Molly Ringwald reminds us not to forget about her with 'Breakfast Club' theme cover

Congratulations, Molly Ringwald — you may yet out-Franco James Franco. Over the past 12 months, the beloved Brat Pack actress has released her first novel, completed filming the final season of The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and won the Internet over with a classic Reddit AMA. Now she’s celebrating the release of her first album, a collection of jazz standards called Except Sometimes that dropped yesterday. (Yes, Ringwald sings — don’t you forget that The New Mickey Mouse Club launched her career.)

Though most of the album’s tracks wouldn’t seem out of place on a record by Ella Fitzgerald or Susannah McCorkle, there’s one outlier on there: a cover of “Don’t You (Forget About Me),” a.k.a. The Breakfast Club‘s iconic theme song. Here’s a preview of Ringwald’s version that’s been floating around for a few weeks:

Duckie gay? Jon Cryer says no way

Your inner ‘80s teenager may have been concerned earlier this week, when Molly Ringwald spoke with Out about her roles as the Brat Pack Queen, and revealed that John Hughes wrote a gay character in just about every movie he made — even if he never came right out and said so.

For Pretty in Pink, that means a second look at Duckie (played by Jon Cryer), whom Ringwald outed: “Duckie doesn’t know he’s gay,” she told the magazine. “I think he loves Andie in the way that [my gay best friend] always loved me. That [original ending, which had them together] fell so flat — it bombed at all the screenings. I didn’t realize it then — I just knew that my character shouldn’t end up with him, because we didn’t have that sort of chemistry. If John was here now, and I could talk to him, I think that he would completely acknowledge that.” READ FULL STORY

Molly Ringwald talks 'Breakfast Club' and drinking Kristen Stewart's blood in hilarious Reddit interview

Newsflash: ’80s icon Molly Ringwald is still cool. Like, really cool. The Secret Life of the American Teenager star just did an “Ask Me Anything” interview on social news site/intense Internet community Reddit, and by all accounts, it was a smashing success. Over the course of a few hours, Ringwald shared anecdotes from her John Hughes-directed heyday, proved she knows a thing or two about the site’s unique memes, and poked fun at Woody Harrelson, whose own AMA interview went disastrously wrong this past February.

Ringwald doesn’t have a project to promote; Secret Life is in the middle of its fourth season, and though she’s working on a jazz album, it won’t be released until next spring. Maybe that’s why she was so loose and funny on Reddit. Here, for example, is how she responded when a user asked about her famous Breakfast Club lipstick trick:
