Why is Rick Springfield singing in a subway station?

Jay-Z may take the R-train — but ’80s icon Rick Springfield did him one better yesterday, playing a pair of spontaneous, underground concerts inside two different New York City subway stations. (When you’re not famous, “surprise concerts in a subway station” are called “busking.”)

Was Springfield trying to promote his latest album, or was he simply serenading commuters because he felt bored on Wednesday morning? The point is probably moot — what matters is that he played “Jessie’s Girl,” which remains a solid jam that’s also much harder to belt out at karaoke than it has any right to be. Need proof?
