Though she is only five months pregnant, speculation has already begun on who will take over for Savannah Guthrie during her maternity leave from The Today Show. The Daily News reported that both Katie Couric and Meredith Vieira are being eyed to return to their old desk positions next to Matt Lauer, but since they each have their own separate projects in the works for Yahoo and NBC, respectively, it seems unlikely they would commit to another (though temporary) full-time gig. While I don’t think Ann Curry should be sitting by her phone any time soon, below are some morning people who could get the wake up call when Guthrie is expected to take a leave later this summer. Remember a few days ago when Martha Stewart jokingly said she might want to begin online dating?
Well, the Internet took that and ran with it, and now, it seems, Stewart is 100% interested in meeting guys online. The Facebook page for the magazine Martha Stewart Living has just released two dueling photos of the domestic icon, and have announced fans can vote on which look they prefer. The winning image will be her actual Match.com profile picture. READ FULL STORY
Bad news for men aged 65-80 in the New York metropolitan area: Though 71-year-old domestic goddess Martha Stewart apparently considered joining Match.com recently, she never fully took the plunge.
“I had a longtime boyfriend. That ended a couple of years ago. I haven’t found the next Mr. Right,” Stewart told Matt Lauer during a Today show interview that will air next week. “I was even thinking of going on Match.com!” Even more surprisingly, Stewart said that she wasn’t planning to use an alias or a misleading photo on the site — “I want to do my real thing,” she explained. Anyone else think this sounds like the premise of an upcoming Nancy Meyers movie? (Naturally, Martha’s played by Diane Keaton.)
Starting the day with eggs from Martha Stewart’s Bedford, N.Y., farm? Now that‘s a good thing. To preview her upcoming Cooking School, the domestic mogul hosted an intimate demonstration at her New York City HQ today.
Entering the event, I must admit that I feared even putting myself in the sightline of La Stewart would send me into a tizzy akin to Ellen DeGeneres in her hilariously chaotic 1995 Thanksgiving episode of Ellen. Then came the aforementioned eggs, the homemade jams (blueberry, raspberry, and cherry), and the caramelized grapefruit (with a candied blood orange garnish — obviously)… and let’s just say Martha knows that the way to ease the nerves is through a glorious food coma. Martha Stewart probably doesn’t think this is a Good Thing.
According to Forbes, model Kathy Ireland — who appeared on three Sports Illustrated covers and in 13 consecutive swimsuit issues during the 1980s and ’90s — is worth an estimated $300 to $350 million via her product marketing company, Kathy Ireland Worldwide, and CelebrityNetWorth.com now lists her as the world’s richest supermodel-entrepreneur. If looks could kill, anyone that tuned into The Today Show this morning probably would have been dead by breakfast. Martha Stewart‘s daughter Alexis, alongside her former collaborator and friend Jennifer Koppelman-Hutt, visited the program to promote their book Whateverland and, apparently, make everyone terribly, terribly uncomfortable. When asked if the book — in which Stewart writes, among other things, that she felt as though she had “a glue gun pointed at my head” growing up with a famous mom — is an attack on her mother, the author simply stated, “It’s not a book about my mother. It’s a book about growing up and learning to live with what happened or didn’t happen.” (For the record, on her own show, Martha referred to the book as “hilarious” and “enlightening.”)
But it wasn’t the icy responses to the questions about Martha that would have made even David Brent uncomfortable and Nina Garcia cower in fear: It was the interaction between Stewart and Koppelman-Hutt, who have “broken up” since writing the book and working on their radio show together. Some of Stewart’s gems: “If you want to punish somebody, never talking to them again is a really good method,” “Some people are very clingy and some people like to be by themselves,” and “I’m very close to my mother, but not a single other person in my family.” (In case you were wondering, Koppelman-Hutt is very close to her entire family.) If you can handle it, watch the entire awkward clip below. READ FULL STORY
Why was there a skull perched in the background on The Martha Stewart Show yesterday? Inquiring minds want to know! Evidence of the dark arts? A shoutout to her favorite Joshua Jackson vehicle? Or is this just what happens to Martha’s enemies? So I asked a rep for the show, and she told me the spooky, frightening truth behind Omnimedia’s very own memento mori: READ FULL STORY

so hot right now. Forbes unveiled its “Power Women” list yesterday, ranking the 100 most powerful women in the world. Coming in in the top slot: Michelle Obama. Oprah was ranked at No. 3, Lady Gaga at No. 7, Beyoncé at No. 9, and Ellen DeGeneres at No. 10. That puts them all ahead of Nancy Pelosi (No. 11), Sonia Sotomayor (No. 19), and the heads of state of Australia (No. 58), Finland (No. 62), Ireland (No. 64), Argentina (No. 68), Iceland (No. 80), Costa Rica (No. 83), and Liberia (No. 86). I was a little surprised to see Sarah Palin outrank Queen Elizabeth — 16 to 41! — but okay.Power rankings — they’re
Beyond the top 10, the entertainment and television news industries are really well represented: Angelina Jolie (No. 21), Katie Couric (No. 22), Madonna (No. 29), Chelsea Handler (No. 33), Heidi Klum (No. 39), Meredith Vieira (No. 40), Sarah Jessica Parker (No. 45), Diane Sawyer (No. 46), Stephenie Meyer (No. 49), Rachel Maddow (No. 50), Suze Orman (No. 61), Gisele Bundchen (No. 72), Rachael Ray (No. 78), and Martha Stewart (No. 99, just squeaked by) all made the cut.
The full list is here, and it’s actually a pretty interesting read. (And when you’re finished scanning the list, check out a teaser for EW’s own Power List, in this week’s issue.) Who do you think they missed, PopWatchers?
