Kareem Abdul-Jabbar wrote 2,700 words about why he loves 'Real Housewives'

NBA all-time leading scorer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar isn’t a big fan of HBO’s Girls, a “white ghetto” of a show filled with unappealing protagonists (“We’re supposed to find these girls somehow charming because of their flawed characters,” he wrote in February.) But in a new Huffington Post column, Abdul-Jabbar reveals that another group of (mostly) white, self-involved, fatally ignorant televised characters has indeed stolen his heart: The ladies of Bravo’s Real Housewives, a franchise the athlete lauds as “the best social insight into the American psyche since Huck Finn and Jim explored the soul of America on a raft of lost innocence.”

And that’s not even Abdul-Jabbar’s most hyperbolic analogy.  READ FULL STORY

Stephen Colbert has strong feelings about Jeremy Irons' 'strong feelings' on gay marriage -- VIDEO

While giving an interview to the Huffingay Huffington Post, Jeremy Irons used his lusciously British voice to say that he “doesn’t have a strong feeling either way” about gay marriage — before rattling off a list of his feelings about gay marriage. If they weren’t strong, they were very strange, including this: “Could a father not marry his son? … Men don’t breed, so incest doesn’t cover that. Now if that were so, then if I wanted to pass on my estate without death duties, I could marry my son.”

Let’s all ignore the fact that this is legally impossible and skip straight to when Stephen Colbert makes fun of him in the Report house-style — equally savage and loony. Start the video for the reference to pigs; stay for the reference to wolves.

Take a look at both the HuffPo interview (which begins at 29:50) and takedown below.

Jim Carrey's passionate gun control op-ed trades fart talk for earnestness

Here’s that sequel to Ace Ventura: Unlikely Gun Control Advocate we’ve all been waiting for!

Jim Carrey made waves last Monday with a Funny or Die video called “Cold Dead Hand,” which spoofed the pro-gun advocacy of the NRA and the late Charlton Heston. After Fox News’s talking heads spent the rest of the week raking the Golden Globe winner and his liberal ideas over the coals, Carrey shot back with a statement that called the network “a last resort for kinda-sorta-almost-journalists,” “a media colostomy bag that has begun to burst at the seams,” and perhaps most damningly of all, “a giant culture fart.” (And this from a guy who knows his farts.)

But in a new Huffington Post op-ed, Carrey trades name-calling for passionate arguments about why he feels gun control is so essential. “I disagree wholeheartedly with those who say that there are just too many guns out there to control and that more gun laws won’t make a difference,” he writes. “Change must start someplace.” He makes a point to note that he isn’t in favor of eliminating the right to bear arms, “though it is in the vested interests of those who profit by gun sales to make it seem so.” READ FULL STORY
