Penn Badgley disses 'Gossip Girl': Et tu, Lonely Boy?

Spotted: A floppy-haired actor biting the glamorous hand that fed him.

Penn Badgley always seemed like the most intellectual member of Gossip Girl‘s cast — perhaps because of his preternaturally deep voice, or the way he held up a “Bring Back the Glass-Steagall Act” sign at Occupy Wall Street in the fall of 2011, or because his chief competitors for that title are people like Chase Crawford and Taylor Momsen. And given this, it’s not totally surprising that Badgley secretly felt like a show that hinged on faked deaths and dowries — dowries! In the year 2012! — was sort of beneath him.

It is, however, a little surprising that Badgley would be so frank about those feelings when talking to a reporter.  READ FULL STORY

Nicki Minaj's 'Idol' eye rolls are really irritating

Nicki Minaj eye roll 'American Idol'

Perhaps threatened by the high-impact stage presence of Mariah Carey’s boobs, Nicki Minaj has begun to fancy her constant side-eyes as two more main characters on American Idol (read EW’s full recap here). Can she please cut it out and cede the spotlight to the real stars of the show — Keith Urban’s highlights? So rude! Oh, or the contestants. That’s right.

See this devastating performance in action below…. READ FULL STORY

'The X Factor' finale: Does anyone even care?

The judges certainly don’t! Their collective uttah indifference throughout season 2 — save for the occasional scripted standing O, shown above — has made it damn near impossible for me to feel that strongly about which of three talented but not awe-inspiring contestants should win. I tried to give The X Factor the benefit of the doubt this season. But if the judges can’t even remember these people’s names, why should viewers? READ FULL STORY

Stevie Nicks has harsh words for Nicki Minaj, apologizes for her remarks

Think Stevie Nicks is as gentle and soft as one of her ethereal shawls? Think again. Fleetwood Mac’s ex-frontwoman is rock royalty — and she’s not afraid to lay a verbal smackdown on someone who hasn’t paid her dues. Update: Nicks has apologized for the remarks she made about Minaj — see her full statement below.

Nicks had some choice words for Nicki Minaj after hearing about the rapper’s fight with Mariah Carey on the set of American Idol. “How dare this little girl!” she told The Daily – Minaj is in her late 20s; Nicks is 64 — adding, “If I had been Mariah, I would have walked over to Nicki and strangled her to death right there.” READ FULL STORY

Dionne a Democrat? As if! 'Clueless' actress Stacey Dash takes heat for endorsing Romney

Democrats outnumber Republicans in California’s 30th congressional district — which represents rich L.A. suburbs like Santa Monica, Malibu, and Beverly Hills — 48 percent to 26 percent, according to the Los Angeles Times. But there’s one high-profile resident of the Fightin’ 30th who isn’t afraid to voice her support for Mitt Romney: Dionne Davenport, fashionista and graduate of Beverly Hills’ Bronson Alcott High School. Or, at least, Stacey Dash, the actress who played Dee in the big screen and TV versions of Clueless.

Fresh off the pages of EW’s Reunions Issue, Dash made waves yesterday when she tweeted a Romney endorsement. “Vote for Romney,” she wrote, calling the candidate “The only choice for your future.” Dash included a photo of herself posing against a giant American Flag backdrop at the end of her message.

The reaction on Twitter was swift and snarky.  READ FULL STORY

Mariah Carey gets the Nicki Minaj phone call: A very special 'American Idol' dramatization

Rumor has it that new American Idol judge Mariah Carey became infuriated and hung up the phone when producers called to tell her they were in talks with Nicki Minaj to join the season 12 judging panel. Considering a TMZ report is practically fiction, I thought I’d embellish this juicy, totally plausible storyline in the saga of No One Knows WTF Is Going On With Idol (And Do They Care?). It’s one of the summer’s most lukewarm reads!

Thanks to the video for Mimi and Nicki’s classic 2010 collaboration “Up Out My Face,” here’s how I picture this all going down…. READ FULL STORY

What is your damage, London Olympics? (Vol. 3)

Welcome to ‘What Is Your Damage,’ Annie Barrett’s summer shop of all the melodrama and self-absorption she misses from springtime reality TV. Every Tuesday and Friday, she’ll rant about a current offense to her humanity, then assess readers’ damages via video replies. Don’t be shy about admitting what annoys or intrigues you. We’re all in this pop cult together!

What’s your damage, Olympics? Last Tuesday, I railed against poolside interviewer Andrea Kremer among other Olympics offenders like Ryan Seacrest. Friday’s Volume 2 brought spitting in the pool, a lucky towel, and a very special wedgie. But most damaging right now? NBC interrupting — and cutting a significant chunk from! — a primetime SPORTING event in order to air another “What is….London?” Mary Carillo segment. Brutal! READ FULL STORY

What is your damage, creepy boat scene from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory?

Now that it’s officially summer, I thought this would be the perfect time to examine how my obsession with a boat ride from hell has chartered my own slow but sure descent into madness.

This s— gets dark. Read on at your own risk.

'The Choice' premiere: Cat Deeley gasps for air in a sea of trashy plastic dummies

She might have thought twice about wearing red leather pants while swimming.

First of all, the hideous dancing silhouettes have got to go. They don’t even match up to the women behind the doors! Get rid of them! (They were admittedly funny the first five times.)

Welcome to The Choice, Fox’s new six-part dating series that rhymes with The Voice and incorporates the same four “blind audition” chairs as the NBC show. The similarities end there. Here, four “celebrities” — this week: rapper Romeo, moguls skier Jeremy Bloom, soap star Jason Cook, and “household name” DJ Pauly D of Jersey Shore — must listen to women brag about themselves for 30 seconds and then “pull their love handles” if they think she seems hot and desperate-to-cook-them-dinner enough based on voice alone.
