Moleskine partners with Evernote for Smart Notebook

Print is dead!

Well, not exactly. Moleskine, the renowned manufacturer of journals and diaries, has partnered with digital scribes Evernote to produce a new tech-compatible notebook. Called the Evernote Smart Notebook, its physical pages can be digitized with Evernote’s iPhone and iPad programs, allowing users to search and organize them as though they were digital documents. (The new notebooks have special inked lines that allow your scribbled notes to be easily scanned and digitized by a smartphone or tablet’s camera.) READ FULL STORY

J.K. Rowling building her children the best tree houses ever

On Wednesday, Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling received permission to build the most amazing tree houses ever seen on the face of this planet (and probably any other). Seriously, just look at that picture there.

The tree houses, which are Hogwarts Castle-inspired, stand two stories tall and include a rope bridge, turrets and secret tunnels. And you thought your yellow slide was cool.

Instead of being overwhelmed by seething jealously, however (okay, maybe there was just a moment of weakness), we at PopWatch started brainstorming what Harry Potter creations we’d like to see in our own homes. READ FULL STORY

Republican National Convention: Tuesday's winners, and who'd play Ann Romney in a movie?

I can’t believe I watched it either! I’d like to thank the following five forces of nature for making my first prime time RNC viewing experience such a pleasure.

1. Mitt’s Body Man: This is the genius name of Mitt Romney’s personal aide’s Twitter account. The guy keeps posting pic after pic of Romney doing human-like activities like watching TV, and of the happy Happy Days couple settling down in their sexy hotel room. But I’m mostly excited by the name.

2. Erin Burnett: The third Deschanel sister is a complete delight, able to voice everything CNN viewers are feeling with just her face! I like how she’s constantly tweeting on her smartphone and can barely be bothered to look up. (Along with Wolf.) READ FULL STORY

World's oldest woman turns 116

Think you feel old? Well, the woman to your right feels a whole lot older. On Sunday, Besse Cooper celebrated her 116th birthday, making her the oldest woman in the world.

To put those many, many candles into perspective, we’ve decided to look at pop culture through the eyes of Cooper. So, if you’re feeling blue about your upcoming birthday, console yourself with the fact that you probably don’t remember the invention of the radio, movies and TV.

Cooper, on the other hand …

Snooki's top 3 tweets since becoming a mother

On early Sunday morning, the world welcomed perhaps the most anticipated child of the year. I am talking, of course, about Lorenzo Dominic LaValle, son of Jersey Shore star Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and her fiancé Jionni LaValle.

The new mom gave birth just before 3 a.m. ET on August 26, but unlike the rest of us mortals, she didn’t let a little thing like pushing out a baby keep her from Twitter. To honor her hard work, we at PopWatch decided to compile a short list of her greatest tweets since becoming a mother.

3. “Being a mom is an amazing feeling!!! I love my little man to death! Jionni is such a cute dad.”

Whew, I don’t know about you PopWatchers, but I’m glad Jionni looks good holding that baby.

5 things we'd like to see in tonight's 'Newsroom' finale

Whether you’re a dyed-in-the-wool Sorkinite or a scoffing hater, one thing’s for certain: You have a strong opinion about The Newsroom. It’s impossible to let this series play in the background as you fill in a crossword puzzle or cook dinner; The Newsroom demands attention and engagement, even if that engagement comes in the form of snarky tweets or incredulous blog posts.

And regardless of how you feel about Aaron Sorkin’s creation, you have to admit that its ability to provoke a reaction is impressive. That’s why even haters couldn’t help feeling pleased when they — okay, fine, we — saw that The Newsroom will return for a second season. Sorkin clearly has a complicated relationship with both his viewers and his critics, and it’ll be fascinating to see what effect, if any, their comments have on News Night 2.0 2.0. (News Night 4.0?)

Of course, none of these comments could have had any effect on The Newsroom‘s finale, which airs tonight at 10pm ET; the show’s first 10 episodes were in the can long before critics had a chance to sink their teeth in. Still, I can’t help but hope that the episode, ominously titled “The Greater Fool,” incorporates a few elements from my finale wish list. Here’s what I’d love to see:

Katy Perry and John Mayer split -- who should he break up with next?

Late yesterday, Us Weekly broke the news that Katy Perry and John Mayer had ended their brief, but no doubt passionate, affair. The pair were first reported to be dating in June, and were spotted “all over each other, making out” at a pool party as recently as Aug. 4. Us insisted the romance was “no summer fling,” and we all dared hope that Perry might tame Mayer’s wild heart (or at least his wild locks). Could this be a romance for the ages? Alas, it was not meant to last. (*Cue Inception horn*)

Of course, Perry is not the only victim of Mayer’s serial dating. The singer has been linked to the likes of Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jessica Simpson, Minka Kelly, Jennifer Aniston, and Taylor Swift. (Fun fact: Wikipedia has a whole section dedicated to Mayer’s torrid affairs.) Since Mayer has dated almost every eligible female in Hollywood, it makes it rather difficult to speculate on who could be next — and that much more fun! Let’s give it the old college try, PopWatchers! READ FULL STORY

'Dancing With the Stars: All-Stars' glamour shots: What's your damage?

The Dancing With the Stars promo pics for season 15 — All-Stars! — are out. This happens twice a year, and I love and hate it. LOVE because I get to create fictions about the couples based on one ridiculous photograph; HATE because 1) they’re a sign I’m about to lose my nighttime freedom in a few weeks and 2) the Planet Mirrorballus visitors are tragically not dahhhhhhncing together already.

Here’s how I ranked the couples on their chances to actually win this thing. But right now — for no reason at all other than “It’s a summer Friday” — let’s go through their press photos and determine where each couple falls on the Damages Scale from 1 (merely annoying) to 10 (bunny-boiling). And if you’re new, please keep in mind….I’m kidding! Always. READ FULL STORY

Mariah Carey gets the Nicki Minaj phone call: A very special 'American Idol' dramatization

Rumor has it that new American Idol judge Mariah Carey became infuriated and hung up the phone when producers called to tell her they were in talks with Nicki Minaj to join the season 12 judging panel. Considering a TMZ report is practically fiction, I thought I’d embellish this juicy, totally plausible storyline in the saga of No One Knows WTF Is Going On With Idol (And Do They Care?). It’s one of the summer’s most lukewarm reads!

Thanks to the video for Mimi and Nicki’s classic 2010 collaboration “Up Out My Face,” here’s how I picture this all going down…. READ FULL STORY

Drake gets very own Kentucky championship ring

For those of us that have been following closely, it’s no secret that hip hop artist Drake has had hoop dreams dating back to the Degrassi days.  And although he has long since retired the Jimmy Brooks persona, Drizzy–the title he prefers these days–has remained persistent in his quest for basketball glory.  He has been a fixture at what seems like every NBA All-Star Weekend for the past couple of years and more recently has taken a serious liking to all things University of Kentucky basketball.  In what has turned into a blue blooded blitz on Ashley Judd’s rule as Kentucky basketball celebrity superfan, Drake has done everything from coach a Wildcat intrasquad scrimmage in a famous Drake shirt to trot out members of the 2010 team (head coach John Calipari included!) onstage for a concert.

Needless to say, it looks like all those hours spent proving his loyalty to Lexington have paid off, as Coach Cal and co.–fresh off winning a national championship in April– have apparently elevated the 25 year-old Young Money rapper/singer (rapsinger?) from fan to…team member?
