'HIMYM' cast answers the famous 'Inside the Actors Studio' questionnaire -- VIDEO

The cast of How I Met Your Mother is doing a lot of reminiscing leading up to Monday’s series finale. Some of it involves tears, but there is plenty of laughter, too. On Inside the Actors Studio, however, reflecting on nine seasons of sitcom magic includes talking about what turns Barney on — and it might not be what you expect.

Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris, and Alyson Hannigan sat down with host James Lipton on Thursday’s episode, and per usual, the conversation started with the Bernard Pivot Questionnaire. The cast members answered as themselves, as well as in character. From the word that makes Radnor absolutely cringe to Barney’s legendary answer to that most amorous question, find out what the crew had to say in this video:

Amy Adams mourns Philip Seymour Hoffman on 'Inside the Actors Studio'

Amy Adams and Philip Seymour Hoffman shared the screen in Doubt, Charlie Wilson’s War, and The Master and shared a friendship off-screen. An episode of Inside the Actors Studio featuring Adams aired Wednesday night, but was taped only three days after Hoffman’s death.

Host James Lipton brought up Hoffman during the interview, which led to Adams turning to the audience and saying, “Gosh, I wish you all could get a chance to work with him. He was beautiful,” Adams said, “and he had this unique ability to see people. To really see them. Not look through them.” She later said, “I just really loved him, and I know so many people did.”

'Arrested Development' cast does 'Inside the Actors Studio': 10 things we learned

Okay, a moment of Bluth: Last night’s Inside the Actors Studio, which featured much of Arrested Development‘s cast and the show’s creator, wasn’t exactly essential viewing.

For starters, several key players were missing — including David Cross, Michael Cera, and Tony Hale. (A Bluth reunion with no Buster?! Sacrilege!) And secondly, even though the group was pared down, there were still so many talented people onstage that an hour was hardly long enough to give any of them a worthy spotlight — no matter how quickly the show’s editors cut from answer to answer. I almost wish the Studio had instead welcomed only a few of AD‘s stars, especially if the entire cast wasn’t going to be around anyway; at least that way, we could have gone a little bit deeper.

Still, the episode was an entertaining hour of television — and it had a fair share of illuminating moments. Here are the top few, plus a couple extra tidbits gleaned from the additional video clips posted on Bravo’s website:

'Inside the Actors Studio' reaches 250 episodes: The best clips from the first 249

Acting guru and ex-Parisian pimp — seriously — James Lipton has never had trouble attracting big names to Inside the Actors Studio, which began airing on Bravo in 1994. Lipton’s first interview was with former Actors Studio president Paul Newman; the show’s first season also featured heavy hitters like Alec Baldwin, Sally Field, Dennis Hopper, Arthur Miller, Neil Simon, and Stephen Sondheim.

Nearly 20 years later, Lipton has chatted with hundreds of boldfaced names both awe-inspiring (Meryl Streep! Morgan Freeman! ) and… occasionally less awe-inspiring (was anyone really yearning to hear J. Lo describe her craft?). And naturally, those visits have produced days’ worth of footage containing innumerable gems. So, on the eve of the show’s big 250th Episode Spectacular — which airs tonight at 7 p.m. ET and will feature repeat visitors Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, Barbara Walters, and, er, Jennifer Lopez again — we looked back at some of our favorite moments from episodes past.
