Piers Morgan makes Twitter dig at 'Daily Show' Emmy loss: 'It's over for Jon Stewart'

Does Piers Morgan have a beef with Jon Stewart? The British host of CNN’s Piers Morgan Live took to Twitter to react to The Colbert Report winning over The Daily Show for Outstanding Variety Series at the Emmys last night:

Matthew Perry and Lisa Kudrow wish they were still making 'Friends'

Friends: they’re just like us!

Okay, so the unwashed masses usually don’t spend their Friday nights guest-hosting Piers Morgan Tonight. But they do spend their time wishing that modern history’s greatest sitcom — yeah, Seinfeld partisans, I said it — had never gone off the air.

Matthew Perry filled in for Morgan late last week, giving him a golden opportunity to reunite with guest and ex-costar Lisa Kudrow. Though Kudrow’s long since moved on to another series — Web Therapy, which began its third season on Showtime last week — the conversation naturally turned to their shared history, and, more specifically, their nostalgia for the Friends era.

“I find myself sort of reminiscing about how much fun the show was,” Perry said at one point. “If I had a time machine, I would like to go back to 2004 and not have stopped, you know?”

Evidently, Kudrow feels the same way. “Oh, I would keep going,” she said in response — adding, “There would have come a time anyway when someone would have said we’ve had enough, but why not have fun until they do?”

Michelle Shocked apologizes for anti-gay remarks on 'Piers Morgan,' sort of -- VIDEO

Michelle Shocked’s rambling, quasi-coherent appearance on Piers Morgan Tonight this Monday wasn’t nearly as, well, shocking as Alex Jones‘s — but it did inspire nearly as many furrowed brows.

The born-again alt-folk singer stopped by the show in order to apologize for and clarify anti-gay remarks she made at a concert March 17. (A sample: “When they stop Prop 8 and force priests at gunpoint to marry gays, it will be the downfall of civilization, and Jesus will come back… You can go on Twitter and say, ‘Michelle Shocked says God hates f—s.’”) While Shocked began by unequivocally admitting that she “made a mistake,” her explanation soon went off the rails.

“If I had the chance to go back and do it again, I don’t think I would have taken the audience up on their choice. I had presented an entire performance, and I had framed it as truth, and then I came back out for an encore, and they requested reality,” Shocked said, as though she were explaining that 2 plus 2 is 4. “And what has consequently taken place ever since then is my manifestation of how little I think of reality. I know that it’s a stock in trade for a lot of the media to just present things like that’s how it really is, but I don’t think the audience was ready for the consequences of that. And I surely have not been happy with it.”

Ted Nugent to Piers Morgan: Leave gun owners alone! -- VIDEO

In Ted Nugentland, President Obama is “an evil, dangerous man who hates America and hates freedom” — and so is Piers Morgan, the CNN host who’s become an object of conservative ire since he began his gun control crusade in December. So when Morgan interviewed Nugent yesterday — at a gun store, naturally — sparks flew pretty much immediately.

Nugent accused the Brit of having an unreasonable vendetta against guns. When Morgan tried to say that he cares about “all deaths,” Nugent laid into him even more: “I don’t think you do. I think you’re obsessed with guns. Ninety-nine percent of the gun owners of America are wonderful people that you are hanging around with here today, perfectly safe, perfectly harmless, wonderful, loving, giving, caring, generous people. Would you leave us the hell alone?!”

Conspiracy theorist goes off on epic gun rant, mocks Piers Morgan for being British -- VIDEO

Looks like “paleo-conservative” radio host Alex Jones has finally topped his raving, Charlie Sheen-defending 2011 appearance on The View.

The brains behind infowars.com — tagline: “BECAUSE THERE IS A WAR ON FOR YOUR MIND” — visited Piers Morgan Tonight yesterday, ostensibly to have a sensible debate with Morgan about gun control. Morgan has called for stricter gun laws in the wake of last month’s shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary; Jones, who estimates that he owns more than 50 firearms, has responded to Morgan’s statements by writing a petition to get the CNN host deported. As of this morning, the petition has over 106,000 signatures.

The whole “sensible debate” thing basically went out the window as soon as Jones started talking — about the “megabanks that control the planet” and “brag that they’re going to take our guns as well,” about selective seratonin reuptake inhibitors like Prozac (which he calls “suicide mass murder pills”), about the “criminal elements of the military industrial complex” that were also behind 9/11 and the 1964 Gulf of Tonkin incident, and about, uh, great white sharks. (It made sense in context. No it didn’t.)
