Though Harold Camping turned out to be wrong — twice! — 2011 wasn’t a banner year for humanity. Just look at the most-searched online terms, according to Bing: Hurricane Irene (No. 3 Most Searched News Story), Japan earthquake (No. 4), Amy Winehouse’s death (No. 5). Sitting at No. 1 is no surprise to Nancy Grace: the Casey Anthony trial. It really can’t compete with natural disasters for true tragedy, but if you’re in the mood to lament our civilization, you can’t really do better than our universal obsession with the Anthony trial.

If there’s a silver lining, it’s that we cared much less about Kate Gosselin and Jesse James this year compared to 2010. Of course, they were replaced on the Most Searched Person list by Lindsay Lohan and Megan Fox. (Megan Fox? Really? In 2011?) READ FULL STORY »

Selena Gomez talks Justin Bieber, and her inability to get him to pull up his pants

In an interview airing today on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Selena Gomez admits dealing with that paternity suit filed against her boyfriend Justin Bieber was crazy “to say the least,” but Ellen doesn’t stop there with the sensitive questions. “I think you have influence, and I think you can tell him to pull his pants up,” DeGeneres says to applause. “I really can’t,” Gomez answers. “I’ve told him I don’t get it.” What does he say then? “He laughs,” Gomez says. Ellen also asks what Selena does to compete with Justin’s grand romantic gestures — like renting out the Staples Center for a dinner date. “My favorite is that mine don’t get out,” she says. (Good answer!) “That’s my favorite. Kathy Griffin channels Jim Carrey, tells Justin Bieber he's 'all the way beautiful' with his 'lesbian bangs'

Taking a page from creepy cute no, definitely creepy Jim Carrey, who professed his love for the much-younger Emma Stone in a video earlier this week, Kathy Griffin has decided to make public her illegal affection for 17-year-old Canadian treasure Justin Bieber. “Justin Bieber,” said the comedienne, “I want you to know that you are all the way beautiful. Even with those, like, lesbian bangs.”

Unfortunately, since Griffin is 29, 39, 49, 50 and has lines “under my ass even,” she cannot marry the teen sensation, in most states, that is. “If I could, I would marry you,” Griffin tells Bieber. “Oh, that’s actually not true. It’s messy, Justin. There’s a distribution of assets. We would just go steady.” (You sure it’s not worth it, Kathy?)

Texas town allows 11-year-old to be mayor for a day; 'tween abuses power and renames main street Justin Bieber Way

If you’ve ever uttered the words, “That’s the Justin Bieber way!” then you’ve probably just done something very Canadian or in the third dimension. Or you live in the small town of Forney, Texas, where they recently allowed a precocious 11-year-old named Caroline Gonzalez to be mayor for a day — an honor she won by winning a contest on Facebook, natch — and renamed their main street Justin Bieber Way. (Ice Town isn’t looking so bad now is it, Ben Wyatt?!)

Gonzalez told local Dallas/Fort Worth affiliate KDAF TV the reasoning behind why she re-named their main street after that ‘tween pop star in particular: “I just really like Justin Bieber and I thought it would be cool if we had a street in our town named after him.” Fair enough. Honestly, if my town had elected me mayor for the day, in addition to making Dunkaroos mandatory school lunch fare, I definitely would have renamed my street New Kids on the Block Block, so I can’t judge. The stars were out in full force for last night’s Teen Choice Awards 2011. From Gossip Girl to The Vampire Diaries, Twilight to Fright Night, everyone mixed and mingled. While Taylor Lautner and Chord Overstreet hung out mano a mano, Cameron Diaz and Blake Lively clicked pics of each other on their cell phones. So You Think You Can Dance host Cat Deeley chatted up proud papa David Beckham when he wasn’t taking snapshots of his boys with their favorite performers.

On the blue carpet, EW correspondent Carrie Borzillo asked the A-listers what their favorite all-time teen comedy. Justin Bieber and Ian Somerhalder hugged it out over their mutual love of Sixteen Candles. Teenage dream: Katy Perry shows some love for gigantic Justin Bieber

Four weeks after she partied with 14-year-old Rebecca Black in her “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” video, Katy Perry is living the teenage dream all over again — only this time, it’s with Canadian mini-heartthrob Justin Bieber. Or at least with a giant painting of him.

Perry tweeted a photo of herself Saturday posing next to what looks to be a 10-foot outdoor mural of Bieber in his signature hoodie and side-swept mop of hair. “Eatin’ corn on the cobb [sic] hangin with my adopted son, The Biebs,” reads the caption by Perry, who is pictured in a cowboy hat and a flannel shirt, snacking on an ear of corn. A quick jaunt through her Twitter feed and online tour dates suggests the mural is somewhere in scenic Calgary, Alberta, Canada.  READ FULL STORY »

And they were like, baby, baby, baby, NO! Justin Bieber's issue is worst-selling 'Vanity Fair' in 12 years

If you’ve ever thought to yourself, “Boy, that Justin Bieber is really something! He can sing, he can dance, he can dazzle us with his ability to do things in the third dimension! Is there anything that tiny, talented Canuck can’t do?!” Well, we hate to burst your Bieber bubble, but it turns out there is something the 17-year fails at: Selling magazines. (And, no we don’t mean like when elementary school kids wrangle you into subscriptions for fundraisers. Although you probably should get EW. You know, for the children.)

According to WWD.com, the February issue of Vanity Fair that featured a kiss-stained Bieber on their cover is on pace to becoming their worst-selling one in 12 years. The VF disappointment (his cover story, which asked/threatened readers with the question “Is this the adorable, inescapable face of 2011?,” reportedly moved just 246,000 copies) isn’t the only one for the windswept wonder, as it’s also noted that issues of Teen Vogue and People that prominently featured the “Baby” singer didn’t do so hot, either. Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber are the best-paid stars under 30. Think of all the Ramen they could buy!

Ah, to be young. Youth is a wonderful and tumultuous time filled with exciting career prospects, rocky romances, and making millions of dollars from touring the world, singing, and wearing zany outfits. Okay, so not so much for most under 30-somethings. (In fact, for most under 30-somethings, take out that last part and just add in “Paying off student loans and sharing an apartment with roughly seven people.”) But, then again, Lady Gaga has never been like most under 30-somethings.

The seemingly unstoppable pop star, who is just 25 years old, tops this year’s Forbes list of the best-paid celebrities that are under the age of 30. Forbes estimates that, over the past year, Lady Gaga has earned upwards of $90 million, thanks largely in part to her massive touring schedule and record sales.

Still, Gaga, who rocketed up from No. 3 spot where she sat last year, isn’t the only one making me grateful Cribs isn’t still around to make me wonder where things all went terribly, terribly wrong for me. READ FULL STORY »
