Best of 2011 (Behind the Scenes): 'The Walking Dead' makeup guru Greg Nicotero talks about the horrifying well zombie

Zombie-well-Walking

As 2011 comes to a close, EW.com wanted to honor some of the hardworking names and faces from behind the scenes for their outstanding achievements. Makeup designer Greg Nicotero is unquestionably the off-screen hero of AMC’s zombie megahit The Walking Dead, since he and his team at KNB Efx Group are responsible for the gruesome hordes of gore-splattered undead. No walker stood out more in Walking Dead‘s second season than the bloated creature our heroes found lurking at the bottom of a well. Let Nicotero walk you through the making — and breaking — of this season’s Most Valuable Zombie.

As Told By: Greg Nicotero

Right when they opened the writers’ room at the start of season 2, they said, “We want to do a field trip.” And I said, “Yeah! You should bring all the guys to KNB. They can walk around the shop, see what we’re building, what we’ve built, maybe get a little inspiration.” We had a whole bunch of stuff on display from other films that we had done. We had a mask that we made for Grindhouse of this infected guy, all bloated and distressed and disgusting. READ FULL STORY

POLL: Why did you watch the 'Victoria's Secret Fashion Show'? (Note: There are more than 'two good reasons')

I know, I know. What a ridiculous question. Everybody knows that the only reason you “accidentally” tuned in for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, all 10.3 million of you, was because you left the TV on after you spent a wholesome evening watching Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer and got distracted whilst baking cookies. (For the models! Happy Holidays, girls!)

Are they gone?… Okay, so now that your judgmental loved ones and co-workers are out of the room, we here at PopWatch are dying to know: Why did you actually watch the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and help propel it to Tuesday night’s highest-rated show? READ FULL STORY

'Enlightened': Is Amy crazy or am I for not liking her?

I know I’m crazy. We’ll get to that.

Now that Dancing With the Stars is over, I was able to spend a Monday night with the second most illuminating show on television: HBO’s Enlightened. (I dare them to use that in a promo.)

I caught up with the first seven episodes over Thanksgiving weekend and found that my general reactions towards Laura Dern’s protagonist, Amy, often closely resembled those of Amy’s former assistant Krista (Sarah Burns, pictured), who makes the same terrible facial expression (also pictured, apologies) whenever Amy says something that attempts to equalize the two women or at least throw them back on the same side. Which is really crappy of me, because obviously Krista sucks!  READ FULL STORY

Bradley Cooper declared 'People's Sexiest Man Alive

Bradley Cooper has just found his place in history. Sexy, sexy history. The Hangover Part II star has joined the prestigious ranks of Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and Ryan Reynolds in being declared the Sexiest Man Alive by People.

2011 has already been a pretty big year for Cooper who, in addition to being linked to fellow sexy being Jennifer Lopez, starred in the box-office smash sequel to The Hangover and the critical hit, Limitless. He also won over the Internet with his ability to speak French, and got cast, rather fittingly, as a handsome devil in Paradise Lost. But this might just be his biggest accomplishment yet. At least to his mom. “[The] first thing I thought [when I was named Sexiest Man Alive] was, ‘My mother is going to be so happy,” the 36-year-old told the magazine.

In addition to the oh-so-modest Sexiest Man Cooper (“I think it’s really cool that a guy who doesn’t look like a model can have this [title]“), the issue, which hits stands on Friday, also features, among others, Liam Hemsworth (sorry Peeta!), Idris Elba, Justin Theroux, Chris Evans, Tim McGraw, Josh Charles, Joel McHale, Jason Momoa, Alec Baldwin, Dylan McDermott, and, duh, Ryan Gosling.

Would you agree that Bradley Cooper is the Sexiest Man Alive? Sound off in the comments section, PopWatchers.

'Jack and Jill': Do you still see Adam Sandler flicks, or did you give that up a long, long time ago?

The funniest thing about the trailer for Jack and Jill, a real movie that opens in theaters this weekend, is how fake it all seems. The mind-bogglingly absurd image of Adam Sandler playing both himself and his boorish, Noo Yawk twin sister Jill looked like it could have been one of the movies his Funny People character willingly sold out to make a quick buck for. Actually, it felt more like something out of a South Park episode in which they’d parody the mind-boggling absurdity of most Sandler flicks. (“Adam Sandler is his own twin sister… and Rob Schneider is a stapler!”) I take that back, the funniest thing about the Jack and Jill trailer is that it produced this. Brilliant.

