So Rebel Wilson had kind of a rough time hosting the MTV Movie Awards last night, though one of her best moments came courtesy of other people’s buzz. And it turns out there was more of that. As this axed sketch shows — in which, True Life-style, we follow a day in the life of Katherine Lawrence, Jennifer’s twin sister and semi-professional shade-thrower — Wilson had a 2-minute answer to everyone who tuned in asking, “Where’s J-Law?”

Why was it cut? (Apparently the ceremony was running over into The Show with Vinny.) Who does Wilson’s wigs? At what point do the references to “boob meat” and boners tip her comedy formula from “screwball-nasty” to “day-old and gross”? Take a look and wonder after the jump.

MTV Movie Awards host Rebel Wilson is known for a particularly uncomfortable brand of comedy. Witness: Pitch Perfect‘s Fat Amy, who told the Barden Bellas she adopted the moniker “so skinny bitches like you don’t do it behind my back.” Considering the fact that at least one promo for tonight’s show featured a punchline in which Wilson found her in a compromising position regarding Channing Tatum’s junk, it seemed clear that the Aussie hostess wouldn’t spare the salacious.

To her credit, Wilson didn’t go the safe route. Most of her jokes fell on the absurdist side of the comedy spectrum rather than the conventional, Poconos-style yuks that hosts generally adopt for these occasions. (The one exception, in her intro of Kerry Washington: “Our next presenter is one of the few actresses that plays strong black women more than Tyler Perry.”) Whether her one-liners landed or not, they certainly delivered an across-the-board jaw-drop factor.

'Pitch Perfect' cast reunites for MTV Movie Awards opener -- VIDEO

MTV Movie Awards host Rebel Wilson revived her Pitch Perfect fan favorite Fat Amy tonight in a much-anticipated musical reunion. Though Perfect‘s headliner Anna Kendrick (who blew away the world with her “Cups” audition from the film) was absent, there was an aca-Avenger-esque assembly of stars including Anna Camp, Skylar Astin, Esther Dean, Adam Devine, Alexis Knapp, Hana Mae Lee, Ben Platt, and Brittany Snow.

The mash-up included a Wilson-sung rendition of Miley Cyrus ballad “The Climb,” the Treblemakers’ Astin spitting rhymes on Eminem’s ”Lose Yourself,” and a roof-raising finale courtesy of a “Thriftshop”/”Girl on Fire” blend with Dean showing off her Alicia Keys-level pipes. Oh yeah, and there was a very intense strapless black catsuit  reveal by Wilson.

MTV Movie Awards: Sneak peek of Rebel Wilson in 'Magic Mike' -- VIDEO

The MTV Movie Awards has always relished a movie parody. If this leaked clip of Rebel Wilson’s “never-before-seen” Magic Mike cameo is any indication of what’s in store tonight, this year’s show won’t disappoint. In the clip, Matthew McConaughey’s (only slightly dubbed) Dallas introduces “Pregnant,” a baby bumped-up Wilson, to the Xquisite stage.

The Kid (Alex Pettyfer) looks on in horrified bemusement as “Pregnant” — decked out in spandex shorts, cowboy boots, a mesh top, and a Mia Wallace-wig – struts out  to Salt-n-Pepa’s “Push It” and gyrates. Naturally, the ladies in the crowd go wild. She even gets an unexpected dance partner (hint: it’s not Channing Tatum).

If even Mike warned, “You don’t want to know what I have to do for twenties,” we’re guessing you really don’t want to know how far this gal’ll go…. Check it out below.

Is a ‘Pitch Perfect’ sequel a good idea?

The little a cappella movie that could was released on DVD this week – and not a moment too soon, as I can’t wait to re-watch Beca, Jesse, Fat Amy and all the rest sing their way through their college trials and tribulations. I – and many, many others – loved the movie when I saw it in theaters and can’t wait to see it again. But when I heard the news that Pitch Perfect may be getting a sequel, I screamed  “NOOO!!!” out loud.

According to a report from Movieweb, both Rebel Wilson (Fat Amy) and Skylar Astin (Jesse) have had talks with Universal about reprising their roles. No other details were immediately available. EW reached out to a rep for Universal, who didn’t respond to a request for comment.

To me, this is a bad idea that will turn into a half-hearted attempt to recreate the buzzy magic of the original. However, if Pitch Perfect 2: This Time It’s Pitchier really has to happen, it needs to avoid the pitfalls of the Mean Girls and Bring It On sequels – the two movies to which Pitch Perfect is most often compared. Those films practically repeated the plots of the originals, with a whole different cast of characters. And spoiler alert, they did not need to bring it on again.

Instead, a Pitch Perfect sequel should follow another franchise: High School Musical.

'Pitch Perfect': The real story about collegiate a cappella

It’s aca-awesome, for sure. But aca-accurate?

Pitch Perfect is finally in wide release this week, and the buzzy collegiate a cappella movie already has quite a few fans. With my colleague Lanford Beard, I checked out the movie last weekend, was completely charmed, and instantly wanted to know anything and everything about collegiate a cappella.

The movie obviously takes some liberties, but here at PopWatch, we were curious to learn how close the Beca (Anna Kendrick) singing experience was to the real thing. So we called up Drew O’Shanick, a third-year student at University of Virginia and member of the a cappella group the Hullabahoos, who actually cameoed in the film (for those that have seen, they’re the group that briefly sang “Final Countdown” as part of a montage). The Hullabahoos were also one of the groups featured in the non-fiction book Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory, on which the movie is based.

No big plot points are given away in this very scientific (Read: Please don’t take this seriously!) exploration, but a SPOILER ALERT! to those that haven’t yet seen the film and don’t want to know anything. READ FULL STORY »

Rebel Wilson, Ellen DeGeneres rap 'Shoop': 'I like 'em real wild' -- VIDEO

Rebel Wilson has been chatting up a storm on late night. First, there was that whole thing where she admitted to learning American English from Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. Then, she terrorized Walter White himself on The Tonight Show. Now she’s joined Ellen DeGeneres for a badass rendition of Salt-N-Pepa’s “Shoop.”

While visiting Ellen to promote her “aca-awesome” movie Pitch Perfect, Wilson confessed that she’d always wanted to rap with DeGeneres. “I did once have a dream that I rapped with you,” the Australian actress said. “Like a double act. I had a great act with my sister. She’s kind of fallen off the wagon… Gotten a job, she’s not so gangster any more. I had a dream that I just rapped with you and the audience just went crazy.”

At that, the audience started to clap, prompting Wilson to declare laughingly, “I think they want us to do something.” What ensued was a choreographed sequence of sheer fabulousness. Check it out below: READ FULL STORY »

Rebel Wilson sings, freaks out Bryan Cranston on 'The Tonight Show' -- VIDEO

In case you weren’t aware, we at EW are just a little excited about Pitch Perfect, the college a cappella comedy that’s out in wide release this Friday. For weeks, we’ve been releasing exclusive videos from the film — and last weekend, our own Lanford Beard declared a limited-release screening of PP to be “aca-mazing.” (That’s a reference to the movie, not a cutesy neologism we made up.)

And if you watch the following video of Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson recreating her audition for the film, you might understand why we’re so pumped. The Bridesmaids actress started by warming up, shaking her hands and then cupping her, uh, boobular area — “A lot of people sing from their chest voice,” she explained, “and I sing from my breast voice. It’s a new thing that I do.” Then she performed a rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Edge of Glory” that starts small but ends huge — by the last note, fellow Tonight Show guest Bryan Cranston is forced to cower or face getting hit by one of Wilson’s shoes.
