'Saturday Night Live': And this year's overall MVP is...

… Kate McKinnon. Which should come as no surprise, whether you faithfully watched each of season 39′s episodes or only caught a few of its sketches online.

Let’s back up. Each week in our SNL recaps, EW’s writers have selected one cast MVP — the featured or repertory player who made the best individual impression in that Saturday’s episode. Sometimes those MVP slots were shared between two cast members; sometimes, as in this season’s premiere, we cited both a New Cast MVP and an Old Cast MVP, just to spread the wealth around. Because our recaps are written by different staffers with different preferences, the system’s a little less biased than it would be if the same person had chosen an MVP each week — meaning that the season’s overall winner has plenty of broad appeal, at least among the enormous subset of the population that is EW SNL recappers.

That said: The contest wasn’t even close. READ FULL STORY

Lena Dunham's 'SNL' promos: Only one nudity joke! -- VIDEO

Progress?

I’m going to say yes. First of all, the joke isn’t, “Hey Lena, why do you be so naked?” Secondly, the naked person in question is actually Dunham’s promo partner Kate McKinnon, which means that the Girls creator/producer/writer/star gets to have the upper hand instead of being the punchline. And thirdly, the bit includes a line about how McKinnon should probably take a trip to “the shirt store.”

All in all, jokes like this bode well for Dunham’s debut episode as SNL host — as do a few more amusing bits from the promos, like Dunham and McKinnon doing the “two young feminists” dance and Dunham’s deadpan assessment of McKinnon’s outfit (“She looks like a slut witch”). Grab a cupcake, settle into the bathtub, and check out the clips below:

Ellen DeGeneres faces her 'SNL' impersonator, Kate McKinnon, and it's awesome -- VIDEO

Kate McKinnon’s perfect impression of Ellen DeGeneres has been a major highlight of this season of Saturday Night Live. So, when McKinnon stopped by Ellen, DeGeneres couldn’t pass up the opportunity to meet her doppelganger.  Ellen handed McKinnon a new outfit and had her come back out in character.

”I will treasure this forever!” McKinnon gushed as she hurried offstage to put on her Ellen costume. When she returned later, the audience was treated to dancing (McKinnon can really get down) and chair squirming.

”I’m vegan… I’m just kidding. I’m Ellen,” McKinnon joked to huge applause. Our only question is: why did they give McKinnon jeans with a huge hole in them?

Ellen responds to 'SNL' spoof: 'I didn't like it. Just kidding, I like everything!' -- VIDEO

Ten points for self-awareness! Ellen DeGeneres was predictably gracious earlier this week when she addressed Saturday Night Live‘s recent spoof of her show, complimenting her impersonator Kate McKinnon and even imitating McKinnon’s imitation: “I didn’t like it. I’m just kidding, I’m Ellen! I like everything!” It’s nice-ception! Then again, it’s not like there was much in that sketch that DeGeneres could object to; “Ellen is genial and dances a lot” isn’t exactly incendiary.

Ellen also discussed the SNL bit with two of her guests, pint-sized Nicki Minaj fan Sophia Grace and her “hype girl” Rosie — both of whom were also lampooned on the sketch show. Hammy Sophia said that she thought Saturday Night Live‘s sendup of her was “brilliant,” though it would have been even “bettah” — don’t you love kids with British accents? — if impressionists Nasim Pedrad and Vanessa Bayer had shrunk a little. And for once, reticent Rosie had something to add to the conversation: “If she [Pedrad] wants to get like me, she should get more dahnces.”

Watch the videos below to get your daily dose of good vibes, though the second is kind of a cute overload.
