2013 Teen Choice Awards: Miley Cyrus, 'Glee,' 'Twilight' win big

At the 2013 Teen Choice Awards on Sunday night, the teens clearly played favorites, with a handful of shows and movies (The Vampire Diaries, Pitch Perfect, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2) and artists (Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus) nabbing the bulk of the prizes.

There were a lot of emotional speeches in the mix, too, from Ashton Kutcher’s commencement-worthy acceptance of the Ultimate Choice Award to Lea Michele’s tearful tribute to late Glee co-star and real-life boyfriend Cory Monteith.

Character Rehab: How to fix Hayley on 'The Originals'

Here at EW, we’re starting a new weekly series in which we — and readers — weigh in on ways to rehab much-maligned characters on some of our favorite shows.

There are characters that you love to hate, and then there are characters that you simply despise. Werewolf Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) fell in to the latter category on The Vampire Diaries, which is why some fans weren’t exactly thrilled to hear she’ll be a regular sight on the upcoming spinoff, The Originals. This is a young woman whose mission on TVD was to set 12 werewolf-vampire hybrids up for slaughter by Klaus (Joseph Morgan) — to get a step closer to finding the family she’s never known. She later had hate-sex with Klaus, another lost, lonely soul, and, we learned in an episode last April, is now carrying Klaus’ child. (He was born a werewolf before magic made him a vampire, so he’s “nature’s loophole”). The Originals, which debuts on The CW this fall, will be “as much about Hayley’s redemption as anyone else’s,” according to exec producer Julie Plec. So let’s accept that we’re not getting a break from Hayley anytime soon, and pitch ways for the writers to take advantage of this chance to reintroduce her and make her tolerable. I’ll go first: READ FULL STORY

In case your photo-filled Facebook feed hasn’t already informed: it’s graduation season. And The Vampire Diaries has taken note.

In fact, the show released a congratulations of sorts on Monday for all its young fans.

It’s cheeky, gory, and makes me miss the show just a little more than I already do…(Hiatus blues, anyone?)

Pass the doughnuts: Which TV show has the worst cops?

Small towns are so much more interesting on television. Their quirks are quirkier, their drama is more dramatic and their faults somehow make them more endearing. But there’s another feature we’ve spotted in the hit small town dramas we’re currently obsessed with: The cops in these series aren’t all that skilled at, well, being cops.

Case in point: Bates Motel. Sure, the cops of White Pine Bay, Ore. are corrupt, but they also don’t even seem to know how to work a crime scene. The first thing that the Sheriff did upon arriving at a murder scene in this Monday’s episode was touch the murder weapon and then the dead body … with his bare hands. Surely even small town peacekeepers know about latex gloves, right? Assuming they have cable, I’m betting they’ve at least seen Law & Order: SVU and could have learned a thing or two about contaminating a crime scene.
