'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills': When agony overtakes ecstasy

real-housewives-bh-kim

Yesterday was a rough day for the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Swift on the heels of reports that cast member Kim Richards had checked herself in to rehab, Bravo aired a gut punch of an episode that showed yet another emotional breakdown from Taylor Armstrong, who admitted on last night’s Watch What Happens Live that her life was “unraveling.” It’s not the first time issues of abuse, be they substance or physical, have been addressed any number of reality shows from The Anna Nicole Show to Jersey Shore, but what is it about this season of Beverly Hills that is so much more uncomfortable than those other shows? Taylor Armstrong: 'I was a trainwreck' this season on 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills'

Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live is known for its levity, including Cohen’s penchant to name a “Jackhole of the Day” and invite guests to play parlor games with names like “Atlanta or A-Man-ta.” Tonight, though, when Taylor Armstrong stopped by to discuss the latest in a series of dramatic Real Housewives of Beverly Hills episodes centering on her fraught marriage, the tension was palpable.

“I was a trainwreck,” Taylor admitted, regarding the filming for this latest season of Beverly Hills. All the episodes were shot while she was trying to reconcile with her husband Russell, who ultimately committed suicide in August. The get-together shown on this evening’s episode was especially stressful because it was in the wake of revelations about the Armstrongs’ abusive marriage by fellow Housewife Camille Grammer — facts that Taylor herself only admitted after her husband’s death. Looking back on the cataclysmic meltdown she suffered during the get-together at Housewife Brandi Glanville’s house, Taylor admitted, “I see a woman who was out of control…about to go off the deep end.” What else did she have to say about the last days of her marriage and today’s news that her fellow Housewife has gone to rehab?  READ FULL STORY »

EW’s Bite of the Night for Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011

We at EW scoured Sunday’s TV line-up to find the best one-liners from your favorite shows. When it comes to the Real Housewives of Atlanta, everybody knows that Phaedra Parks gives the best Bite. Though much of the communication was nonverbal last night, thanks to a stirring appearance by the aptly named stripper Ridickulous, it was Phaedra’s appraisal of her own assets that got us giggling. Because televising her wedding worked out so well for that other Kim, Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kim Zolciak has signed on for a Bravo special documenting her whirlwind walk down the aisle. Don’t Be Tardy for the Wedding will give “an up close and personal look at the next chapter in my life,” says Zolciak. 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills': Was the tea party scene the most uncomfortable of the season?

“The Giggy is up!” Taylor Armstrong declared on last night’s Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. This statement came during the midpoint of the most uncomfortable confrontation of the series franchise yet, eclipsing even the Richards’ sisters limo tussle from the season 1 finale. Lisa Vanderpump may have invited her 90210 pals and Taylor (note the distinction) over for a spot of tea, but Taylor had other plans. She tore into the British crumpet for any number of reasons while the other ladies looked on in silent horror. Our own Karen Valby called it “a deeply weird, troubling hour of TV” and “a relentless look at Taylor barreling off the rails.” But how did the afternoon escalate from Earl Grey to abuse revelations? Kim Zolciak wedding photo: The bride wore...

…everything but the kitchen sink, apparently. Real Housewives of Atlanta‘s Kim Zolciak seems to have taken the approach of fellow Georgian Scarlett O’Hara with her ornate wedding gown. In pics released to Life & Style, Kim shows off her new husband (as of last Friday) Kroy Biermann and the gown to end all gowns. Covered in beading, embroidery, and hand-carved crystal roses, Kim spared no detail with her Double Duchess Satin Baracci number. She even wore a custom veil with matching beads and embroidered lace. Who says Southerners don’t understand subtlety? READ FULL STORY »

EW's Bite of the Night for Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011

We at EW scoured the TV line-up last night to find the best one-liners from your favorite shows. Sunday may have been a day of rest for at least one housewife on Wisteria Lane, but Atlanta was an entirely different story. The sassy, Southern Real Housewives hit the ground running on their fourth season opener, including an epic, episode-ending showdown between outsize personalities NeNe Leakes and Sheree Whitfield. So what qualifies as a day off for the Desperate Housewives, and what barbed banter flew back and forth between NeNe and Sheree? Keep reading…

Beverly Hills' Lisa Vanderpump joins singing 'Housewives' pantheon with 'Will You Love Me Tomorrow' (Answer: No.)

Amy Winehouse is rolling in her grave, Shirelles’ singer Shirley Owens is ripping her hair out one strand at a time, and Carole King is gnashing her teeth. At least that’s what I imagine is happening since Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa Vanderpump unleashed a new cover of  “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” on the world. Vanderpump unveiled a portion of the song — produced by Lionel Richie — to Ryan Seacrest this morning, and ohhhhhh it is awful. Let’s just say Danielle Staub‘s golden pipes remain firmly ensconced at the top of the Real Housewives musical heap, and Vanderpump is likely getting some serious side eye from the likes of Melissa Gorga, Countess LuAnn, and Kim Zolciak right about now. Hear Vanderpump’s stab at singing (starting around 5:20) after the jump — if you dare! READ FULL STORY »
