'SYTYCD' season 8 kicks off tonight: Are you screaming for joy like Mary?

Over the past few seasons, we’ve had a strange relationship with So You Think You Can Dance. For five seasons, it was the perfect antidote to our American Idol withdrawal. It was a viable replacement for the Idol season — and even boasted better music. (Yeah, I said it!) But then, after season 5 concluded, its producers decided to switch things up, offering us a fall season. And after having just watched Jeanine Mason pick up the win, So You Think You Can Dance fans weren’t necessarily eager to watch the show stretch its legs into another season so soon.

Then, thanks to poor ratings, SYTYCD decided to revamp its premise for season 7, hiring all-stars to renew our interest in the show. The new premise worked for hardcore fans — but failed to pick up many more viewers. In fact, the season posted some of the least impressive ratings of the series’ entire run. Had the show lost its luster? Or, after two back-to-back seasons, did we simply experience SYTYCD exhaustion, making its summer premiere less anticipated?

We’ll see which is true tonight, with the return of the dance competition series. READ FULL STORY »

Let the ugly cry commence: Final 'Oprah Show' to tape today!

Oprah-Winfrey

Not since last year’s Lost finale has there been more heated speculation about how a show will end. While one can only assume things will be decidedly different (with seemingly less smoke monsters) during the final episode of The Oprah Show (“Everybody welcome Mr. Ekoooooooo!” “You get a hatch and you get a hatch!”), it’s still anyone’s guess as to how the Queen of All Media will bow out. See the emphasis on how? Sure, we’ve all guessed who will pay a visit to the big O during the very last episode of her show, but what will be the tone of the final episode?

Oprah executive producer Sheri Salata announced via her Twitter that the talk show finale would tape today (ruling out for good the live finale possibility), but she kept very mum — and understandably so — on how it was all going to come to a close. READ FULL STORY »

Al Roker becomes the fifth Wiggle: 'This will be one of the highlights of my career' -- WATCH!

For Today‘s Anchors Abroad series, Al Roker traveled to Australia to join The Wiggles live on onstage, dressed as grapes, and in the music video, “Thank You, Weatherman,” dressed in an orange skivvy. And yet, my favorite part of this whole stunt is when we cut back to Roker and the ladies of Today in the studio this morning after the U.S. premiere of the video and they were dancing. We’ll miss Meredith Vieira’s enthusiasm. That’s in the second clip below. Enjoy.  READ FULL STORY »

Jon Stewart raps Fox News with uncommon beat

There was nothing common about Jon Stewart’s critique of Fox News most recent political furor last night. Yes, he played clips of Fox’s biggest stars lambasting the White House for inviting the rapper Common to a prestigious poetry event, since they claimed some of his lyrics were misogynistic and celebrated cop-killing. Sure, Stewart then followed that up with archival Fox footage that seemed to undermine their noble ideals when the shoe was on the other foot. Par for the course, you say? Yawn? “This isn’t even fun any more,” Stewart himself lamented, referring to the footage his staff finds of Fox’s personalities contradicting themselves. “We’ve actually started burying these tapes around the office just to make this sporting.”

So that’s when Stewart took it to a new level. He demanded a beat and brought the libs to their feet. With a rap so wack that even his enemies would not dare attack… Yeah, yeah, check out Stew-Beef, dropping some mad words. READ FULL STORY »

Royal Wedding flower girl Grace Van Cutsem is not having it, you guys

Yeah, yeah, yeah, the amazing dress, the pomp and circumstance, the enormous circular cake. Sorry, but the Royal Wedding was all about seriously unimpressed flower girl Grace Van Cutsem, who upstaged the entire thing with a photo-ready pout. (Sorry, Posh, Grace’s was better.) Seriously, she’s already got her own tumblr! If looks could kill, there would have been scads of British goners today.

The Aflac Duck gets new voice. A nation exhales sigh of relief, while simultaneously covering ears

Gilbert Gottfried may have been silenced for his insensitive jokes about the tsunami that ravaged Japan, but the Aflac duck will quack once more.

After an extensive nationwide search, Aflac has found a replacement for their loud, insurance-shilling duck to startle you once again when your television gets inexplicably loud during commercial breaks. With over 12,000 submissions (we sincerely hope there was some sort of raise/incentive for whoever had to listen to all of those), Daniel McKeague, a 36-year-old radio sales manager from Hugo, Minn., bested them all. 'Real Housewives of New York City' Simon van Kempen has also found his voice

Simon-van-Kempen

Until Bravo greenlights Real Househusbands of Topeka, the better halves from our favorite regional guilty pleasures will continue to remain (mostly) in the background, used sparingly for comic relief  or (in attempts) to stop hair-pulling before it happens.

On The Real Housewives of New York City, LuAnn de Lesseps astutely observed that the once sheepish Alex McCord has now “found her voice” this season, and it appears so has her husband Simon van Kempen. The Aussie has had his own battles with Jill Zarin, Ramona Singer, and Sonja Morgan over the years, but now has decided to follow the “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em” Housewives mantra by embarking on a music career. Yes, Simon is bringing the voice inside his heart to the masses with his single “I Am Real,” a “tongue-in-cheek” take on his life in the Bravolebrity bubble that manages to use his wife’s now infamous one-liner: “You know I do my best/I dress up to impress/But she’s causing me stress/Thug in a cocktail dress.” Expose your eardrums to greatness by listening below.  READ FULL STORY »

Rebecca Black's 'Friday': Will someone please think of the children?!

Kids say the darndest things. Maybe your grumpy ol’ ears didn’t embrace the “Friday” phenomenon, but you’re not a tween. Actually, it turns out tweens pretty much despised Rebecca Black’s homemade video, too. At least they say they do. In an online series titled, “Kids React to Viral Videos,” a handful of youngsters were forced to watch the “Friday” video (below). Not Clockwork Orange style, but it sort of felt that way. Rebecca Black on 'Leno': Viral sensation talks 'Friday,' performs hit

Often, seeing a viral video star make an appearance in the mainstream media is like seeing a dog wearing clothes: confusing, jarring, and a little sad. Nevertheless, infamous “Friday” songstress Rebecca Black was perfectly likable on Leno last night. The 13-year-old told Jay the now-familiar story of how she got involved with Ark Music Factory, how she felt when she first read the nasty criticism “Friday” has inspired (“I was like, oh, the world hates me, I’m gonna die! … Now I don’t even read them, so they don’t bug me”), and what she’s going to do with the ridiculous amount of money she’s made off the song (it’ll be donated to Japan earthquake/tsunami relief). Leno went pretty easy on her, probably because he knows what it feels like to be the target of harsh words.

And then Rebecca had to perform the chorus of her song. Watch the interview below. READ FULL STORY »

Rebecca Black's 'Friday' is bringing in the dough

Rebecca-Black

Are you sitting down? Good, because I’ve got some shocking news. According to Forbes, “Friday” — the insipid but catchy tune created by Ark Music Factory and performed by shiny-haired 13-year-old Rebecca Black — is pulling in some serious bank.

As of a few seconds ago, Black’s video has some 33.5 million views on YouTube. READ FULL STORY »
