Tonight’s episode of How I Met Your Mother may have stopped short of confirming our worst fears about the Mother’s fate in this heartfelt tale, but it certainly planted enough seeds to have me preparing for a real gut-punch come finale time.

Ten hours before Robin and Barney were set to get hitched, the gang found themselves making vows of a different kind — to never drink to the point of Hangover Hell ever again.
The declarations were brought on by the aftermath of Barney’s drinking bender that, as we saw in the last new episode of How I Met Your Mother, left him befriending lost bros while wandering the streets.
In this week’s episode, Barney’s adventures in drunkenness were very much over, and what was left was a pile of useless suit-covered flesh. Any other day, this wouldn’t have been too much of an issue, but as I mentioned, we have now arrived at Barney and Robin’s actual wedding day. There were things to do. Specifically, Barney and Robin were set to take their wedding pictures, but since he couldn’t hold himself upright, that was going to be tricky to pull off. Again, this would usually not be a problem because Robin’s a cool bride, but in this case, Robin father was paying for everything and his reaction should Barney show up in a less-than-desirable condition was going to be a big problem. Jimmy Fallon may have been twerking with Will Smith, but the Late Show with David Letterman had some special guests of its own last night, when all five main cast members of How I Met Your Mother stopped by to read the Top Ten List: “Top Ten Surprises In The Final Episode of How I Met Your Mother.”
Fans have a ton of questions about what will go down in the final installments of the long-running sitcom: Will Barney and Robin actually get married? Will Ted meet the mother in a way that is suitably romantic? More importantly, will Ted allow the wedding to take place at all, or will he pull a Taylor Swift and stop the ceremony?
None of those questions were answered last night, but the cast did drop a few goofy hints. Note to MacLarens: You might be getting turned into a Duane Reade. Watch below: READ FULL STORY
When you love something, you want to protect it.
So when it was announced a few months back that the beloved, long-running sitcom How I Met Your Mother was getting a spinoff, fan reaction was pretty mixed: On the one hand, great! Let’s continue the party at MacLarens. On the other hand, the television landscape doesn’t have a great history of spinoffs based on recent popular sitcoms (RIP Joey). While How I Met Your Father Dad will have the same creators, many fans –myself included – still thought that after nine seasons, it might be best to leave well enough alone and not tarnish the memory of a sitcom that gave us Interventions, the Dobler-Dahmer Scale, and five best friends who we’ve truly come to care about.
But then yesterday came the news the spinoff had cast indie film star Greta Gerwig as the star. She’ll play Sally, “a female Peter Pan who has never grown up and has no idea of where she’s going in life.” Like the original, the show will be told via flashbacks, but beyond that not much is known about the project. But for the first time, the Gerwig announcement made me genuinely excited to check the show out this fall. READ FULL STORY
You drenched yourself in Drakkar. You wore a fresh pair of white socks. And you pulled out the best mime moves your body could handle. Yet, the ladies at that party you just left still weren’t interested. What are two down-on-your-luck bros to do? Well, if you’re the guys we met at the top of tonight’s episode of How I Met Your Mother, you’re on your way home alone. That is, until you meet an inebriated Barney Stinson on the road, who swears to show you the way to the Promised Land…of awesomeness.
And show them he did.
Barney took these nameless bros under his wing and taught them the lessons of his people. He took them to a magical strip club to show them the wonders of fearless interaction with females, sent them to Tim Gunn to get outfitted with proper suits, and accompanied them to the party they had struck out at earlier to teach them the moves of a proper Wingman. (“Haaaaave you met…”) READ FULL STORY

You know that moment where you learn something about a person and suddenly they’re not who you thought they were? Tonight’s 200th episode of How I Met Your Mother was a half hour of that — an unraveling of a person, in this case The Mother, that completely changed the person I’d assembled in my head over the years from the tiny, perfectly-placed clues that had been placed before us viewers. Shattered is my mental image of this Dream Girl put on this Earth solely to be the opposite end of Ted Mosby’s two-piece puzzle life, and suddenly in front of me is a real woman. A woman who’s survived real heartbreak, gone through real challenges and has real goals in life. I’ve been waiting nine years to see her like that — and I gotta say, it feels wonderful.
But let me dive a little deeper into this milestone episode and fill in the last eight years of The Mother’s life…
