PopWatch Planner: 'Star Trek Into Darkness,' TV finales, and more

TV finale season is in full swing this week, with endings served up on ScandalGrey’s Anatomy, and The Vampire Diaries, among others. But the most important entertainment event is arguably the box office bow of a new Star Trek movie — especially when the newest one is called Star Trek Into Darkness and comes studio-sealed in secrecy and trench coats in the form of Benedict Cumberbatch’s deep-voiced baddie.

That and oh-so-much more for the week ahead, below.

'Stars in Danger: The High Dive': tWitch and Shout with Antonio Sabato Jr. in a speedo

My esteemed colleague Mandi Bierly and I just sat through two hours of “celebrity” diving and can officially break this staggering news: Stephen “tWitch” Boss wore way too many clothes on So You Think You Can Dance. Nice shot, Fox! Well done. It’s a hit. READ FULL STORY

Mary Murphy on 'SYTYCD' finale: Chehon and Eliana -- The big winners!

In the first time in SYTYCD history, two ballet dancers take top honors!

In the closest race ever to be America’s favorite dancers, we were in such suspense to find out the answer. I had no idea how America was going to vote, especially since Tiffany and Cyrus were never in danger the entire season. So it took me by surprise who came out on top.

I stayed in my dressing room the night before. That’s right – I whipped out my blow-up bed and reflected on the whole season and which dances were highlights for me! I tried to keep it to two dances per show. We started this season with eight contemporary, three ballroom, three ballet, two jazz, one stepper, one belly dancer, one popper, and one martial arts fusion dancer.

'So You Think You Can Dance': Winners are...

SPOILER ALERT: One guy and one girl have been named Ameriker’s Favourite Dance-ahs following a two-hour finale featuring guest performances by The Dragon House and Carly Rae Jespen, who sang “The Kiss.” The judges all chose a favorite routine for the dancers to perform again, and then each of the final four chose a reprise as well. A dramatic “hip-hop card trick” routine featuring finalist Cyrus, all-stars tWitch and Comfort, and choreographer Christopher Scott was the night’s standout, though I’m pretty sure no one was complaining about getting to see some phenomenal routines — like Eliana and Alex Freaking Wong’s “Bang Bang” contemporary — one last time.

In lieu of presenting you with two hours’ worth of filler text, I’ll just come out with it already! The season 9 winners are… READ FULL STORY

Mary Murphy on 'SYTYCD': Season performance finale sizzles and pops!

Mary Murphy is blogging for EW.com this season! Catch up with her and her thoughts on the most recent episodes of So You Think You Can Dance.

I’m in such awe when these dancers go outside their style most weeks, but last night they had to do five dance numbers that put them out on the edge.  I heard there were quite a lot of tears backstage before the show started, as last night was the show that determined who was going to be America’s favorite dancers – so the pressure was on!

'So You Think You Can Dance' performance finale: Which guy and which girl should win?

Ooh, I love Final Four night! The guy-guy and girl-girl numbers are always a blast, and a great chance for a side-by-side comparison before our final votes. Tonight we got a sexy burlesque featuring Tiffany, Eliana, and a great big pole that reminded Nigel Lythgoe of an outing he’d had with Randy Jackson. *TMI, NIGEL.* Meanwhile, Cyrus and Chehon and their seemingly painted-on torsos rippled their way through a difficult Sonya Tayeh routine filled with lifts. Plus: a stunning pas de deux, all-stars Will Wingfield, Allison Holker, and Alex Freaking Wong, and the “Glitch”/”tWitch” snap animation number we’ve all been waiting for (even if we didn’t know it).

Nigel outright admitted he’d be voting for Chehon over Cyrus, and called Eliana his favorite dancer throughout the entire series. So that’s settled. Vote for the dancers you think should win after the break.

See tonight’s set list and voting numbers below: READ FULL STORY

Mary Murphy on 'SYTYCD': America has voted and four stars are left standing!

Mary Murphy is blogging for EW.com this season! Catch up with her and her thoughts on the most recent episodes of So You Think You Can Dance.

What an exciting night of dance! Tension ran high on the judging panel and in the audience as to who would make our finale. The pressure is off the judges because America voted for the top six tonight, and for who would be in the finale. We had absolutely no say, so I found it odd today that my Twitter was so abuzz with comments about how “we” could possibly let a certain dancer leave the show! Dancers in the finale are the dancers that America wanted. Whether they’re the best or not, it’s about them being America’s favorite dancers. So when I’m asked by reporters “Did America get it right?” — of course they did because it’s about America’s favorites!

'So You Think You Can Dance': Final four are....

SPOILER AHEAD: Don’t click through if you don’t want to know! After a top 6 performance night guest-judged by Christina Applegate, Lord Lythgoe has decreed which four dancers will be competing next Tuesday for the two titles (one guy, one girl) of “Ameriker’s Favourite Dancer.” The two dancers heading home are…. Mary Murphy on 'SYTYCD': Guest judge Jesse Tyler Ferguson rocks the panel

Mary Murphy is blogging for EW.com this season! Catch up with her and her thoughts on the most recent episodes of So You Think You Can Dance.

My favorite guest judge kept me in stitches all night but make no mistake he’s truly in love with all the dancers and the show. Starting the show off with a bang was a hip-hop number choreographed by Luther Brown. Luther was a judge and choreographer on the Canadian version of SYTYCD and currently works with Nikki Minaj. It was great to have Luther on the show because I miss my Canadian family and sitting next to Luther on the panel.

'So You Think You Can Dance': Jesse Tyler Ferguson is shaking and needs a cocktail

Jesse Tyler Ferguson — “weird and creepy and not a stalker,” he swears — just loves to come back and be a guest judge on So You Think You Can Dance. The Modern Family star invented the Hot Jalapeno Bus (a new friend for Mary Murphy’s Hot Tamale Train), and poignantly called out Will’s personal-story junket (“Dance saved my life…”) as a reason why arts programs are so important to schools. He is, quite simply, the best.

Meanwhile, the Top 8’s parents made everyone cry by talking about how proud they were (Chehon’s mom and Tiffany’s dad especially), and Eliana and DWTS: Live in Las Vegas headliner Ryan Di Lello tumbled their way through one of my favorite ballroom routines of the series. Actually, Chehon and Anya’s fit that bill, too. Smiling! In a tango! It worked!

SPOILERS AHEAD: The two dancers heading home are…. READ FULL STORY
