Eddie Murphy tops Forbes list of most overpaid actors

I bet Eddie Murphy would like to trade places with another actor right about now.

The Saturday Night Live alum tops Forbes‘ list of the year’s most overpaid actors again, followed by newcomer Katherine Heigl and Oscar winners Reese Witherspoon and Sandra Bullock (say it isn’t so!). Murphy’s earning power has steadily declined since his string of ’80s hits, including Trading Places and Beverly Hills Cop. His voice work in Shrek and Mulan and family-friendly roles in Norbit and Dr. Dolittle left him in good standing, but his recent films, Imagine That, A Thousand Words, Meet Dave, and Tower Heist, flopped at the box office. Forbes calculates that for every dollar Murphy was paid for his last three films, they returned an average of $2.30 at the box office.

PopWatchers, we know you don’t need to know that Katherine Heigl has a horse named Jean Harlow (and another named Ronnie!)? But like us, you want to. 

Here are a few more things we learned about Heigl from her cover story in January’s ELLE:

  • Heigl is old-fashioned (“she demanded to know [husband Josh Kelley's] intentions” when they started dating), but she also picked out her own engagement ring (not all bling is created equal, ladies)
  • She was briefly raised Mormon but is now lapsed
  • Since kicking the cigs, she is emphatic about her electronic cigarette
  • When she was a child, her mother threatened to send her to a convent in the Swiss Alps if she misbehaved

If you’ve always sort of suspected that Katherine Heigl has simply been out to take away a piece of your manhood, your theory has turned out to be somewhat true. Heigl is most definitely out to break your balls. And, no it’s not, as one might have guessed, because of Life As We Know It, 27 Dresses, or The Ugly Truth. In actuality, it’s because the actress really, truly despises testicles. Terrible, terrible testicles.

In her hilarious FunnyOrDie animal rights PSA, Heigl explains that her promotion to spay and neuter pets through the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation isn’t so much rooted in her love for dogs, but that balls — jiggly, Muppet-like, Hitler-producing balls — really gross her out. So, while she “can’t cut the nuts of human men… yet,” Heigl is still doing her part to rid the world of those pesky thigh-knockers. I happened to catch the High School Musical spin-off Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure while watching a friend’s kid sister last weekend, and I have to say, once and for all, that I’m totally and completely over Disney Channel Original Movies… and it’s about time. Even toward the end of what I consider the Golden Era of Disney Originals — starting in 1999 with Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century and coming to a screeching halt in 2003 with The Even Stevens Movie – I was probably a little too old to be watching them. I remember joking about the latest cheesy DOMP (Disney Original Motion Picture… I know that’s not what they’re actually called) in Geometry class even while loving every minute of it. Vanity Fair's Top 40 Hollywood earners include zero of this year's Oscar acting nominees: Are we surprised?

Johnny Depp comes in at No. 2 with an estimated $100 million comprised primarily of his paychecks for Alice in Wonderland, the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film, and The Tourist. Happy birthday to my BFF Judy Greer!

Judy-GreerImage Credit: Koi Sojer/PR PhotosI realize this headline might be a little misleading. I have never met or spoken to Judy Greer. Subsequently, she is not my real BFF. (That would be my friend Whitney. Hi, Whit!) But I feel like Judy’s at least in my close circle of friends. You know, close enough to be on a first name basis. I attribute most of this to her role as Penny in The Wedding Planner — I wanted her to be my awkward best friend helping me through my non-existent romantic comedy shenanigans. Then, she played best pal yet again in the Katherine Heigl rom-com 27 Dresses, but this time, she was a littler darker…and I liked her ever more: “I know my moral compass doesn’t exactly point due north, but if I say something’s wrong, something’s wrong.” And in 13 Going on 30, Greer played the bad-mouthing Lucy, a not-so-great friend to Jennifer Garner, but I still liked her. And let’s not forget crazy Kitty Sanchez from Arrested Development. Need I say more? (Most recently, I got my Greer fix when she tried to woo Phil Dunphy in Modern Family. Wonderfully funny.)

So, today, on her birthday, I want to celebrate the fact that Greer, for once, will be given the opportunity to shine on her own, in the upcoming Mad Love. READ FULL STORY »

Katherine Heigl watch: She started not liking Izzie ... did you?

Katherine-HeiglImage Credit: Ron Tom/ABCOne minute she’s submitting herself for Emmy consideration despite appearing in less than half of the last Grey’s Anatomy season, the next minute she’s telling the world she wasn’t so fond of her character, Izzie Stevens, by the time she left the hit drama. “I felt very protective of Izzie,” she told USA Today. “I really loved her. I felt she was an admirable woman who certainly made mistakes. But I was starting to not like her, and that bothered me.” That Katherine Heigl — there really is no telling what polarizing thing she’s going to say or do next. Though at least she’s self-aware: “I’ve tried to keep my mouth closed for a minute, and I can’t,” Heigl told the newspaper. “At one point I got so paranoid and afraid, and I was qualifying everything I said and apologizing for everything. I realized it was ridiculous.”

Fair enough. Nothing wrong with speaking your mind. I’m going to respectfully disagree with her, however, on Izzie’s non-likability. And to be honest, I’m a little surprised to find myself defending Dr. Stevens — my first instinct was that I, too, hated her, but it turns out that upon reflection, I just hated her storylines.
