Pop Culture Pet Peeve: Not every sex scene needs a lift

There’s very little that’s realistic about Hollywood sex scenes—the passionate kisses in the rain, the way everyone wakes up perfectly covered by an L-shaped sheet, etc. But there’s one increasingly frequent sex scene cliché that especially gets on my nerves. It’s when, moments after the couple starts kissing and it’s evident that things are going to take a naked turn, the man picks up the woman.

My pet peeve isn’t about the move itself: I’m annoyed about the sudden overuse of said move (I can’t think of a single sex scene as of late that hasn’t resulted in a lift). And let’s just say that it isn’t always done gracefully. READ FULL STORY

'Hot Felon' Jeremy Meeks does not have a modeling contract (yet)

In a matter of weeks, Jeremy Meeks’ entire life has changed. After Meeks was booked on suspicion of felony weapons charges on Wednesday, June 18, his mug shot was posted to the Stockton Police Department’s Facebook page, where it quickly went viral, earning him the nickname “Hot Felon” and making him a trending topic on Twitter.

Felon or not, the nation was swooning over Meek’s sharp cheekbones and baby blue eyes. And despite recently finding out that Meeks is married, many still want to know what Meeks is up to now that he’s out of jail.

However, EW has confirmed that earlier reports of Meeks having a modeling contract are false. Gina Rodriguez of GR Media has signed on to represent Meeks, but according to GR Media, Meeks has not signed with anyone. He is, however, in talks with Jim Jordan from White Cross Management, so fans’ hopes of more head shots—sans orange jumpsuit—remain alive.

Stephen Amell makes us want to resurrect 'Battle of the Network Stars' (paging Mark Harmon) -- VIDEO

Stephen-Amell-01.jpg

With three weeks until he starts filming season 3 of the CW’s Arrow, Stephen Amell is hitting the gym hard, and we’re all reaping the benefits, really, as he continues to post his “Superhero Workout” videos on his Facebook page and YouTube channel. They involve slo-mo. So no, you’re not the only one seeing it that way. I checked.

I had two thoughts as I viewed the videos below. First, Arrow producers must be both thrilled to have a star who works this hard — and who, fingers crossed, helps the stunt team score an Emmy nom — and nervous that he’ll injure himself. I’d make them watch the slo-mo jump into those mats in Workout #2 on loop if I ever need to torture them. READ FULL STORY

Scout Willis posts topless photos on Twitter to protest Instagram policies

Is Scout Willis leading a revolution? (No.) But she is bashing Instagram.

Willis, a fashion designer best known as the daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, has started a mini Twitter revolution by posting topless photos of herself walking around New York City — and encouraging others to do the same. (The photos are, duh, NSFW.)

She’s doing this because she’s had it with Instagram’s photo policy, which doesn’t allow for any nudity, no matter the context (So, no breast cancer survivor photos, women nursing children, etc.) Willis posted a photo to Instagram of a sweatshirt she designed, featuring women with exposed breasts, and the image sharing site made her take it down.

Twitter, however, has no such stipulations. Just don’t think Willis took these photos because it’s crazy hot in New York City right now — #FreeTheNipple is so much bigger than that. Willis explained as such Thursday morning: READ FULL STORY

BBC didn't think Benedict Cumberbatch was sexy enough to play Sherlock Holmes

Cumberbitches, cover your eyes. You won’t like what you’re about to read.

According to Radio Times, Sherlock and Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat revealed at Monday’s Hay Festival that the BBC wasn’t always happy with his casting choices. Specifically: They didn’t think David Tennant was a sexy enough Casanova, and shockingly, they thought the same of Cumberbatch, who apparently lacked a certain sex appeal.

“They said of casting David Tennant as Casanova, ‘Damn, you should have cast someone sexier’,” Moffat said. “With Benedict Cumberbatch, we were told the same thing. ‘You promised us a sexy Sherlock, not him.'”

While it may make fans scream in protest, this actually isn’t the first time we’ve had this discussion. In EW’s cover story on the show, published this past January, writer Clark Collis chimed in on the Cumberbatch’s casting after talking to Moffat, Cumberbatch, and producer Sue Vertue: READ FULL STORY

'Dancing With the Stars': Maks and Val Chmerkovskiy strip down for a revealing interview -- VIDEO

There are many mysteries in this world, from Big Foot to the Bermuda Triangle. But there’s one mystery that’s about to get solved: Which Chmerkovskiy brother needs a bigger hat?

Let me explain. During a photo shoot for People in which Dancing With the Stars‘ Val and Maks Chmerkovskiy wore nothing but Pharrell-inspired hats on their crotches, the brothers also sat down for an interview. “Covering up” with nothing more than a towel/blanket — can you say luckiest interviewer ever? — the Ukrainian sex symbols played a game of “Him or Me.” The questions included things like who works out more, who had more girlfriends growing up, and, of course, who needs the bigger hat. Get it?

Another important note from the video? Maks’ life motto: “When in doubt, take off your shirt.” I’m telling you, guys, this is pure gold.

'Dancing With the Stars': Maks and Meryl deliver the best almost-kiss of 2014

DWTS-RECAP.jpg

Hollywood is in the business of chemistry. It’s all about casting the right actors, making sure the relationship feels believable, and then crossing your fingers that what you think you see translates to the screen. And then there are reality competitions, where chemistry rarely matters unless your name is Adam Levine or Blake Shelton.

Take Dancing With the Stars, for example. Viewers tune in to watch celebs potentially embarrass themselves on the dance floor with a professional partner they’re probably decent friends with, but we don’t expect much more than that. And then, once in a while, like a unicorn sighting, something magical happens and reality TV makes casting agents’ jobs look easy. Enter Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. READ FULL STORY
