Talk about a tough crowd. When comedians took the stage at the second annual Comedy Awards, a swanky trophy-fest that taped on April 28 in New York City and will air this Sunday at 9 p.m. on Comedy Central, they had to stare down comedic powerhouses like Chris Rock, Jon Stewart, Joel McHale, and Kristen Wiig — and try to crack them up.
“So, they televise this, and they don’t do the Nobel Peace Prize?” joked Rock at the show’s opening, earning big laughs from the crowd. Other chuckle-inducing presenters included the cast of Happy Endings (one of whom ate a very hot pepper), Tracy Morgan (who vowed to quit comedy and join the Secret Service), and Parks and Recreation‘s Adam Scott (who got unintentionally — but hilariously — ignored by Bridesmaids director Paul Feig).
The night built up to two big awards. Robin Williams took home the Standup Icon Award and compared his silver microphone trophy to “platinum Ambien.” And later, the usually acerbic legend Don Rickles’ tearfully accepted the Johnny Carson Award.
