Catherine Hardwicke on leaving 'Twilight': 'I do not regret it at all, thank the Lord'

stewart-pattinsonDirector Catherine Hardwicke, who launched the Twilight series into theaters and has the similarly thematic Red Riding Hood coming out March 11, tells Newsweek that she wasn’t fired from the blockbuster series but simply decided against directing subsequent Twilight films. “I couldn’t even be fired, that’s what’s so funny,” she tells the magazine. “In my contract, I had the first right of refusal.” READ FULL STORY

Glamour-sexiest-men-pollImage Credit: Tina Gill/PR Photos; Charles Norfleet/PR PhotosGod bless the slow summer months. It gives everyone, not just EW.com, home of the Sexy Beasts Bracket Game, time to focus on the important things: Like hot men. Results are in for Glamour.com UK’s 50 Sexiest Men of 2010. Robert Pattinson topped the list, edging out fellow Twilight star Taylor Lautner and The Vampire Diaries‘ Ian Somerhalder. This seems to suggest Damon Salvatore making it to our Sexy Beasts final was not a fluke; find out next Thursday if he or Pattinson took the title. In the meantime, let’s take a closer look at Glamour’s list.  READ FULL STORY

'Eclipse' costume trivia: Deleted scene, karate pants, and more!

eclipse-fashionImage Credit: Summit EntertainmentYou can learn a lot about a character — and an actor — talking to a film’s costume designer. Here, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse‘s Tish Monaghan reveals a few secrets from the wardrobe closets:

• Robert Pattinson wanted to wear karate pants for the training sequence. “So we got him some karate pants, and it’s like the crotch hangs down to the knees, and I just thought, Ugh. Who’s gonna go for this? Because everything has to be approved by Summit,” Monaghan says. “We took them in a little bit, and they loved the karate pants. Who knew? I was so surprised.”

• Even at the film’s premiere, people squealed when Taylor Lautner turned around in that black T-shirt. “It was almost embarrassing. I felt so bad for him,” Monaghan says, with a laugh. “They were screaming and going ‘Wooooo!’” As she’d done on New Moon, her M.O. was to put him in smaller size Gap or Banana Republic T-shirts to emphasize his biceps, tightening the tees around the arm holes and taking them in down the side. (Pattinson wore Gap T-shirts, exclusively, she adds. “They were what fit him best. They had the best colors. So that’s what he ended up wearing, even when Edward takes Bella up to the tent. It may strike people as odd, but he doesn’t feel temperature, so that’s why we only put him in a shirt, and Bella’s all bundled up, and Jacob, of course, is running around shirtless.” READ FULL STORY

Taylor Lautner explains why fans faint to David Letterman

Taylor Lautner made his Late Show with David Letterman debut last night. Among the topics of conversation: Who would win in a one-on-one fight between a vampire and a werewolf (watch Letterman try to break it down in the clip below) and the different ways fans around the world show their undying devotion. “In Japan, they’re very sensitive. They cry a lot,” he began. He feels bad, so he’ll touch them with one hand and assure them they’ll be alright. “And then, they start crying more.” So he grabs their shoulders with two hands and says, seriously, it’s gonna be just fine. “And then they start bawling. And eventually…they just faint. And, problem solved.”

Subversive humor, Mr. Lautner. We like it! He also detailed the infamous hotel rush he and Kristen Stewart experienced in Brazil when fans found out what floor they were doing interviews on and tried to come up. Their security rushed in, locked the door, and said, “It’s okay, you know, remain calm. But we got 2,000 girls that just, you know, stormed the lobby. They got past hotel security, and right now, we’re calling the uh Brazilian National Guard.” When Letterman called it inexplicable, Lautner said, “It’s very special.” Again with the funny!

'Eclipse' audience reaction: Team Jacob seems to have gained momentum

jacob-black-eclipseEven at a 9:30 a.m. showing of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, there will be screaming. That, I can confirm. If my Manhattan theater, which was two-thirds full at that hour, is any indication, Team Jacob has definitely gained momentum. Here’s when the crowd got vocal. Let us know if you had a similar experience. SPOILER ALERT for those who haven’t seen the movie or read the books.

1. Jacob makes his entrance. Taylor Lautner, whom EW critic Owen Gleiberman described as “the young Matt Damon in the body of Marky Mark,” gets a classic turn-around shot. He’s wearing a shirt, and the ladies still went crazy. (To be fair, that T-shirt does fit him well.)

