Happy Valentine’s Day! Who’s your fictional valentine this year?

Happy Valentine’s Day, PopWatchers!

In honor of the day of love (or a manufactured holiday of corporate greed) I got to thinking about fictional characters I’m in love with. Ask any of my friends, and they’ll tell you the list is pretty long. I can’t help it! Whether I’m swooning over The OC reruns and wondering where Seth Cohen was for me in high school, or contemplating whether I’d be willing to live in the 1920s if it meant Matthew Crawley could be my boyfriend (yes), if there’s a charming guy on television, I’ve probably wanted to to marry him at some point. Danny from The Mindy Project? Been there. Jim Halpert? Welcome to my 2005. This Valentine’s Day, I’m choosing not to narrow it down any further when it comes to fictional boyfriends. It’s a four-way tie! This (fake) holiday is the best.

Check out some staffers’ picks for their fictional valentines below, and then be sure to tell us what character you’re secretly hoping to have some chocolates delivered from today. READ FULL STORY »

'Warm Bodies': Which supernatural is right for you?

WARM-BODIES

It’s time for Mystery Date: Supernatural Edition! While the whole vampire craze may be drawing to a close (Twilight: Breaking Dawn — Part 2 comes out on DVD March 2) 2013 is still on track to be a huge year for those that love the supernatural. Apologies to viewers who enjoy their zombies more in the style of Walking Dead, but it’s looking like the biggest trend is more romance, less death and destruction. Warm Bodies, in theaters today, centers around a love story between zombie R. and a human, Julie. It’s a great read – and surprisingly, in between the killing and the brain eating, a wonderfully original and charming boy-ish meets girl tale.

Which got us thinking: Readers probably have their personal favorites when it comes to the guys that portray these vampires, zombies, and werewolves (Ian Somerhalder, Robert Pattinson, Alexander Skarsgard, etc.) But what if we took the actors out of it? Based solely on the plotlines in the current books/movies/television shows, which supernatural should you, a “normal” human with a slight love on danger, attempt to begin a relationship with? The answer may surprise you – or help you justify a couple all-too-real conversations about an alleged hypothetical situation (ahem).

'Teen Wolf': Colton Haynes to exit?

The rumor mill continues to churn upon reports that Teen Wolf actor Colton Haynes, who plays Jackson on the MTV drama, is exiting the show after contract negotiations fell apart.

For its part, the network denies all reports, telling EW, that there is “absolutely no truth that Colton is being pushed out or that he, or any cast member, is being replaced. We love Colton and look forward to his returning with the entire cast for season 3 of Teen Wolf.”

Adding fuel to the fire is Haynes himself, who tweeted a suspiciously-timed, out-of-context statement. READ FULL STORY »

'Teen Wolf' season finale recap: A breakup and a shakeup

TEEN-WOLF-CAST

In the last minutes of the Teen Wolf season finale, when everyone was standing around in a slack-jawed in the warehouse watching the scene before them unfold (I’ll get to why in a second…), I was pretty much in the same state. In its second season, this show has really learned how to deliver a climax, and that was true more than ever in last night’s finale. [Spoiler alert!]

I had fully expected this season closer to be bold: Jackson would die because there’s no redeeming the character, I thought. Maybe an adult would die, too. Just for kicks. But it seemed too easy to put Jackson in a bodybag at the beginning of the finale. It simply wasn’t the kind of flashy death I imagined — and I was right. The flashy death would come later (with a twist). READ FULL STORY »

All of those crazy kids’ favorite vamps, wolves, “unique” hairstyles, a bunch of promos for Fox’s fall TV lineup, and scores of unwanted brightly hued surfboards came out to party at last night’s 2012 Teen Choice Awards.

The X Factor‘s Demi Lovato and Glee‘s Kevin McHale co-hosted. Flo Rida, Justin Bieber, and Carly Rae Jepsen performed, and — get this — No Doubt sang live. Hey, it is the ’90s!

The full list of TCA winners is on page 3 of this post; my own personal winners of Fox’s two-hour telecast are below. By all means, list your own in the comments.

PopWatch Reality Check: The ol' eyelash on the cheek bit

As someone who’s slipped on a banana peel — twice — I should believe in the impossible, but I’ve got to ask: Has that “You have an eyelash on your cheek, let me get it for you so I can touch your face and stare into your eyes so the audience knows we’re having a moment” bit ever happened to you in real life? It seems to be the new “Let me brush this hair out of your eyes, even though it wasn’t bothering you.” Scott (Tyler Posey) did it to Allison (Crystal Reed) on last night’s series premiere of MTV’s Teen Wolf (pictured). I recall Ben (Adam Scott) doing it to Leslie (Amy Poehler) during their recent road trip on Parks and Recreation (though the joke was that Leslie wanted to avoid that kind of intimacy: “Get away from me… I’m sorry… I’m allergic to fingers”).

I’ve found one colleague who’s had this happen to her, but she admits, “I thought he was lying because it was so corny.” Anyone else? And do guys actually fake it? Smooth. READ FULL STORY »

MTV's 'Teen Wolf' may make you feel old, but not for the reason you'd think

Yes, MTV’s Teen Wolf, which premieres Sunday at 11 p.m. ET after the MTV Movie Awards, is a reboot of the film that hit theaters in 1985. But here’s what will really make you feel old — the lead actor, Tyler Posey, played Jennifer Lopez’s adorable son in the 2002 movie Maid in Manhattan. Should find myself starting to enjoy the shirtless shots of him, I’ll remind myself of that. Hopefully his slightly older werewolf mentor (Tyler Hoechlin) will also vie for my attention.

MTV has posted the first eight minutes of the premiere, which are, frankly, kinda boring. But it ends with him getting bitten, which is no doubt where the fun starts, as seen in the series’ promising trailer.
