Lip-sync-gate continues: Inaugural official says Beyonce didn't sing anthem live

Well, that settles it (maybe, possibly, probably not): According to CNN, an unnamed inaugural official has confirmed that Beyoncé lip-synched while performing the “Star-Spangled Banner” on Monday.

“Because she didn’t have time to rehearse with the Marine Band, she decided to use her recording with the Marine Band,” the official said, noting that the singer didn’t arrive in Washington D.C. until late Sunday night. The official doesn’t know why Beyoncé elected not to sing live — by all accounts, “she was spot on” in her pre-recording session, and “she’s actually a very good live singer.” There’s apparently no word on why Bey ripped out her earpiece mid-song, either.

Jennifer Lopez defends lip-synching: 'All performers do it at some point' -- VIDEO

As lip-sync-gate rages on, Beyoncé still hasn’t responded to requests for comment or released a statement about whether her Inauguration Day vocals were live or pre-recorded. But either way, Bey can count on the support of her peers — i.e. fellow megastars who understand that sometimes, lip-synching is a necessary evil.

Jennifer Lopez didn’t exactly defend Queen B’s honor while visiting The Daily Show last night — but she did acknowledge that basically every musician has to rely on pre-recorded tracks in certain contexts. “You know, sometimes it happens,” she explained to Jon Stewart. “When you’re in certain stadiums and in certain venues, they do pre-record things.” She also cited Whitney Houston’s iconic “Star-Spangled Banner” as proof that even the greatest singers lip-sync sometimes — “All performers do have to do it at some point.”

Who's on your dream 'American Idol' judging panel?

Steven Tyler announced yesterday that he would not be returning as a judge to American Idol next season, and just moments ago Jennifer Lopez followed suit, announcing that the past season of Idol would be her last.

With Randy Jackson’s spot up in the air, the judging panel for the 12th season of the singing show staple is wide open. PopWatch got to brainstorming who we’d love to see in the judges’ (non-spinny) chairs.

Jennifer Lopez talks to 'Today' about 'Idol': 'Maybe it's time for me to go'

Jennifer Lopez was on Today this morning talking about her role in Ice Age: Continental Drift (she’ll voice a saucy tigress, of course) when the chat turned to American Idol.

Speculation has been rampant that Lopez won’t return to the program next season after two years as a judge. While Lopez officially said that she hadn’t made a decision yet, her wavering sure sounded like she’s making an exit. She explained that while she loved doing Idol, it’s a busy schedule and there are a lot of other things she has to say no to in order to continue on the program—movies, another album, etc. “At the end of the day, whichever way, it’s a heartbreaking decision if I’m going to have to go,” Lopez said.

She further explained, “Like I said, I’ve just enjoyed it so much. But I am thinking that maybe it’s time for me to go and do other things that I really love to do.”

Debbie Allen vs. J. Lo: Who wore an 'I wholeheartedly approve of you' stankface better?

It’s our first-ever Reality TV GIF Battle! I’m pretty psyched.

So who wore it better? Vote for your favorite dancing diva below…. READ FULL STORY

If You Ask Me...: Libby Gelman-Waxner on summer movie style

Because I’m not just a cross-cultural meta-critic but also an assistant buyer in juniors’ activewear, I can explain precisely why The Avengers is such a terrific movie: It’s all about the accessories. Thor, who’s played by that Aussie Viking Chris Hemsworth, smashes bad guys with his magic hammer, as if it were a Birkin packed with bricks. Chris always looks the teensiest bit embarrassed by this, as if he’s holding his wife’s hammer while she’s browsing. Chris Evans, who’s the strong-jawed — in fact, the strong-everythinged — Captain America, has fiddled with his stars-and-stripes spandex for a patchwork, Etsy feeling, but he still protects himself with his round bulletproof shield, which looks like it could also be used to pass hors d’oeuvres at a Fourth of July barbecue. As Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. slips into the world’s most all-powerful outfit, as if it were a jet-propelled, rocket-launching Chanel suit, and the green-skinned Hulk, as played by the adorably dweeby Mark Ruffalo, is pure makeover, switching from rumpled khakis to what the Fashion Police on E! refer to as a pop of color. Is J. Lo leaving 'American Idol'?

Fox will not comment, but according to E!, American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez will call it quits after her second season reigning over the tiny teens. She’s had one-year contracts for seasons 10 and 11. Ms. Lo is just too busy! She’s launching a mega tour with Enrique Iglesias this summer in Latin America and the U.S. with plans to go worldwide in the fall, so she’ll be overseas when Idol auditions kick in for season 12. Jennifer Lopez unseats Lady Gaga on the Forbes Celebrity 100

According to the just-released Forbes 2012 Celebrity 100 List, Jenny from the Block is back. She handily defeated Lady Gaga, last year’s No. 1, as well as Oprah Winfrey (No. 2), Britney Spears (No. 6), and Steven Spielberg (No. 10). Lopez’s resurgence can be credited to her gig as a judge on American Idol, as well as her Kohl’s clothing line, her top-selling fragrances, her endorsement deals with L’Oreal and Gillette, and the two movies she has coming out this year.