2. Jacob shows up shirtless at the Bella swap. Our first view of flesh. I’d argue this bit is more successful than the New Moon T-shirt removal after Bella’s motorcycle accident simply because this time, they did a better job of masking the fact that this Taylor Lautner Bicep Watch moment was presented solely for our benefit. Jacob wanted to annoy Edward with his hotness. I bought it. READ FULL STORY

'Eclipse' L.A. premiere: Rob, Kristen and Taylor hit the red carpet

pattinson-stewart-lautnerFans were waiting with bated breath — some since Monday at 6 a.m. — for the big L.A. premiere of Eclipse, the third installment of the Twilight series, for those of you living under rocks. The franchise’s trio, Rob Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner walked the red carpet, and, I must say, their fashion choices have me feeling mixed.

On the one hand, Pattinson dared to be different in a maroon (!) Gucci suit. The risk had a huge payoff though, since the actor looked dashingly dapper, which was thanks, in part, to his new ‘do. (Though you could tell he, or someone from his team, made sure to get maximum height out of his new cropped look for the sake of all the Twi-Hards.)

Stewart’s asymmetrical Elie Saab mini was nice in theory — its cut was edgy and, more importantly, it wasn’t black — but overall, it looked more like she was missing a sleeve than making a statement, not to mention the fact that, for someone with porcelain skin like that, ivory isn’t really the go-to color. I wish she would’ve worked a brighter hue, which we know she can most certainly do.

Meanwhile, Lautner was clearly on his way to a meeting with J.P. Morgan, judging by his business-style suit suit. Isn’t he the one with the most red carpet charisma?

Elsewhere on the red carpet, Dakota Fanning looked, once again, lovely, but, once again, the same.

What do you guys think of the Eclipse fashion? Who has the best look?

Jimmy Fallon's Robert Pattinson is bothered again, this time about the World Cup

botheredJimmy Kimmel Live! may have the stars — thanks to a Twilight: Eclipse special airing tomorrow night — but Jimmy Fallon has the laughs with his hilarious series of  “Bothered” shorts, in which he dresses up like Robert Pattinson’s Edward — complete with blue button-down, ghost-like makeup and a perch high-ish in the treetops.

This time around, Fallon’s Pattinson expresses his Anglo-infused frustration with the World Cup. Besides FIFA not inviting every country on the planet Earth to the game, his Pattison is not happy with the World Cup trophy, which he thinks looks like, ahem, male genitalia.

He even goes on to change the famous “Ole Ole” chant using his favorite word. Check out the video after the jump to find out which word and see what else bothers him about the soccer event:

'Eclipse': Today in clips... Still loving Bella's comforter, and now Victoria's snarl

twilight-ecliseImage Credit: Kimberley FrenchThe Twilight Saga: Eclipse marketing machine continues to tease us. Naturally, you’re gonna wanna play the clip below titled “Bedroom” first. We’ve seen a part of this chat on Bella’s bed before — she wants to know why Edward is really so reluctant to turn her into a vampire. The danger with knowing this story so well: You get bored with all the talking. You can tell this when you start complimenting her comforter in your head.

There’s also a new TV spot focusing on Victoria’s army of new vampires coming for Bella, and the werewolves and vampires joining forces to protect her. We get to see more of Victoria and the CGI wolf pack in action. Remember how in the first film, they had to tone down the vampire snarling because they looked kind of ridiculous. Victoria makes that work. Well done, Bryce Dallas Howard. READ FULL STORY

Taylor Lautner does cover story interview at Olive Garden: What chain restaurant do you secretly crave?

taylor-gq-coverImage Credit: Mario Testino/GQI have never enjoyed Taylor Lautner more than in the cover story of July’s GQ (on stands June 22). He let the writer tag along with him to Nickelodeon’s annual Kids’ Choice Awards — where DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg approached Lautner to ask if he had two minutes (because Will Smith wanted to meet him) — and then, a week later, suggested they do their lunch interview at his local Olive Garden. An excerpt:

“Do you like this place?” he asks, a little unsure, adding: “My father turned me on to it.” Without glancing at the menu, Lautner orders the Toscana soup, then asks to substitute the Caesar salad for the house. Before the waiter can reply, Lautner interrupts innocently: “I know,” he says, “it’ll be a dollar fifty extra. That’s fine.” Well, yes. Yes, it will be. READ FULL STORY
