Mariah vs. Nicki: Who won the first round of the Great 'American Idol' Diva-Off? POLL

In this corner, daaaahhhhling, we have five-time Grammy winner (and 34-time nominee, whoa) Mariah Carey: the best selling female artist of all time, the custodian of a famous five-octave range, a lovable nut who doesn’t really exercise while wearing five-inch heels but does really flip out if photographed or filmed from her “bad” left side.

And in this corner, speaking in a fake British accent for some reason, there’s brash young upstart Nicki Minaj: a rapper/singer who once boasted of earning $50,000 for a guest verse even before her album was released, a wearer of assorted ridiculata, and the winner of zero Grammys so far, though she’s racked up four nominations since 2011.

Both had their claws out as soon as American Idol‘s season premiere began last night. READ FULL STORY

'American Idol': Your thoughts on the premiere of 'The Nicki Minaj Show'?

Update: Annie’s recap is live

It’s no wonder a camera “just happened” to capture the now infamous Nicki Minaj vs. Mariah Carey brawl — after watching the two-hour season 12 premiere, it’s clear the two new American Idol judges can’t stand each other. This is never going to change, and it’s super uncomfortable to watch because both women are acting like they’re 5. Instead of coolly rising above their differences (when in actuality: THEY’RE THE SAME), they talk over each other until eventually Minaj wins because she’s simply louder and more obnoxious. At one point, Minaj plastered on one of her 31 flavors of fake smile and monotoned “She’s a bitch she’s a bitch she’s a bitch” ad nauseum. How many people are tuning in to a singing competition to see something like this? I’m guessing one — and she’s pictured above, mimicking how the majority of viewers probably looked while they watched her. READ FULL STORY

Nicki Minaj explains Mariah Carey feud to Jay Leno -- VIDEO

Genial talk show host Jay Leno and aggressively odd rapper Nicki Minaj seem like they have approximately nothing in common. But on The Tonight Show yesterday, the two realized that they actually do share something: They’ve both been involved in high-profile celebrity feuds.

Yes, says Minaj, the animosity between her and fellow new American Idol judge Mariah Carey isn’t trumped up for the cameras: “It definitely isn’t a fake feud.” According to her, the fighting began as simple joking around before taking a turn for the real (maybe around the same time Nicki cursed out Mariah in North Carolina). “We’re both passionate, and both crazy, and we’re both, you know,” Minaj helpfully explained to Leno, adding, “and then sometimes it just goes ‘rawrr!’”

Mariah Carey talks Nicki Minaj feud: 'I did hire more security' -- VIDEO

So, just how much do Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj actually despise each other? We won’t be able to judge that for ourselves until American Idol‘s 12th season premieres next week — but in the meantime, there’s Carey’s new interview with Barbara Walters, which touches on the Mariah/Nicki feud.

A brief recap of the conflict: Mariah Carey had a vision of love — and a vision of herself as American Idol‘s only female judge. So when Fox invited Nicki Minaj to serve on the show’s new judging panel as well, there was some immediate friction between the two musicians — although both Carey and Minaj rejected rumors of bad blood. (“How can you feud in two days?” Carey joked shortly after the judging panel was made official. “I think a feud takes a little longer [to build.”)

Then TMZ released a video of Nicki cursing out Mariah during an Idol audition in North Carolina. Walters discussed the explosive clip on The View, saying that Carey had told her things got even more heated once the cameras were off. Specifically: Minaj supposedly said, “If I had a gun, I would shoot that f—ing bitch.” Mariah responded by reportedly hiring extra security. President Obama and Stevie Nicks got involved. Nicki accused Walters of taking Mariah’s side “because I’m a little black girl that raps.” It was, in sort, a Class-A fustercluck.

President Obama's opinion on Nicki Minaj vs. Mariah Carey is revealed at last

Stop pretending, America. You can pay lip service to topics like the economy, Iran, and Medicare ’til the cows come home — but we all know that what you really want is for both presidential candidates to weigh in on Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey’s feud.

The hard truth: Mitt Romney has been too busy rhapsodizing about Snooki to voice his opinion on this crucial question. Romney’s opponent, however, has tackled it head-on.

The president recently called into a local Miami radio show and spent nearly nine minutes gabbing with host Michael Yo about hard-hitting issues — how great Florida is, whether Joe Biden would ever shave his head, the usual. But the most important question came at the interview’s very beginning: “There’s an elephant in the room,” Yo said gravely. “A lot of people are upset, but: Can you repair the relationship with Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj on American Idol?”

Finally, some substance! Obama answered without even hesitating:  READ FULL STORY

Stevie Nicks has harsh words for Nicki Minaj, apologizes for her remarks

Think Stevie Nicks is as gentle and soft as one of her ethereal shawls? Think again. Fleetwood Mac’s ex-frontwoman is rock royalty — and she’s not afraid to lay a verbal smackdown on someone who hasn’t paid her dues. Update: Nicks has apologized for the remarks she made about Minaj — see her full statement below.

Nicks had some choice words for Nicki Minaj after hearing about the rapper’s fight with Mariah Carey on the set of American Idol. “How dare this little girl!” she told The Daily – Minaj is in her late 20s; Nicks is 64 — adding, “If I had been Mariah, I would have walked over to Nicki and strangled her to death right there.” READ FULL STORY

Assessing the new 'American Idol' judges: Who will be mean? Nice? Crazy? Useless?

Now that American Idol‘s season 12 judges have officially been announced — Mariah Carey, Keith Urban, and Nicki Minaj, joining Idol lifer Randy Jackson — the nation can finally turn from wildly speculating over who will step into the judges’ table to wildly speculating over how much of the show’s budget this season will be spent on wigs. Also: How will the eighth, ninth, and tenth judges in the show’s history fare when attempting to deliver quippy criticism to wannabe singers who weren’t alive when Carey’s first through fifth albums were released?

Who will be the “mean” one? The “nice” one? The “crazy” one? The “useless” one? Who’s most likely to spontaneously cry? To spontaneously dance? To provide thoughtful, constructive feedback that is both honest and entertaining to hear? (It could happen!) We will have to wait until January to see them all in action, but based on the judges’ personas and Idol history, here’s our best assessment of Idol 4.0: READ FULL STORY

Mariah Carey gets the Nicki Minaj phone call: A very special 'American Idol' dramatization

Rumor has it that new American Idol judge Mariah Carey became infuriated and hung up the phone when producers called to tell her they were in talks with Nicki Minaj to join the season 12 judging panel. Considering a TMZ report is practically fiction, I thought I’d embellish this juicy, totally plausible storyline in the saga of No One Knows WTF Is Going On With Idol (And Do They Care?). It’s one of the summer’s most lukewarm reads!

Thanks to the video for Mimi and Nicki’s classic 2010 collaboration “Up Out My Face,” here’s how I picture this all going down…. READ FULL STORY

Snoop Dogg wants in on 'Idol.' Which prospective judges get your vote?

American Idol‘s next season could feature both a dawg and a Dogg — er, Lion. According to the AP, a certain recently renamed rapper would love to join Fox’s biggest reality show: “I’ll do American Idol,” Snoop said in an interview this week.

A healthy infusion of Doggy Fizzle Televizzle could be just what AI needs to shake things up — but before The Doggfather secures his spot, he’ll have to beat out some pretty fierce competition.

Plenty of names have been tossed around in the press as potential Idol additions, including Nick Jonas, Pharrell Williams (reportedly Mariah‘s top choice), and Brad Paisley. READ FULL STORY
