What is the creepiest TV show of all time?

Rubber Man! The flukeman! The Man from Another Place! Television has a longstanding history of giving viewers the heebie-jeebies, whether it’s via a bald, nearly-silent observer who can seemingly read your mind, or a posse of desperate humans covered in guts so they can safely pass through a pack of zombies.

But what TV show has been the absolute best at slithering underneath our skin and haunting our slumber for days after it airs? Is it the newest addition to the horror show coterie, FX’s American Horror Story? Is is a short-lived-but-no-less-sinister mid-’90s show like American Gothic (with Gary Cole) or Millennium (with Lance Henriksen)? Is it the show that helped inspire The X-Files, the 1974 cult favorite Kolchak: The Night Stalker? Or is it a death match between the grandpappy of hair-raising television, The Twilight Zone, and its upstart cousin The Outer Limits? TV Leaderboard: 'Breaking Bad' finale was so, so good, according to EW.com reader ratings

Welcome, Breaking Bad addicts. The past two weeks, you’ve proven you have nothing but good feelings for Breaking Bad, turning the AMC series into the highest-rated show among EW.com readers two weeks in a row. So it’s not so surprising that the season finale of the Bryan Cranston-starring series captured the No. 1 spot once again this week, finishing atop another previous first-place finisher, The Vampire Diaries. Other shows that didn’t suck for you all? Fringe and two series making their leaderboard debuts. Here are the full standings:

'The No Doctor Cop Lawyer Show': How 'Fringe' evolved into a great TV show

Even the most die-hard TV fans have their blind spots. Until a couple weeks ago, mine was Fringe. I had watched the series premiere way back in 2008, thought it felt like warmed-over X-Files with a dash of The Nutty Professor, and immediately checked out. While I was off falling victim to the short-lived charms of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Kings, Fringe was slowly but surely transforming into an exciting, wholly unique TV show. (EW’s TV critic Ken Tucker named it the second-best series of 2010.) In preparation for the new season of Fringe, I marathoned through the show’s first three seasons — a Fringe binge. I’m a better person now, and I’m also working on a new romance self-help book, Olivia or Fauxlivia?: How To Make Sure Your Lover Hasn’t Been Replaced By an Alternate Universe Duplicate.

TV Leaderboard: 'Breaking Bad' passes 'Vampire Diaries' in EW.com reader ratings

The CW’s The Vampire Diaries may have been tops in EW.com reader ratings last week, but that was only based on partial data — we hadn’t yet been able to include Friday and Sunday programming. And now that a full week of new TV is under our belt, a new champion has emerged: AMC’s Breaking Bad, in which a desperate Walt turned to Saul for help after Gus brought the hammer down. Also moving into the top ranks: the season premieres of Friday’s sci-fi freakout Fringe, and Sunday’s lawyer-cum-political-cum-domestic drama The Good Wife. Fall TV Fridays: What to watch live? What to DVR?

For many, Fridays are for going out and kicking the weekend off right. For me however, Fridays are for Fringe. Though the cult series starts back up tonight, I don’t need to see the latest episode to know I’ll be tuning in for the entire season. It’s not the only show that fills up my Fridays though. LIVE: Nikita (CW): I missed out on most of this show last season since it conflicted with Bones on Thursdays, but now that it’s on a new day and time, I’m ready to tune in. (Premieres tonight)

'Fringe' Friday: Fox launches Web series 'Past + Present + Future' to recap the sci-fi epic

As mind-boggling as Fringe can be, devoted fans of the Fox TV series probably have no need for a refresher course about the show’s now-elaborate mythology. Yet “Past + Present + Future” – a new series of recap videos that launches today at Fox.com – is worth checking out for longtime viewers (and is a must for newbies curious to check out the sci-fi drama in the wake of its acclaimed third season), especially with Dr. Walter Bishop himself doing the narration. Now that you’re armed with our Fall TV Preview double issue, it’s time to hit the ground running. And by hit the ground running, we of course mean settling in for a lot of television viewing from the comfort of your couch. Still, we realize this can all be pretty overwhelming. After all, for as much television as we consumed over the summer — from Big Brother to True Blood — the viewing schedule wasn’t nearly as jam-packed as it soon will be. (Plus, we even went outside from time to time!) With the premieres of all the new and returning programs just days away, now is the time to get ready. (If you’re far behind on a series, like say, The Good Wife or Community or The Vampire Diaries, you’d better start watching those DVDs to catch up riiiiight… NOW!) Find a buddy: Why do we watch TV? To talk about it the next day, of course! Like in college when you’d take classes with a pal and take turns attending so you could exchange notes (which this writer totally never engaged in, just knew people who did), you’ll need a partner through the fall TV season. 'Fringe' Mystery Finale: We've solved it! PLUS: John Noble, Joshua Jackson talk cliffhanger, renewal and more

“It’s radical. It could wipe clean the entire slate of Fringe.”

So said Joshua Jackson in an interview with EW.com a few weeks ago about the season finale of the Fox sci-fi series. It was a bold claim, and hard to appreciate without knowing what was going to happen in  “The Day We Died.” But now we know. SPOILER ALERT FOR THE DVR SET! The finale was part Crisis On Infinite Earths and part “Days of Future Past” with a touch of A Christmas Carol (“Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come” section): After activating the so-called “doomsday machine” engineered (allegedly) by a sophisticated primordial culture known as The First People, Peter Bishop (Jackson) was allowed to observe a key passage of his life 15 years in the future. How? We were encouraged to believe that 2026 Walter (John Noble) had developed the means to draw 2011 Peter’s consciousness into the future via “brain porting” (one of several curious new fringe science words included in the show’s credit sequence; also see: Desmond Hume from Lost) so Past Peter could realize that choosing to use the doomsday machine to destroy the “over there” parallel world would produce a bleak, terminal future for the “over here” world.
