
Are you off the Frozen train? It’s okay if you are. Most people seem to be, in fact, except…they’re not. The soundtrack for the wildly popular November movie just hit its biggest sales week yet, which means that, hard as we try, we haven’t escaped the winter just yet.
There’s still plenty of hilarious pop culture to be mined from the biggest event to happen to Disney animated movies since that thing with Bambi’s mom. Don’t worry—you’ll find no “Let It Go” covers here. But if you think you’ve seen everything to do with Frozen, I submit to you something completely different: READ FULL STORY
So here’s the situation: On Monday, word broke that Kate Mulgrew — best known these days for playing Red on Orange Is the New Black – is the narrator of an upcoming documentary called The Principle. Spoiler alert: The principle is that contrary to Copernicus and, you know, centuries of documented science, the sun revolves around the Earth.
This is notable for several reasons, including but not limited to these:
[Serious spoiler alert if you haven't seen Monday's How I Met Your Mother]
Monday on How I Met Your Mother, fans were brought 10 years into the future, where Ted and the Mother were recounting old stories. Ted revealed that Robin’s mom came to her wedding after all, which was a surprise to the whole gang. The Mother countered that this wasn’t really a surprise: “What mother is going to miss her daughter’s wedding?” Cue Ted tears.
As my colleague Sandra Gonzalez noted in her recap, the scene seemed to imply that the Mother dies in the future — and that’s why Ted started telling his kids this whole nine-year-long story in the first place. This theory isn’t exactly new; it’s been floating around fan pages online for years. (In many of the predictions, Ted then gets together with Robin.) But, to me at least, it always seemed unlikely. Well, not anymore! READ FULL STORY
Thursday night’s Big Bang Theory was positively loco
(motive) but there’s no way to explain why without a little set up. So, here it goes:
In this Valentine’s Day-themed episode, what was supposed to be a romantic evening turned out to be a rough one for all three of the show’s major couples — Leonard/Penny, Sheldon/Amy, and Howard/Bernadette. At home, Leonard and Penny found themselves dealing with a Yorkie with a belly full of chocolate while Bernadette and Howard had to deal with a tense situation involving Sheldon and Amy.
You see, Amy planned a weekend getaway for her, Sheldon, Howard and Bernadette, and the way she convinced Sheldon to take part was by promising him a romantic dinner on a vintage locomotive. Once at dinner, however, Amy became upset when Sheldon befriended a fellow train enthusiast and paid more attention to his new (totally weird) friend than her. When she pulled him aside to give him a piece of her mind, a big fight erupted and Sheldon acted out — with unexpected consequences. Transcript and video below: READ FULL STORY
