Korean dramas: A beginner's guide

Why are more and more Americans falling under the sudsy spell of South Korean dramas? One theory: These shows tend to come in self-contained 16- to 20-episode seasons, making them easily digestible. Another: If you don’t speak Korean, watching one demands your full attention (subtitles!), meaning you get sucked in that much more quickly.

And then there are the dramas themselves — endearingly theatrical and kooky, with a sweetness that can be tough to find in grittier American fare. “Their portrayal of love is a little more PG,” says Jacqueline Sia, senior content manager of massive international TV library DramaFever. “Korean dramas can spend 16 episodes getting to the point where the leads kiss.”

Even North Korea can't resist 'Gangnam Style'

North Korea and South Korea have been divided since World War II. But even these opposing nations — which are technically still at war, since they never signed a formal peace treaty — can unite over one thing: Their love of “Gangnam Style.”

Well, sort of. CNN writes that a North Korean government website now features a video that pokes fun at South Korean presidential candidate Park Geun-hye. The clip begins with an image of Park’s face Photoshopped onto the body of a figure doing rapper Psy’s signature horse-riding dance. The picture is followed by a mocking photo montage set to a jaunty big band tune.  READ FULL STORY

YouTube sensation Psy teaches Britney Spears 'Gangnam Style' -- VIDEO

Even a hitmaker like Britney Spears isn’t immune to the wacky allure of Psy’s “Gangnam Style.” Spears is on record as a fan of the Korean star’s catchy tune and sick dance moves — something that Ellen DeGeneres didn’t miss when the new X Factor judge visited Ellen yesterday afternoon. (Side note: Remember when Ellen was an American Idol judge?)

Soon enough, the host pulled out Psy himself, who proceeded to teach Ellen and Britney how to Dougie the finer points of Gangnam Style. The main takeaway: “Dress classy, and dance cheesy.” Done and done!

By gamely dancing along, Spears proved that she still knows how to move — even in five-inch heels. Check her out:
