Matthew McConaughey weighs in on Justin Bieber's shirtlessness -- What the youngin' should take away

With Justin Bieber well on his way to becoming the prince of shirtlessness, it’s about time that the king weighed in on things, because if anyone has perfected the art of being shirtless nearly all the time, it’s the Texas-born Matthew McConaughey.

After years of taking out the garbage shirtless, running with Lance Armstrong shirtless, playing with his kids shirtless, working out on playgrounds shirtless, and filming movies in which he’s shirtless, McConaughey has more shirtless wisdom than anyone else in Hollywood. And as long as Bieber is ready to fully commit to a lifetime of sunscreen and crunches, we think it’s only logical that he turn to McConaughey for advice.

When MTV asked McConaughey to weigh in on Bieber’s shirtlessness, the king responded with, “He keeps doing it in airports though, right?” It’s true that the Magic Mike star typically wears a shirt through airport security, but that doesn’t mean that he thinks it’s necessary: “I’m not saying you got to wear a shirt in an airport, especially I think [if] he’s flying private. He can wear what he wants.”

Final words of wisdom from the king? Shirtlessness is never out of the question: “It’s appropriate wherever you say it’s appropriate; it’s your shirt.” There you have it, Biebs.

That being said, we do hope that Bieber can learn from McConaughey’s many years of topless experience. Here are five takeaways that would help the young pop star in his half-nude years to come: READ FULL STORY

Justin Bieber's terrible, horrible, no good, very bad 2013: A timeline

Oh, Biebs, not again!

Justin Bieber has always made headlines, but lately, the the 19-year-old superstar is making news that doesn’t cast him in the most positive light. The latest report: Swedish police discovered a small amount of drugs (reportedly marijuana) and a stun gun on one of Bieber’s tour buses. It’s the latest in a series of incidents that have plagued the singer throughout the European leg of his Believe Tour. From orphaned monkeys and on-stage spewage, to late-starting concerts and ill-thought-out messages left at solemn historical sites, Bieber isn’t doing much to dispel claims he’s shaping up to be pop-music’s foremost enfant terrible. Indeed, Bieber’s 2013 has thus far been marked by one unfortunate escapade after another.

We’ve rounded up some of Bieber’s bigger missteps over the last few months to put this latest incident in perspective. Check out our timeline of Bieber’s decidedly un-swaggy 2013 below. READ FULL STORY

Are Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez back together? It's possible.

It’s no secret that Justin Bieber has been heading down an interesting path lately, complete with at least one spitting incident and a portfolio full of more shirtless photos than the paparazzi has taken of Matthew McConaughey. And this spiral coincidentally started around the time that the Biebs broke up with his lady love, Selena Gomez. So is she the only one who could prevent him from shaving his head and wielding a mighty umbrella? Well, we might find out.

Just last week, Ms. Gomez flew out to Norway, which would seem random except for the fact that her ex-beau had a concert there. Biebs then posted (and quickly deleted) an Instagram photo of himself with Gomez — and more importantly, with a shirt on.

Could the duo be back together? We suppose it’s possible. Could that picture have been on his phone for a long time? That’s also possible.

Justin Bieber: I hope Anne Frank 'would have been a Belieber'

If Anne Frank had been alive today, her diary might have been devoted to Justin Bieber — at least that’s what the singer hopes.

Bieber visited the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam and, according to the museum’s Facebook page, left an interesting message in the guest book. “Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a Belieber,” the museum quoted Bieber as writing. (For the uninitiated, Beliebers are devotees of Bieber.) READ FULL STORY

Selena Gomez burns Justin Bieber on 'Letterman' -- VIDEO

In case those dueling versions of “Cry Me a River” just weren’t getting the point across, Selena Gomez wants to make it clear that she and Justin Bieber are well and truly over. And while her ex’s behavior over the past few months has been, er, erratic, to say the least, Gomez seems to be thriving post-breakup: “I’m so good,” she told David Letterman last night, giggling like a schoolgirl who can’t believe she used to date a dude who seriously owns this hat.

And that wasn’t the end of the conversation. Letterman casually mentioned that the last time Bieber visited the Late Show, the host made his guest cry — though to be fair, Bieber deserved it for thinking the Apostolic Palace’s most famous place of worship is called the “Sixteenth Chapel.” Gomez’s lightning-quick response? “Well then, that makes two of us.” Ohhh snap, or whatever the kids are saying these days!

