What is your damage, London Olympics? (Vol. 2)

Welcome to ‘What Is Your Damage,’ Annie Barrett’s summer shop of all the melodrama and self-absorption she misses from springtime reality TV. Every Tuesday and Friday, she’ll rant about a current offense to her humanity, then assess readers’ damages via video replies. Don’t be shy about admitting what annoys or intrigues you. We’re all in this pop cult together!

What’s your damage, Olympics? This week I’ve already railed against poolside interviewer Andrea Kremer and NBC’s hideously disjointed men’s all-around gymnastics telecast, so it’s time to lighten up. Today’s all about wedgies, towelies, and a lovely temper tantrum from a “challenging character” in women’s gymnastics. But first and foremost: Can these gross-outs please stop spitting in and around the pool?

What is your damage, Princess Merida's hair?

Welcome to ‘What Is Your Damage,’ Annie Barrett’s summer shop of all the melodrama and self-absorption she misses from springtime reality TV. Every Tuesday and Friday, she’ll rant about a current offense to her humanity, then assess readers’ damages via video replies. Don’t be shy about admitting what annoys or intrigues you. We’re all in this pop cult together!

What is your damage, Princess Merida’s hair? I am going through some MAJOR HAIR ENVY this week and it’s all 1,500 of your individually animated CGI curls’  fault!

You’ve completely mesmerized me. I see you everywhere now — undulating and breathing fire over my bed, waving your honorary Independent Spirit award in front of my face and whispering with varying degrees of fierceness, “Look at all my different textures.” I want to buy a blanket of you that I could drape over my head while in public and prop up somewhere in my line of vision while resting in private, non-mirrored rooms. Since you came into my life, I’d mist you so bad. READ FULL STORY

Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman) explains his blond hair (sort of)

The Internet is freaking out over Nick Offerman, Parks and Recreation‘s Ron Swanson, going blond — a look he sported at last night’s Peabody Awards in New York City. Asked if the makeover was for a role, Offerman sent the following response to EW through his publicist: “Although I am changing my look drastically for a couple of roles this summer, I really was just looking to have more fun.”

Offerman also made headlines this spring for being bald in a video supporting the Americans for Marriage Equality project, and for sporting stubble but no mustache while promoting Casa de mi Padre with Will Ferrell in bathrobes on the fourth hour of Today. (Wow. We really care, don’t we?)

Nick Offerman sans mustache: I'm in

Yes, Nick Offerman is hilarious as Ron Swanson on Parks and Recreation. And it stands to reason that the man married to the incomparable Megan Mullally would be the cat’s meow. (He watches The Bachelor, y’all!)

But I have to say that what put me over the moon for Offerman was his appearance on the Kathie Lee and Hoda hour of the Today show this morning.  He and his Casa de mi Padre costar Will Ferrell showed up wearing bath robes and sipping drinks to promote their Spanish language movie. But the most striking thing about the interview for me was that it was the first time I saw Offerman without his trademark Ron Swanson mustache. And I have to say that it was… delightful.

Cate Blanchett on plastic surgery: 'It doesn’t fill me with admiration, it fills me with pity.'

Cate Blanchett isn’t willing to meet in the middle when it comes to the topic of plastic surgery. The au naturel Oscar-winning actress, who is currently filming The Hobbit, was asked the inevitable plastic surgery question during an interview with Fashionista.com and gave an answer that would bring a smile to any woman’s face. (Well, any woman’s face that is still capable of smiling, anyway.)

“There’s been a decade or so of people doing intervention with their face and their body. Now that we’re emerging from that people are seeing that long term, it’s not so great,” the 42-year-old — who has been put on People‘s Most Beautiful People list — said, adding, “I’m not sitting on a soapbox telling women what they should and shouldn’t do, but I know what works for me. I’d just be too frightened about what it means long term. In the end if you have all that stuff done… in the end you just see the work. It doesn’t fill me with admiration, it fills me with pity.”

Taylor Kitsch's short hair a problem, even for airport security -- VIDEO

John Carter star Taylor Kitsch stopped by the Late Show With David Letterman last night and entertained Dave with a story about getting stopped by customs at an airport in the Philippines when his passport had no room left for a stamp. He was informed he was going to be sent back on the next plane to Japan, where he just flew in from, but Kitsch, who had a work visa to film the upcoming Oliver Stone film Savages, told the agent he was an actor — which the man didn’t believe. With the airport’s computers down, and the man not familiar with X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Kitsch pulled out his iPhone and played him the John Carter trailer. “He’s like, ‘That’s not you.’ I’m like, ‘What?’ He’s like, ‘You have short hair.’ And I’m like, ‘Mate, I cut it. It grows. It’s me,’” Kitsch says. Luckily, the guy liked the trailer and Kitsch got to stay.  READ FULL STORY

'American Idol': Deandre Brackensick, Jessica Sanchez early frontrunners for hairography, cuteness

And they may look familiar! We remember silly vanilli Deandre Brackensick, 17, from last season of American Idol. The judges brutally cut him on the Green Mile after Hollywood Week, but not before we were treated to plenty of loving zoom-ins on his exquisite face and hair. In a way, all of us had won. Except Deandre.

Jessica Sanchez, 16, appeared on the first season of America’s Got Talent when she was just 11. These crazy kids!

They can both still wail even in their old age. The hair pair sang “It Doesn’t Matter Anymore” with Candice Glover on tonight’s Las Vegas show. Watch that standout performance — and evidence of Deandre and Jessica’s former near-stardom — here.  READ FULL STORY

Grammys 2012: Who rocked the best pompadour?

If there was one red carpet trend to be found at last night’s fashionably chaotic Grammys, it was some attendees putting the actual pomp in pomp and circumstance. (If only two or three more people had brought Popes. Sorry, Nicki/Roman, but one Pope date does not a trend make.) No less than eight stars hairsprayed their best Conan O’Briens when they arrived at the Grammys rocking sky-high pompadours.

Ben on 'The Bachelor' is Alfalfa from 'Little Rascals'

So said EW.com reader “jr” on today’s episode recap. Good work, gumshoe!

Do you think the original Alfalfa (Carl Switzer) would be caught dead clunking out a shaky rendition of David Gray’s “This Year’s Love” on the piano? Is this a rhetorical question?
