Justin Bieber tries to show off his goofy side in 'SNL' promos -- VIDEO

Is Justin Bieber funny? If the audience at the Saturday Night Live this weekend is as loud as his fans tend to be, the answer to that question might not matter — we won’t be able to hear any jokes in the first place.

Especially if those jokes are this low-key. Bieber mostly plays the straight man to Kenan Thompson’s amiable, creepy Justin Bieber fan in these promos for his upcoming stint as both host and musical guest. At one point, though, Bieber does attempt to embrace his silly side — without ever mussing that signature ‘do, of course.

PopWatch Planner: The Super Bowl, the Grammys, and the return of 'Community'

51st Annual Grammy Awards - Show

Once a year, America puts aside its preference for tasteful understatement and simple pleasures to celebrate everything that is good and loud about sports, television, violence, capitalism, and patriotism. It’s called the Super Bowl — a super… bowl — the clumsy but perfectly christened title for an American manufactured spectacular. The Ravens meet the 49ers tonight in New Orleans, but regardless of the outcome, the commercials will be analyzed, the enormous television audience will be documented, and the buffalo wings will be picked clean.

Check out our other picks for the week below and tell us what you’re watching. Have a great week!

SUNDAY
Super Bowl XLVII, CBS, 6:30 p.m.

The Baltimore Ravens will face off against the San Francisco 49ers in the most-watched television event of the year. More than 100 million viewers will likely tune in to see which Harbaugh brother will hoist the Lombardi Trophy, to watch Beyoncé perform at halftime, and, of course, to see all the dazzling 30-second commercials that companies shelled out $4 million to air. (That’s $133,333 per second.) READ FULL STORY

Justin Bieber to host 'Saturday Night Live'? Why it's a great idea

There can be Saturday Night Live hosting gigs…when you BELIEVE.

That seems to be the motto of Twitter king and recent marijuana-enthusiast Justin Bieber who is teasing fans with a potential Saturday Night Live hosting gig next month. (EW reached out to a publicist for Saturday Night Live, who didn’t return a request for comment.) Last week Bieber tweeted, “2013 got some big things coming…. gonna stay positive. #BELIEVE,” and then added, “2013. what’s coming? #snl ???” Earlier this afternoon he doubled-down, writing, “maybe im hosting and performing on SNL…maybe. :).”

Justin Bieber snapped smoking a mysterious cigarette

All he needs is a beauty and a… blunt?

TMZ has obtained photos of the world’s favorite pint-sized pop star, Justin Bieber, holding what appears to be marijuana. (Or “salvia,” as Miley Cyrus might say.) According to the site, the pictures were taken on January 2, one day after a paparazzo was killed while trying to photograph the star.

And while we can’t verify that the joint-in-hand is, in fact, marijuana — Bieber’s rep hasn’t answered EW’s request for comment at this time — if it is, we’re betting the Biebs crushed some serious amounts of fondue after the fact. READ FULL STORY

YouTube reveals top 10 viral clips of 2012 -- VIDEO

The main takeaway from this list of 2012′s most viral YouTube clips? The days of “Charlie Bit My Finger” and “David After Dentist” are over.

Only one of these 10 videos — “Facebook Parenting” — was made by an average Joe; the other nine were all professionally produced. “There are more and more people who know how to build an audience, how to use YouTube,” YouTube trends manager Kevin Allocca explained to the Wall Street Journal. “There are companies who spend millions and millions of dollars trying to do create these videos.”

So yeah, that’s kind of horribly depressing. But watching these videos might cheer you up — even if many of the entries won’t surprise you at all. (Spoiler alert: Yes, Virginia, “Gangnam Style” made No. 1.)

Simon Cowell the latest celebrity victim of 'swatting' prank

Simon Cowell may be a cad, but he’s not a criminal.

On Sunday, Beverly Hills police received a call about a disturbance at Cowell’s home, EW confirmed. The caller, who used a number from outside the city, gave the department Cowell’s Beverly Hills address and claimed that someone had been tied up with duct tape and needed assistance. Officers contacted the X-Factor creator and confirmed that the report was fake.

Cowell isn’t the first celebrity to fall prey to such a hoax. Since August, Ashton Kutcher, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, and the Kardashians have all been targeted by prank police calls. The practice, called “swatting,” involves false reports of emergencies in order to elicit SWAT responses and other police action. There are an estimated 400 occurrences every year, enough to prompt congressional action in June. At the federal level, the crime carries a prison sentence of 5-10 years.

Awkward: Bieber talks Selena in 'Oprah's Next Chapter' interview taped pre-breakup -- VIDEO

Oof. A lot of people have experienced the peculiar agony of, say, planning to attend a concert with their significant other, then getting stuck with two expensive tickets after breaking up with said S.O. But the unique awkwardness of effusively praising your partner in an interview — only to see that interview get released after you and the partner in question have split — is reserved for celebrities.

It happened to Katie Holmes, it happened to Kristen Stewart, and now it’s happening to Justin Bieber — whose big Oprah’s Next Chapter interview aired yesterday. In the interview, the Canadian idol calls fellow teenage dream Selena Gomez “one of the most genuine people,” citing her “good heart” as one of the reasons he loves her.

The only problem? Bieber and Gomez called it quits a few weeks ago, though reconciliation rumors have been swirling since the moment they split.

Awkward! For the record, Beliebers, Bieber also assures his fans that he would be with all of them — in a nonthreateningly romantic way — if he could. But as Oprah points out, he’s “just one Bieber!” Check out a snippet from the singer’s uncomfortable-in-hindsight interview below.
