Dayton news station apologizes to Julie Chen

Leaders at Dayton, Ohio news station WDTN have apologized after Julie Chen’s comments on The Talk last week. Chen had shared she had plastic surgery when she was 25 following her then-boss’ comments.

“We are sorry to hear about what happened to CBS’ Julie Chen in 1995 when she was a reporter at WDTN-TV,” Joe Abouzeid, WDTN and WBDT president and general manager said in a statement to the Dayton Daily News. “The station was under different management and ownership during that time. At WDTN and WBDT, we don’t tolerate racism or discrimination of any kind.” READ FULL STORY

Sara Gilbert: Dating Johnny Galecki made me realize I was gay -- VIDEO

Roseanne debuted 25 long years ago — but even now, tales of its explosive backstage drama are still circulating. And on yesterday’s edition of The Talk, one of the sitcom’s stars revealed that she underwent her own share of personal turmoil on set — while dating her onscreen love interest, no less.

Long before creating The Talk for CBS, actress Sara Gilbert got her start playing Roseanne‘s sarcastic Darlene Connor. In the sitcom’s fourth season, her character started dating David Healy, played by future Big Bang Theory star Johnny Galecki — and soon enough, Gilbert and Galecki were a real-life item as well. “I thought he was super cute and I had a total crush on him,” Gilbert said yesterday on The Talk. (It’s currently the show’s “secrets week.”) “And we started dating and he would come over and we would, like, make out. And then I would start to get depressed.”

Why? Because Gilbert was slowly realizing that she was actually a lesbian — and to Galecki’s credit, she says, he was extremely understanding when she broke the news. “[I] eventually told him I thought it was about my sexuality, and he was super sweet about it,” she said. Though Gilbert eventually began dating a woman, she remained in the closet “for years” — and Galecki continued to keep her secret. “I always felt so scared,” she recalled. “If it came out, what could happen? Could I lose my career? Will I ever be able to play a straight role again?”

Julie Chen opens up about having plastic surgery on her eyes -- VIDEO

It’s secret week on The Talk, and each day, one of the ladies on the panel is opening up about a deep secret. On Monday, Sharon Osbourne shared that in her 20s, she had a fling with Jay Leno (!). Today, the topic got more serious for Julie Chen.

In a nearly 10-minute segment, Chen spoke movingly about her decision to, when she was 25 and a reporter for a local station in Ohio, get eye surgery. Her then-boss told her she’d never be an anchor with her eyes. “He said, ‘Let’s face it, Julie, how relatable are you to our community?'” Chen relayed. “How big of an Asian community do we really have in Dayton? … On top of that, because of your heritage, because of your Asian eyes, I’ve noticed that when you’re on camera, when you’re interviewing someone, you look disinterested and bored because your eyes are so heavy, they are so small.'”

She talks about how devastated she was, and, after getting similar feedback from some agents, decided to go ahead and have the surgery. Shortly after doing so, her career took off. “Now, it’s like I sometimes wonder. But I will say after I had that done, everything kind of, the ball did roll for me. I struggle with, ‘Wow. Did I give in to the man in doing this?'”

Sharon Osbourne sets the record straight about Ozzy: 'We're not getting divorced' -- VIDEO

Sharon Osbourne used her spot as a cohost on The Talk today to speak out about her husband Ozzy Osbourne’s addiction issues and the rumors that the longtime couple are on the verge of divorce.

“Everything that was printed in the tabloids has been distorted. There’s always a little seed of truth to everything that gets reported, but then it gets very distorted,” Osbourne said. “We’re dealing with it. We’re not getting divorced. However, am I happy? No. Am I upset? Yes, I am. I’m devastated right now.”

Osbourne went on to admit that while she knew Ozzy had been drinking again, she did not know the extent of it or that he’d also been using prescription drugs.

“It’s a disease that not only hurts the person that has the disease but it hurts the family. It hurts people that love you and we’re dealing with it,” she continued. “We’ve dealt with worse and we will deal with it and this too shall pass. Otherwise my husband will be taken to the hospital to get my foot removed from his ass.”

Check out her entire statement from this morning’s The Talk below.

When Carrie Fisher popped up on CBS’ daytime coffee klatch The Talk on Tuesday, co-host Aisha Tyler could not help but ask about her feelings about the revival of Star Wars — and taking on the role that has defined her life one more time.

“I like to think of it as ‘old Leia,’ like, sway-backed old Leia the horse,” Fisher quipped. “I like the idea of being Mrs. Solo, and we’ve just fought and fought and I killed him.”

Check out their full interview below, along with how Fisher’s mother Debbie Reynolds made clear her recent hospitalization wasn’t going to slow her down:  READ FULL STORY

Sharon Osbourne attacks Simon Cowell on 'The Talk' -- VIDEO

Sharon Osbourne had some choice words for Simon Cowell on the April 17th episode of The Talk. Addressing reports that a new biography about Cowell says Osbourne left her position as mentor on the U.K. edition of The X Factor because she was angry over Cowell’s relationship with fellow judge Dannii Minogue, Osbourne snapped, “I’m, like, pissed off because you’ve got a whole career to talk about. … Why bring Mrs. O into your messing around?”

Though she admitted she did not like Minogue, Osbourne insisted Cowell’s romantic entanglements had no bearing on her decision to quit The X Factor. She also put forward a couple of theories about the misinformation. First, she said Cowell “likes to glamorize, he likes the publicity, he likes the attention.” She noted, “The thing is, nobody leaves Simon — he fires you.” Then Osbourne, who currently judges on the Cowell-produced America’s Got Talent, laughed, “He’ll probably fire me now.”

As for her final theory about Cowell (whose reps offered no comment)… well, you’ll have to watch the clip for that. Hint: It involves the indictment, “He has everything — but you can’t buy the goods!” Find out what those “goods” are below. READ FULL STORY
