'How I Met Your Mother': Does it feel like more of a drama than a sitcom lately?

There was a moment during last night’s How I Met Your Mother episode that made me remember why I’m a fan. A moment that reminded me why after seven seasons I’m still tuning in religiously: Barney’s adorable/accurate observation that because of their pouches, sea horses should be called sea kangaroos instead. [Just a warning, MAJOR SPOILERS ahead if you haven't watched last night's episode!]

TV Leaderboard: 'New Girl' gobble gobbles its way into EW.com reader's hearts

New-Girl

It may have started as one of the fall seasons most divisive new shows, but New Girl firmly grabbed the hearts of EW.com readers this week with its Thanksgiving episode, in which Jess invited prospective mate Paul Gunslinger (Justin Long) over for a turkey dinner partially cooked in a clothing dryer. Elsewhere, How I Met Your Mother‘s ongoing Barney/Robin will-they-or-won’t-they-oh-they-did-but-then-they-ultimately-didn’t plot line kept the show in second place for another week. 'How I Met Your Mother': Is this the end of Robin as we know her? Nay, knew her.

HIMYM-Robin

“What do you even like about me?” That was the question Robin posed, at two different critical times to the two men who love her, Barney and Kevin, during last night’s gut-wrenching episode of How I Met Your Mother. [SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU STILL HAVEN'T WATCHED]

For years that was an easy question for any HIMYM fan to answer. Because, in spite of being from Canada (as Barney once cried, “Why are you guys even a country?”), Robin Scherbatsky (or Robin Sparkles/Robsy Wobsy/Scherbs, if you will) is a loyal friend, a hard worker who has paid her dues, a fun roommate (at least, if you like someone who doesn’t throw empty milk cartons away), and, depending on your feelings on her gun fixation, a damn good shot.

But many fans, myself included, had to re-examine their feelings for Robin after what she did to Barney — and let’s face it, eventually Kevin — last night. READ FULL STORY »

EW's Bite of the Night for Monday, Oct. 31, 2011

We at EW scoured the TV line-up last night to find the best one-liners from your favorite shows. Last Monday’s Bite was from a very opinionated man on Dancing With the Stars, so it’s no surprise that this week’s performance episode provided another stand-out quote from the DWTS gang. A few funny fellows, courtesy of How I Met Your Mother and Two and a Half Men, also got in on the action. So how did backsides, sex tapes, and strippers find their way into EW’s Bite of the Night for Halloween 2011? Read on…

Want more? You can read all three recaps: See what Shaunna Murphy had to say about Two and a Half Men, read Annie Barrett’s Dancing With the Stars recap before she reveals her hidden gems, and see what Sandra Gonzalez made of Katie Holmes’s highly anticipated turn as the “slutty pumpkin” on How I Met Your Mother.

'How I Met Your Mother' react: The guest stars steal the show! Did you expect them to come back the way they did?

For an episode that was so heavily about Barney and Nora, I sure didn’t have a lot of post-episode thoughts on them. But that’s to be expected when an episode featured a guest star slate as impressive as this one.

When I first learned Chris Elliott, Wayne Brady, Frances Conroy, and Bill Fagerbakke would be returning for the episode, I wasn’t sure in what capacity they’d be turning up. And in my wildest dreams I never could have imagined how they’d all be worked into an episode — especially considering Marshall’s dad (Fagerbakke) died last year. I would have put money on “flashbacks,” but I would have been wrong. As it turns out, the episode took a far less direct approach (and even featured a guest spot that I didn’t know about!). Contrarian Corner reluctantly welcomes 'How I Met Your Mother' over for an intervention

HOW-I-MET-YOUR-MOTHER

How I Met Your Mother has always been a little bit like the Lost of sitcoms: It’s a great show with a rabid fan base that picks up on every little clue along the way, hoping everything will piece together when we finally see the big picture at the end. But perhaps, in this seventh season, the show is a becoming a little too much like the dearly departed ABC series. Because I’m finding myself echoing a frustration many felt during Lost‘s run: It seems HIMYM isn’t sure which direction to head in. This season, the series seems, for the lack of a better word, a bit lost. (And Ted’s kids are really just in heaven and the yellow umbrella will matter about as much as the goat, in that it won’t matter at all.)

That being said, let’s be clear: I am still hopelessly devoted to HIMYM and will continue to love it until the very end. I just wanted to sit it down in Contrarian Corner, have a chat, and let them think about what they’ve done for a while. This is purely out of love! It’s for your own good, HIMYM.

First things first, the season got off to a great start with the Victoria curve ball… until fans quickly realized that while she may be part of the big picture, she’s definitely not the mother. READ FULL STORY »

Happy news on How I Met Your Mother — and I’m not talking about the news that Kal Penn finally seems to be finding his rhythm on the show. (But I’ll get to that in a minute.)

Nope, the big news on the latest episode of Mother is that we now know Lily will soon be giving birth to a….  READ FULL STORY »

'How I Met Your Mother': Do Ted and the Slutty Pumpkin (Katie Holmes!) look oddly good together?

HIMYM-Holmes

I was pretty skeptical about Katie Holmes coming on to How I Met Your Mother as a guest star — and was not sure how I felt about her taking on the iconic role of the Slutty Pumpkin. But behold the photo to your left, PopWatchers. As you might have guessed from the headline, I sort of love this picture of Ted and Her Sluttiness (<Can we please use this?) from the Oct. 31 episode.

I think it’s a combination of her Joey-esque haircut and her giant smile that won me over in this pic. Suddenly, I’m pretty excited about meeting the Slu…erm..Naomi.

What about you readers? Are you excited we’re about to meet this incredibly important person from HIMYM mythology? Do you predict it will be all you hoped it would be?
