Which Gaga will we get on 'SNL'? Let's go to the videotape

Whether she’s onstage or off, Lady Gaga clearly knows how to put on a show. But when it comes to Saturday Night Live, her experience is surprisingly limited. The artist formerly known as Stefani Germanotta has appeared on just two episodes of SNL, in 2009 and 2011 — both times as the show’s musical guest rather than its host.

Still, looking at those old episodes may give a few hints about what to expect when Gaga finally headlines an entire installment of SNL tomorrow night. In each one, Gaga ventured beyond her band to appear in a handful of sketches — showing off different skills (and, er, areas with room for improvement) every time. Which of these sub-Gagas will rule Studio 8H on Saturday’s show? Let’s look at the evidence and start speculating:

Lady Gaga plays it fairly straight in 'Saturday Night Live' promos -- VIDEO

Let’s have a round of applause for Understated Gaga!

Sure, “understated” in this case still involves a glittery halter gown, over-the-elbow black gloves, and a Vegas-style headpiece that looks straight out of Showgirls. That said, if this weekend’s Lady Gaga-led episode of SNL is anything like these new promos, it’ll be less “Arcade Fire-style fever dream” than “quirky Drama Club president puts on a show.” Which should be a good thing! After all, we always have fun when Anne Hathaway hosts, don’t we?

Lady Gaga redesigns 'USA Today' logo with artist Jeff Koons

Lady Gaga is lending some of her artistic eye and star power to USA Today‘s pages in advance of the singer’s new album, ARTPOP.

USA Today says a logo featuring an image of a statue of the pop provocateur will appear in Monday’s editions of the newspaper’s LIFE section.

The newspaper says Lady Gaga is the first guest contributor to design a logo for the newspaper.

The logo was designed in collaboration with the performer and artist Jeff Koons, who designed Lady Gaga’s cover art for ARTPOP, due out Tuesday. The album is Lady Gaga’s third.

Who said it? 'ARTPOP' creator Lady Gaga or Pop Art creator Andy Warhol? QUIZ

Andy Warhol once said that in the future, we’d all be famous for 15 minutes – but then, the man that popularized Pop art never met pop provocateur Lady Gaga, who’s coming up on five years in the pop culture spotlight.

It’s no secret that the singer takes many cues from Warhol (and is openly a huge fan of his); nowhere is this admiration more on display than her fourth album, titled ARTPOP.

Gaga has said of the title, “For ARTPOP, I instantly had an initial cosmetic experience with words, so I spent some time reflecting on exactly what it is that I wanted to say. When I’m thinking about the title for an album, I think about the marketing, I think about the cultural implication of the words, what the words mean. How the words will change the meaning after the music has been put out as well as the visuals. I spent some time and I kept seeing those two words, “art” and “pop,” put together in a reverse way, instead of Pop Art, which is the way I had always seen it. And then quite quickly, the more work that I did, ARTPOP became something that had a nice ring, you know?”

The Pop Art/ARTPOP similarities don’t end there. Take our quiz below and guess which quotes belong to the woman behind ARTPOP and which belong to the man behind Pop Art. READ FULL STORY

This week's cover: Inside the wild world of Katy Perry

What does it means to be the biggest pop star on the planet in 2013?

In this week’s cover story, Katy Perry gave EW an all-access pass to her crazy world (spoiler alert: we saw her boobs), as we spent a week criss-crossing the globe with her from L.A. to London, Berlin, and New York.

“You’re gonna see all different kinds of things,” Perry warned in L.A. at the outset of our trip. And she wasn’t kidding: Closing out the mammoth iTunes Festival. Sipping champagne with a giant German gentleman with bedazzled eyebrows named Bubbles (he’s a member of the superfan contingent known as Katycats). Late-night tea in a London hotel lobby with a rock icon. Twitter accounts named after her breasts. Near-constant jet lag. Being Katy Perry (or even just being her plus-one) is an exhausting, exhilarating ride.

Lady Gaga outdoes herself in new crazy outfits -- PHOTOS

It’s Lady Gaga’s Wonder Emporium.

The singer is ramping up promotion for her new album Artpop (dropping Nov. 11) and that means in addition to traveling the world — she’s debuting a new song off Artpop in each country she visits — she also found the time to take a few Instagram selfies in hotel rooms.

The over-the-top photos, see below, represent a bit more dramatic look than Gaga has debuted in a while. While over the past year, her outfits have seemed comparatively toned down — like her all-white ensemble at Good Morning America —  she now seems to be craving the attention, err, applause, that only a naked photo with mustache can bring. The VMAs seating chart pairs Lady Gaga with Katy Perry: We imagine their conversation (or lack thereof) and more

After seeing a few photos and a video of the seating chart for this Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards, we couldn’t help but dream of the music-video awards show’s riff on a high school cafeteria. For one, dueling divas Lady Gaga and Katy Perry will sit in forced proximity throughout the three-hour event. Below, we consider five of the most potentially awkward-yet-entertaining possibilities.

NSFW: Lady Gaga bares it all for 'The Abramovic Method' -- VIDEO

Lady-Gaga-Abramovic-Method.jpg

Lady Gaga isn’t exactly one to shy away from what others might consider “strange.” And neither is performance artist Marina Abramovic, who recently conducted a soul-to-soul transfer with Jay Z.

Yet amazingly, Gaga has managed to out-weird herself in a new video. As part of a Kickstarter campaign for Abramovic’s ongoing project The Abramovic Method, Gaga meditates, hums, strips down and gets covered by crystals in order to “develop skills for observing long durational performances through a series of exercises and environments designed to increase awareness of their physical and mental experience in the moment,” according to its website.

Lady Gaga regains title as 'Forbes' top-earning celeb under 30

Regardless of how beautiful or dirty Lady Gaga is, she is definitely rich. Forbes released the list of “The Top-Earning Celebrities Under 30″ with the pop singer reigning supreme at No. 1. Despite canceling the rest of her Born This Way Ball to undergo hip surgery, the 27-year-old performer earned an estimated $80 million from June 2012 to June 2013.

The list — which does not account for taxes, agent fees, or other related costs — includes mostly female celebrities. Nevertheless, 19-year-old pop star and rabble-rouser Justin Bieber takes second place with an estimated $58 million. Taylor Swift, Calvin Harris, and Rihanna round out the top five, earning an estimated $55 million, $46 million, and $43 million, respectively. Jennifer Lawrence is the top-earning actor/actress under 30, raking in an estimated $26 million.

Last year, Swift was crowned as the top-earner on the list with a massive world tour, continued sales on her album Speak Now, two Grammy wins, and a CoverGirl endorsement deal. This year, Gaga took over with her cut-short (but still high-earning) tour, which grossed $168 million through January 2013. She also topped the list in 2011, having brought in an estimated $90 million. With her new album, ARTPOP, to be released this November, will the Queen Monster keep her throne atop next year’s Forbes list?
