President Obama's opinion on Nicki Minaj vs. Mariah Carey is revealed at last

Stop pretending, America. You can pay lip service to topics like the economy, Iran, and Medicare ’til the cows come home — but we all know that what you really want is for both presidential candidates to weigh in on Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey’s feud.

The hard truth: Mitt Romney has been too busy rhapsodizing about Snooki to voice his opinion on this crucial question. Romney’s opponent, however, has tackled it head-on.

The president recently called into a local Miami radio show and spent nearly nine minutes gabbing with host Michael Yo about hard-hitting issues — how great Florida is, whether Joe Biden would ever shave his head, the usual. But the most important question came at the interview’s very beginning: “There’s an elephant in the room,” Yo said gravely. “A lot of people are upset, but: Can you repair the relationship with Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj on American Idol?”

Finally, some substance! Obama answered without even hesitating:  READ FULL STORY »

Stevie Nicks has harsh words for Nicki Minaj, apologizes for her remarks

Think Stevie Nicks is as gentle and soft as one of her ethereal shawls? Think again. Fleetwood Mac’s ex-frontwoman is rock royalty — and she’s not afraid to lay a verbal smackdown on someone who hasn’t paid her dues. Update: Nicks has apologized for the remarks she made about Minaj — see her full statement below.

Nicks had some choice words for Nicki Minaj after hearing about the rapper’s fight with Mariah Carey on the set of American Idol. “How dare this little girl!” she told The Daily – Minaj is in her late 20s; Nicks is 64 — adding, “If I had been Mariah, I would have walked over to Nicki and strangled her to death right there.” READ FULL STORY »

Assessing the new 'American Idol' judges: Who will be mean? Nice? Crazy? Useless?

AMERICAN-IDOL-JUDGES

Now that American Idol‘s season 12 judges have officially been announced — Mariah Carey, Keith Urban, and Nicki Minaj, joining Idol lifer Randy Jackson — the nation can finally turn from wildly speculating over who will step into the judges’ table to wildly speculating over how much of the show’s budget this season will be spent on wigs. Also: How will the eighth, ninth, and tenth judges in the show’s history fare when attempting to deliver quippy criticism to wannabe singers who weren’t alive when Carey’s first through fifth albums were released?

Who will be the “mean” one? The “nice” one? The “crazy” one? The “useless” one? Who’s most likely to spontaneously cry? To spontaneously dance? To provide thoughtful, constructive feedback that is both honest and entertaining to hear? (It could happen!) We will have to wait until January to see them all in action, but based on the judges’ personas and Idol history, here’s our best assessment of Idol 4.0: READ FULL STORY »

Mariah Carey gets the Nicki Minaj phone call: A very special 'American Idol' dramatization

Rumor has it that new American Idol judge Mariah Carey became infuriated and hung up the phone when producers called to tell her they were in talks with Nicki Minaj to join the season 12 judging panel. Considering a TMZ report is practically fiction, I thought I’d embellish this juicy, totally plausible storyline in the saga of No One Knows WTF Is Going On With Idol (And Do They Care?). It’s one of the summer’s most lukewarm reads!

Thanks to the video for Mimi and Nicki’s classic 2010 collaboration “Up Out My Face,” here’s how I picture this all going down…. READ FULL STORY »

Snoop Dogg wants in on 'Idol.' Which prospective judges get your vote?

American Idol‘s next season could feature both a dawg and a Dogg — er, Lion. According to the AP, a certain recently renamed rapper would love to join Fox’s biggest reality show: “I’ll do American Idol,” Snoop said in an interview this week.

A healthy infusion of Doggy Fizzle Televizzle could be just what AI needs to shake things up — but before The Doggfather secures his spot, he’ll have to beat out some pretty fierce competition.

Plenty of names have been tossed around in the press as potential Idol additions, including Nick Jonas, Pharrell Williams (reportedly Mariah‘s top choice), and Brad Paisley. READ FULL STORY »

Nick Cannon called in to The Howard Stern Show this morning as he simulcasted his own radio show. The two entertainers, who are teaming up on the next season of America’s Got Talent, talked about everything from Cannon’s recent health scare to the upcoming season of AGT. Cannon had some harsh words for former Talent judge Piers Morgan, whom Stern is replacing, and some TMI about his sexual experience with wife Mariah Carey, Lindsay Lohan, and Kim Kardashian. All I want for Christmas is more videos like these two. Internet, will you accept that challenge?

I already know this is going to be a very, very good Christmas. How can I be so certain? Because any holiday season that includes a viral video in which dancers Alex Karigan and Zac Hammer expertly shimmy and prance to Mariah Carey’s best-Christmas-pop-song-ever ”All I Want For Christmas” — all off it shot Bob Fosse style in one continuous take — is already a thoroughly happy holiday season indeed. From their Santa red unitards to their knee-high Christmas stockings, this is just absolutely perfect. Watch, and enjoy:  READ FULL STORY »

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon let Barbara Walters ogle their babies on '20/20'

Though they’ve been married for over three years now, it’s still a little bit difficult to believe that Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are an actual couple. Perhaps it was the lack of public courtship or the sudden nature of their wedding, but there’s still a moment of, “Oh right, they’re married” every time they’re brought up.

On top of that, they’ve procreated! In fact, twins Morocco and Monroe (who are nicknamed, no joke, “Rock” and “Roe”) made their television debut last night on ABC’s 20/20. Barbara Walters sat the couple down and tilted her head just so for a gauzy chat that touched on Carey’s extremely difficult pregnancy (a high-risk one that featured a number of false labors and the development of gestational diabetes), what the babies heard while they were in utero (Carey described a special device that she wrapped around her abdomen so her twin fetuses could hear Stevie Wonder songs and “Hero”). Tony Bennett still has it. Who else?

Tony-Bennett

The casual music fan who watched this season’s American Idol finale and saw Tony Bennett, who turns 85 next month, dueting with Haley Reinhart knows Bennett is still going strong, but you can’t really appreciate how amazing he sounds until you see him live. I caught a show recently, and he’s the first singer to ever make me tear up twice in the same song (“Maybe This Time”). After 60 years in the business, his voice is still powerful and he’s made holding a mic into an art form — he knows precisely how the distance from his mouth will affect not only the volume but the mood. I love it when he drops the mic by his side and the sound is faint, intimate, and pure.  READ FULL STORY »
