Bear Grylls on how to survive 'Sharknado,' other movie scenarios

bear-grylls.jpg

In his new show, Running Wild with Bear Grylls, the outdoors expert teaches celebrities how to survive in the wild. So when Grylls stopped by the EW video studio, we had him teach us a thing or two about survival… in Hollywood.

We gave Grylls some of the toughest survival scenarios presented in movies and asked him for tips on how to deal with each one. From Titanic to Sharknado, he has a pretty good idea of how some characters could’ve made it out of their films alive.

Can you name every costume in our Comic-Con supercut?

Comic-Con-video.jpg

As anyone who’s ever dreamed of wielding superpowers or living in a magical fantasy realm or fighting demons knows, San Diego Comic-Con is the ultimate safe space for geeks—as one Con-goer told EW earlier this month, “Nobody is judging you here.” That’s why attendees go all out, bedecking themselves in elaborate outfits that put some low-budget big-screen costumes to shame.

Some of the best cosplayers we saw at Comic-Con this year make appearances in the following video, including one extremely convincing Han Solo in carbonite, more than one Daenerys Targaryen, a pair of Breaking Bad enthusiasts in yellow hazmat suits, a ninja turtle, someone channeling Barf from Spaceballs, a Bob’s Burgers-themed family (including one dressed like a burger), a Bane, a Hellboy, the Queen of Hearts, and a whole bunch more.

Ultimate geek cred question: How many of their costumes can you identify?

What you could do with 100 percent of your brain: A supercut

10-percent-of-the-brain.jpg

Even though it makes up a major plot point (actually pretty much the plot) of Lucy, the myth that you only use 10 percent of your brain has been pretty thoroughly debunked.

But for whatever reason, mostly because Hollywood doesn’t really need to pay attention to science, this pseudo-science, with varying numbers tacked on, still appears throughout film and television. The possible outcomes of using the other 90 percent, however, differ between cases. There are the standard examples, like Lucy and Limitless, which promise intelligence-related superpowers. Others, like Seinfeld and Honey I Shrunk the Kids (the TV version, natch), just promise intelligence. And some, like My Stepmother Is An Alien and Flight of the Navigator, take the conceit in a whole new direction.

'Dallas': Josh Henderson, Linda Gray reveal their first celebrity crushes in our Pop Culture Personality Test -- VIDEO

PCPT-DALLAS.jpg

When Dallas stars Josh Henderson and Linda Gray sit down next to each other, it’s as if they’re sitting down on the couch at home. But seriously, can Ezra and Toby please beat up “A”?!
