Spike's Guys Choice Awards winners: Guy of the Year, Most Manticipated Movie and more

The seventh annual Spike TV Guys Choice Awards were both a celebration of all things manly and an irreverent wink toward the silliness of such a singular celebration. The trophy is a “Mantler,” there’s an award for Most Dangerous Man, and prizes are handed out to fictional characters as readily as they are to real people. What other awards show would honor daredevil Felix Baumgartner in the same breath as The Walking Dead‘s Dixon brothers? They know their audience.

Taped in Los Angeles on Saturday night, the Guys Choice Awards aired Wednesday night on Spike TV, where Clint Eastwood presented Ben Affleck with the Guy of the Year award, and Burt Reynolds and Mark Wahlberg re-enacted a scene from Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1997 cult classic Boogie Nights.

Seth MacFarlane hosts tonight's 'Saturday Night Live' premiere: Talk about it here!

In the midst of all the excitement about Jason Sudeikis not leaving the show and Jay Pharaoh taking over Obama-playing duties, we almost forgot one crucial component of tonight’s Saturday Night Live premiere: Seth MacFarlane is hosting. And that fact inspires some mixed feelings.

MacFarlane and EW have had their differences in the past. TV critic Ken Tucker was famously harsh on Family Guy when it premiered; the show retaliated with a bit in which Peter Griffin, having discovered he was out of toilet paper, wiped his butt with a copy of our magazine instead. But we’ve also openly admired MacFarlane’s work, or at least his work ethic: In 2008, EW named Fox’s animation king the smartest person in TV. Whether you love his creations or hate them — and, generally speaking, there are few people who fall into neither category — you have to admit that the guy is a pretty fascinating figure.  READ FULL STORY

'Flash Gordon' star Sam Jones is now a bodyguard in Mexico? The actor explains his career change

One of the most memorable scenes in Seth MacFarlane’s talking teddy bear movie, Ted (out June 27), involves an out-of-control house party, an irate neighbor, and — surprisingly enough — a lot of wacky hijinks with Flash Gordon star Sam Jones. The actor has made some 45 films, but that Queen-soundtracked 1980 cult sci-fi flick didn’t exactly catapult him to superstardom, and his extended Ted cameo got us wondering what he’s been up to.

Quite a bit, it turns out. Jones is now mostly retired from acting, and these days the former Marine earns a living working in the personal security business, guarding high-level execs and other VIPs as they travel in high-risk areas. He works for a prominent security company that he’d prefer not to name, as well as running his own San Diego-based security business. “It’s primarily work in Mexico protecting dignitaries and executives from bad people wanting to do bad things to them,” he says. “And I love it. I absolutely love it.” Below, Jones fills us in on his weird career transformation.
