Josh Hutcherson's ‘Hunger Games’ prank makes Jennifer Lawrence pee her pants, Capitol not pleased

At this point, we’ll take just about any Hunger Games news we can get, right?

In an interview with Vulture, Josh Hutcherson revealed that he pranked costar Jennifer Lawrence on the set of The Hunger Games – perhaps to an unfortunate degree. “I took a dummy, one that the tracker-jackers were supposed to have attacked, and I put it in Jennifer’s bathroom,” said Hutcherson, 19. “When she opened the door, she peed her pants. Or so I was told – she told me later. I did not get visual confirmation on that one.” READ FULL STORY »

'Lana Del Rey's Hunger Games': Amazing. -- VIDEO

Does this image just piss you off so much??? (I felt dirty making it, but the “crowd reacting to subject in horror” motif just worked so well.) Then maybe you don’t want to watch a double parody of The Hunger Games and Lana Del Rey’s “Video Games” as performed by Second City comedian Holly Laurent. But you should anyway, because it’s hilarious. READ FULL STORY »

Vanity Fair's 2012 Hollywood cover revealed: Katniss and Lisbeth go glam as issue draws criticism

Katniss’ prep team is going to have a lot to live up to after this. The Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence, embodying an old-school Hollywood look, is just one of the 11 actresses to go very va-va-voom for Vanity Fair (alliteration is fun!) and its 2012 Hollywood issue. Also gracing the cover alongside Lawrence is Albert Nobbs actress Mia Wasikowska making her second appearance, the ubiquitous and unreasonably beautiful Best Supporting Actress nominee Jessica Chastain, and Best Actress nominee Rooney Mara, who undergoes quite the transformation from the sexy-grungy Girl With the Dragon Tattoo to a nearly unrecognizable hybrid of Isabella Rossellini and Judy Davis’ character in The Break-Up.

'Hunger Games' Capitol Couture: Effie up your inbox with style tips straight from Panem!

CAPITAL-COUTURE

In their ongoing attempt to dominate all 24 hours of my day, producers of The Hunger Games have jumped on the interest in Katniss Everdeen’s fiery frock and taken it to the next level, launching a new Capitol Couture website (password: #lookyourbest). Like the cuisine of the Hunger Games, style within the book is in a world of its own, as witnessed by the Chinoiserie floral satin ensemble Elizabeth Banks’s Effie Trinket is rocking on the website’s current home page.

For now, the site is as naked as Katniss the first time she met Cinna, only telling visitors, “Whether you’re a Capitol fashionista or a style-crazed District citizen, there’s only one place to turn for all the tips, tricks and trends you need to look your best” above the field where fans sign up for a newsletter. This blank slate of a site offers sky-high possibilities for imagining what’s to come, and that’s exactly where the fun begins! READ FULL STORY »

Kristen Bell has a 'Hunger Games' birthday. Let's plan a 'Hunger Games' party together

Illustrated-Movie-Companion_320.jpg

You’ve watched the trailer, reread the books, and talked about whether you were pulling for Peeta or Gale.

But it’s not just you and all your friends who are counting down the days until The Hunger Games hits theaters. (78!) Celebs are getting in on the Tribute fun as well.

Kristen Bell, star of the upcoming House of Lies, tells The Huffington Post,

“My 30th birthday I themed after The Hunger Games and I put District numbers up around. I put District 4 for water over the pool. I put District 2 for electronics over the stereo and iPod. I had a blow-up castle bouncy house on the front lawn and I put The Capitol over the bouncy house. And over my front door, I put District 12. All my friends dressed as the characters and I dressed as Katniss. I was head-to-toe in spandex with a fire cape and carried a bow and arrow.”

First of all: Awesome. Bell sounds like my kind of party host. She also touches on friends who “came as Cato and Clove and were dressed in weird sewn-together fabric leaves and army colors.” Bell’s friends deserve a shout-out for their commitment. Obsessions with the Games or other popular franchises are all the more fun when you have people to go all-in with you. No one wants to be the only one who has drawn a Death Eater tattoo on their arm (Just me?) or bought the replica of Bella’s engagement ring.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, PopWatchers, is to help me put together a 2011 pop-culture time capsule. It’s been a year of change that swept from the lowest brow (Two and a Half Men) to the highest (the Arab Spring). We saw many great people pass on and many more step into the spotlight. With all this in mind, what cultural relics would you pick to communicate this strange and marvelous year to the future? Check out my picks, then add your own ideas to the mix. READ FULL STORY »

Is 2012 going to be the Year of the Dude Movie?

breaking-dawn-greene-reed

According to the results of a poll just released by Fandango, the most anticipated blockbuster for women in 2012 is The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn; Part 2. I would imagine that the first instinct of many moviegoers, upon hearing that information, is a forehead-slap followed by a long groan. But when you look at the list of big movies next year, it’s hard to blame the female population for returning to the glowy-skinned arms of the Twilight franchise. The Hollywood blockbuster season is always male-dominated, but it’s striking just how many dude-centric movies dominate the schedule next year. READ FULL STORY »

Fashion designers sketch out their own version of the 'Hunger Games' Girl on Fire dress

For me, there’s one main question hovering over the upcoming movie adaptation of The Hunger Games: What are they going to do with the “Girl on Fire” dress? That’s the outfit that Katniss Everdeen famously wears during her big public debut, which her fashion guru Cinna somehow designs (using an intriguing array of futuristic technology) to actually make it appear as if Katniss is literally on fire. It’s a potent metaphor. It also strikes me as an especially difficult visual to pull off. We still don’t know what the official dress will look like — although the Games trailer seemed to feature an extremely brief shot of part of the dress — but InStyle has gotten together a gang of fashion designers to each create their version of the Girl on Fire. The people involved include Christian Siriano, Tommy Hilfiger, Rachel Roy, and Charlotte Ronson: You can check out the sketches here. READ FULL STORY »

Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Chris O' Dowd make BAFTA's longlist for Rising Star Award, but who should win? VOTE

Jennifer-Lawrence

While it won’t be quite as intense as what Katniss Everdeen will endure to outlast her competitors in Hunger Games, actress Jennifer Lawrence will have to fight to make it to the final list of nominees for BAFTA’s 2012 Orange Rising Star Award. (That said, awards shows would be a lot more interesting if actors and actresses had to battle, Hunger Games-style, to remain nominees, let alone winners.)

But will the odds be ever in Lawrence’s favor? Granted, the 21-year-old is already an Oscar-nominee and snagged the coveted role of the aforementioned Katniss, but the long list for BAFTA’s 2012 Orange Rising Star Award includes the equally impressive likes of ubiquitous Tree of Life star Jessica Chastain, Sundance darling Felicity Jones of Like Crazy, and Bridesmaids heartthrob Chris O’Dowd, who pulled off the unlikely feat of winning the girl in a movie co-starring Jon Hamm.