Olivia Wilde reads hateful insults on 'Leno' after Justin Bieber fans retaliate to her tweet -- VIDEO

Olivia Wilde learned a tough lesson this week: You don’t mess with Beliebers.

Justin Bieber, who hasn’t exactly had the greatest couple of weeks, walked around London without a shirt recently — a move that seems to be his new signature. Olivia Wilde saw a papparazzi photo, and tweeted, “Bieber, put your f***** shirt on. (unless you lost all your shirts in a fire in which case my condolences and please purchase a new shirt.)”

In her appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night, Wilde jokingly explained that her initial comment came from a point of concern. You know who doesn’t care at all about the intent behind the message? Bieber fans. “About 35 million people” took to Twitter to lob insults at Wilde for insulting their dream boyfriend.

Happily for us, she read some of the most brutal remarks — including one she dubbed downright Shakespearean — aloud on Leno’s show. Watch below: READ FULL STORY

'Saturday Night Live' host poll: How did Kevin Hart size up?

It’s been an Oscar-caliber season so far for Saturday Night Live. By that, I mean that two of the show’s most popular guests took home golden trophies last week at the Academy Awards, and another was the award show’s host. (And that’s not even counting Best Supporting Actress winner Anne Hathaway, who was no slouch herself when she hosted SNL in November.)

So Kevin Hart stepped into a tight spot on Saturday: he followed Django‘s Waltz, who rocketed into the lead of our Mr. Saturday Night host poll, and he’s got all-timer Justin Timberlake on-deck, set to host next week. Not exactly the ideal place to be for a first-timer. Technically, I suppose, Hart isn’t really a first-timer. As he explained in his opening monologue, he’d auditioned to join the show’s cast before — an experience that didn’t go down too well despite some amazzzzing impressions of Robert De Niro and Denzel Washington. Fortunately for the comic star of Think Like a Man and the upcoming About Last Night remake, Saturday night was a much better experience.

Waltz certainly was a tough act to follow, though: he cruised to a 37-point victory in the latest vote for our favorite host of the season. Christmas-episode guest Martin Short and season-premiere host Seth MacFarlane both lost ground, but are comfortably in second and third place, respectively. Jennifer Lawrence didn’t seem to get much of an Oscar bounce, as her support was slashed in half, but fortunately for her, Justin Bieber‘s fans simply forgot to vote. The worst 19th birthday gift yet for the Biebs: pathetic support that resembled a GPA for a Delta House pledge more than a popularity contest result for one of music’s biggest names.  READ FULL STORY

Happy birthday, Justin Bieber! How will he spend his last year of teenagedom?

Today isn’t just the first day of March — it’s also the one-year anniversary of you officially not having to feel weird about being attracted to Justin Bieber.

That’s right: The Biebs turns 19 today. He’s reportedly celebrating the occasion by stalking shirtless around England before throwing a lavish, £10,000 (that’s $15,043 in real money) circus-themed party in an unnamed London hotspot.

There’s a certain poetry to this location — Bieber was born in London 19 years ago, albeit the one in Ontario. The theme, too, makes sense for someone who’s not a boy, not yet a man; a setting that combines clowns and a ringmaster plus scantily-clad acrobats and (presumably) booze perfectly represents Bieber’s in-between state. Though to really mark the occasion, he should probably sing about it in the desert.

Damon Lindelof goes on hours-long Twitter spree about Justin Bieber's hat

'Saturday Night Live' host poll: Was Christoph Waltz a bingo?

Christoph-Waltz_510.jpg

Question: Can an Oscar nominee help or hurt himself by hosting Saturday Night Live in the heat of the awards’ race?

One month after Silver Linings Playbook star — and Best Actress nominee — Jennifer Lawrence hosted, Django Unchained actor and Best Supporting Actor nominee Christoph Waltz took the Studio 8H stage at 30 Rock. For the most part, he lived up to his reputation as a generous supporting player — squiring Regine and playing a partygoer in a Tippy sketch. But when he did step into the main spotlight, there was something delicious about his cruel gameshow host, something creepy about his secret admirer, and something glorious about his Djesus Uncrossed parody trailer.
