Asked why K-1, Kayak Single, is good TV, and first-time Olympian Caroline Queen doesn’t hesitate. “I think kayaking is one of the most visually appealing sports because a lot of people aren’t familiar with whitewater and the dynamics behind it. I like to think we have one of the prettiest venues, so I think that’s some entertainment value. Plus, because water is a moving medium, each athlete has a unique experience on the course. You might think that it’s the same thing over and over again, but it’s really not. Each athlete’s gonna get a little bit different water, a little bit different style.”
Women’s K-1 gets underway Monday. Watch heats live at 9:22 a.m. ET on NBCOlympics.com, or on NBC’s broadcast at 11 a.m. ET. Medals will be awarded on Aug. 2.
If you need a reason to root for Queen in particular, how about this one: She’s as upset that ABC canceled Better Off Ted after two seasons as we are. “Before the trials, I was watching a lot of this show called Better Off Ted on Amazon, just to sort of relax in the morning. I had never really heard of it before, and then I caught one episode, and I was like, this is hilarious! By the time our trials were over, I ended up watching the whole series.”
