People‘s reveal of Channing Tatum as the “sexiest man alive” completely overshadowed The Onion‘s announcement yesterday of their pick for 2012′s sexiest beast — Kim Jong-un. Sure, his abs and pecks are less blinding than Tatum’s (or more, depending on how you look at it), but North Korea’s supreme leader deserves to share the limelight!
After the Bradley Cooper/Ryan Gosling contretemps of 2011, it’s difficult to argue with People‘s choice for this year’s Sexiest Man Alive. Not only does Channing Tatum look the part, but he’s wrapping up a calendar year where he proved he was funny (21 Jump Street and Saturday Night Live), sweet and sensitive (The Vow), and had the moves of a stripper (Magic Mike). All three of those movies topped more than $110 million at the box office, and he was a main attraction in each.
“My first thought was, ‘Y’all are messing with me,’” the 32-year-old Tatum, who married actress Jenna Dewan-Tatum in 2009, told the magazine. “I told Jenna after we’d been in the bathtub washing our dogs because they’d gotten skunked.”
“People know him to be fun and sexy, but they don’t know how emotionally deep and spiritually open he is,” Dewan-Tatum, 31, told People “He is such an open-hearted person; what you see is what you get.”