Still, no one, especially not critics, seem to be laughing at Sandler’s latest pass at, er, comedy. (EW’s Lisa Schwarzbaum gave the film a D+, helping the film earn its 2 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Well, at least its no Bucky Larson, right? Right?!) Will anyone other than masochists and the most hardcore Sandler devotees see this? READ FULL STORY

Ryan Gosling is strong, silent type in new spoof: Watch here!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. A picture of Ryan Gosling? That’s worth its weight in Internet gold.

Web darling of the moment Gosling has struck again, this time unwittingly starring in a FunnyOrDie trailer for the fake film, Quiet Ryan — rated M for mute, of course. The clip dramatically reads, “In a world with constant communication, it can be hard to find your voice.” The trailer then goes into a compilation of every lingering glance, pregnant pause and dramatic gaze the actor takes in films such as Blue Valentine, Ides of March and, obviously, Drive. Gosling doesn’t speak a word in the entire two minute clip.

The spoof sells his actual acting ability short, but you really can’t argue with the movie’s tagline: “He’s just nice to look at.” Cue Gosling taking off his Crazy, Stupid shirt (silently).

Watch the trailer below: READ FULL STORY

Guy Fawkes Day is tomorrow. If only there was some sort of helpful reminder!

Remember, remember… the something… of something.

Turns out, tomorrow is Guy Fawkes Day. Of course, if you’ve visited or attended any of the Occupy Wall Street rallies or protests, every day has sort of looked like Guy Fawkes Day. READ FULL STORY

Harold Camping apologizes for once again messing up our Rapture plans

Seemingly always-surprised prophesier Harold Camping may have finally realized the old adage “If at first you don’t succeed…” doesn’t necessarily apply to him. After two fake-outs regarding the end of days (his first Rapture prediction was back in May and then rescheduled for October) Camping apologized once more to his followers in a Family Radio address on Oct. 28.

ChristianPost.com posted a transcript of Camping’s apology (which is for the best, because in my head it sounded something like this) in which he stated, “Why didn’t Christ return on Oct. 21? It seems embarrassing for Family Radio. But God was in charge of everything. We came to that conclusion after quite careful study of the Bible. He allowed everything to happen the way it did without correction. He could have stopped everything if He had wanted to.” READ FULL STORY

Steven Tyler explains his fall on 'Today' -- VIDEO

Despite looking like, as Today host Matt Lauer described it, “the wrong guy in a fight,” Steven Tyler assured fans via a phone interview from Argentina that he’s going just fine. In fact, it wasn’t a fight or falling off the wagon that did Tyler in, the Aerosmith singer insisted. Rather he took a spill in the shower after a bout with food poisoning.

Tyler, who is currently on tour with his band, had to postpone a show in Paraguay after falling in a hotel bathroom, which he explained to Lauer this morning. “I started to get sick, and I just fell on my face. I just passed out,” Tyler said about the fall that caused him to wind up getting four stitches in his eye and plastic surgery to get a tooth fixed.

The American Idol judge insisted it was the repercussions of food poisoning, not his ongoing recovery from drug and alcohol abuse, that made him pass out. “I get that people think that,” he said of the assumption that it was from the latter, adding, “It still bothers me a little, but it’s something that I have to deal with for the rest of my life.”

Watch the full clip below, in which Tyler explains why he got back on stage so soon after the incident (“I looked at myself in the mirror and just thought, ‘We should go on with the show tonight,’ and we did”) and then shouts “You can’t handle the truth!” at Lauer: READ FULL STORY

Top 5 signs your Ryan Gosling crush is getting out of control

Ryan Gosling is perfect.

There’s no room for debate on that. Disagree? I’m sorry, you’re just wrong. Did you even see the Dirty Dancing scene with Emma Stone in Crazy, Stupid, Love.? Were you born without a pulse? He won our collective hearts in The Notebook, challenged our way of thinking (I loved Lars and the Real Girl, Ryan! I get you!), and officially hit A-list status this year with Love, Drive, and Ides of March.

And that’s just onscreen; his off-screen antics — hey girl! — are certainly not helping my borderline-stalking behavior. (Story of my life… ) So I get it. I’m right there with you, PopWatchers. But to not be ostracized by your friends — and not to mention to avoid police interest — here is my handy guide outlining warning signs that your Ryan Gosling love may be out of control.*  READ FULL STORY
