What is the news here my editor you might ask? For those of us still invested in his career (and the length of his hair, it’s longer!), it’s that we haven’t seen many photos of Friday Night Lights‘ Taylor Kitsch since he was promoting Savages in June 2012. Last night, the former Canadian Junior Hockey League player was snapped enjoying the Ducks-Kings game in L.A. with a small beer, a big grin, and a Riggins-esque wardrobe. In short, we’re as happy as he looks in this pic. READ FULL STORY »

What is your damage, London Olympics? (Vol. 3)
Welcome to ‘What Is Your Damage,’ Annie Barrett’s summer shop of all the melodrama and self-absorption she misses from springtime reality TV. Every Tuesday and Friday, she’ll rant about a current offense to her humanity, then assess readers’ damages via video replies. Don’t be shy about admitting what annoys or intrigues you. We’re all in this pop cult together!
What’s your damage, Olympics? Last Tuesday, I railed against poolside interviewer Andrea Kremer among other Olympics offenders like Ryan Seacrest. Friday’s Volume 2 brought spitting in the pool, a lucky towel, and a very special wedgie. But most damaging right now? NBC interrupting — and cutting a significant chunk from! — a primetime SPORTING event in order to air another “What is….London?” Mary Carillo segment. Brutal! READ FULL STORY »

What’s your damage, Olympics? This week I’ve already railed against poolside interviewer Andrea Kremer and NBC’s hideously disjointed men’s all-around gymnastics telecast, so it’s time to lighten up. Today’s all about wedgies, towelies, and a lovely temper tantrum from a “challenging character” in women’s gymnastics. But first and foremost: Can these gross-outs please stop spitting in and around the pool?

What is your damage, Princess Merida’s hair? I am going through some MAJOR HAIR ENVY this week and it’s all 1,500 of your individually animated CGI curls’ fault!
You’ve completely mesmerized me. I see you everywhere now — undulating and breathing fire over my bed, waving your honorary Independent Spirit award in front of my face and whispering with varying degrees of fierceness, “Look at all my different textures.” I want to buy a blanket of you that I could drape over my head while in public and prop up somewhere in my line of vision while resting in private, non-mirrored rooms. Since you came into my life, I’d mist you so bad. READ FULL STORY »
Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman) explains his blond hair (sort of)

The Internet is freaking out over Nick Offerman, Parks and Recreation‘s Ron Swanson, going blond — a look he sported at last night’s Peabody Awards in New York City. Asked if the makeover was for a role, Offerman sent the following response to EW through his publicist: “Although I am changing my look drastically for a couple of roles this summer, I really was just looking to have more fun.”
Offerman also made headlines this spring for being bald in a video supporting the Americans for Marriage Equality project, and for sporting stubble but no mustache while promoting Casa de mi Padre with Will Ferrell in bathrobes on the fourth hour of Today. (Wow. We really care, don’t we?)

Nick Offerman sans mustache: I'm in
Yes, Nick Offerman is hilarious as Ron Swanson on Parks and Recreation. And it stands to reason that the man married to the incomparable Megan Mullally would be the cat’s meow. (He watches The Bachelor, y’all!)
But I have to say that what put me over the moon for Offerman was his appearance on the Kathie Lee and Hoda hour of the Today show this morning. He and his Casa de mi Padre costar Will Ferrell showed up wearing bath robes and sipping drinks to promote their Spanish language movie. But the most striking thing about the interview for me was that it was the first time I saw Offerman without his trademark Ron Swanson mustache. And I have to say that it was… delightful.

Cate Blanchett on plastic surgery: 'It doesn’t fill me with admiration, it fills me with pity.'

“There’s been a decade or so of people doing intervention with their face and their body. Now that we’re emerging from that people are seeing that long term, it’s not so great,” the 42-year-old — who has been put on People‘s Most Beautiful People list — said, adding, “I’m not sitting on a soapbox telling women what they should and shouldn’t do, but I know what works for me. I’d just be too frightened about what it means long term. In the end if you have all that stuff done… in the end you just see the work. It doesn’t fill me with admiration, it fills me with pity.”
