Colin Firth surprises Ellen DeGeneres -- and puts underwear on his Oscar: Watch!

Colin Firth, who won the Best Actor Oscar for The King’s Speech, made a pit stop on his way to the airport Monday and surprised Ellen DeGeneres during her morning meeting. Watch the segment below, which airs on today’s show. You may recall that DeGeneres gave him a pair of formal underwear (think tuxedo design with carefully placed fringe) during a Valentine’s Day appearance on her show for him to wear to the Oscars. (She also gave him a pair in 2006 when he recounted a mortifying story about having to be rescued by his neighbors when all he was wearing was underwear and slippers.) He said he would have worn them, but they shrank in the wash. Fortunately, they were now small enough to fit his Oscar. DeGeneres couldn’t let him leave without announcing his arrival to the Warner Bros. lot with a megaphone.

Congratulations, Colin. You have now earned your own category on PopWatch. Popping by to thank us sometime might be nice. More than nice.

Darren Criss talks about 'Glee' and sings about 'Finding Nemo 2'

Glee star Darren Criss is on Ellen today, where he talks about his role as Blaine, “coming out” as straight, being on the cover of EW, and his hopes for a Finding Nemo 2. Actually, he sings that last part. Prepare the swoon-o-meter, friends, because there will be swooning. READ FULL STORY

Ellen DeGeneres' birthday show: A hot kiss from Colin Farrell trumps a surprise visit from Julia Roberts -- Watch!

Ellen DeGeneres celebrated her 53rd birthday today with a show full of surprises — to her. In case you missed it, here are the highlights. Watch videos after the jump.

George, a nurse from Portland, Ore. who wanted to spend his birthday with Ellen, was flown to the show and not only gifted a pair of scrubs with Ellen’s face all over them — he got to be Julia Roberts’ mouthpiece as a blind-folded Ellen asked her first mystery guest questions to try to guess who it was. It was Roberts’ first appearance on the show, which DeGeneres joked was more exciting than John Jacobson, who’d been on moments earlier doing his Double Dream Hands routine. “Just barely,” Roberts joked. (Roberts also joked that she was happy she hadn’t worn khakis, and Ellen said that’s how she should have made her entrance  – among his backup dancers. Seriously. Yes.)  READ FULL STORY

Paula Abdul on 'Ellen': Simon is 'like a fungus'

Paula Abdul swung by Ellen today to shill for her new show Live to Dance, but the talk quickly shifted towards American Idol. Paula talked about trying to keep her season-finale return to Idol a secret from Simon Cowell, and how much she enjoyed his shocked reaction: “I always like making Simon cry.” Ellen prodded her fellow ex-Idol judge about her love/hate relationship with Cowell, which Paula summed up in these immortal words: “He’s like fungus, in the sense that he just sticks around for a long time, and then finally you just surrender to it.” Ellen: “You surrender to fungus?” Paula: “Yeah!” READ FULL STORY

Camille Grammer on becoming a Real Housewife: 'I didn't want to do the show ... Kelsey wanted me to do it.'

Surprise. Camille Grammer doesn’t think she’s been accurately depicted on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. On today’s Ellen, she tells the pedaling host that being on the show wasn’t even her idea in the first place. “Kelsey wanted me to do it, surprisingly enough,” says Camille, of her now-estranged and re-engaged husband. “I didn’t want to do the show. I wasn’t ready to expose my life that way. You know, we’ve been a private couple for a long time … for the most part, we really kept to ourselves. I was surprised he wanted me to do it, too? I was like, Are you crazy? Why are you making me do this?” (As for recent rumors of her departing the show, Grammer says nothing has been decided yet.)

Check out the clip below, in which Camille tells all: READ FULL STORY

2010's Most Bizarre Reality TV Moment: What's your pick?

“Most Bizarre” seems like the reality TV equivalent of “Best.” You gotta consider your genre!

Reality-TV-Hills-Idol-StarsImage Credit: Adam Larkey/ABC; Lifetime; MTV

It’s been a ridiculous year in “reality.” Bristol Palin outlasted fallen pop star Brandy in a televised ballroom dancing popularity contest. Ellen DeGeneres was suddenly sitting on Simon Cowell’s lap and then –poof!– both of them were gone. The Hills may have been fake molehills all along. And bangin’ Gretchen Jones took center stage on Project Runway, transforming the competition series into a riveting character study that often seemed like a senior-year elective for psych majors (PS 801: Raging Narcissism in the Age of Reality Television). What fictional characters would you most like to visit this holiday season?

ned-flanders-30-rock-kennethImage Credit: Fox; Mary Ellen Matthews/NBCA survey conducted for HomeGoods stores revealed that Ellen DeGeneres is Americans’ ideal guest at a holiday cocktail party, a December vacation with George Clooney at his Italian residence would be bellissimo, and Michelle Obama is the top choice to decorate a Christmas tree. Well, I hate to be a Cold Miser, but Ellen, George, and Michelle just checked their calendars, and they already have plans on the day of your event/trip. Whenever that is. They’re booked. But thanks for asking.

Since there’s no chance that an actual celebrity will drop in on you over the holidays, let’s make this more interesting and open up the conversation to fictional characters. (You never know!) Personally speaking, I’d be thrilled if David Brent of Wernham-Hogg swung by for my holiday bash. I’d plant him next to my wife’s single friends and just observe the magic. Plus, he’s a cinch to dance. I also wouldn’t mind taking a holiday to ‘America’s Playground,’ Atlantic City 1929. Gamble a bit, catch-up with Nucky Thompson, shoot someone. And if someone’s going to help decorate my Christmas tree, I insist that Ned Flanders and 30 Rock‘s Kenneth Parcell are involved.

Madonna's solution to end bullying: Stop gossiping for one day

madonna-on-ellenImage Credit: Michael Rozman/Warner BrosOn today’s Ellen DeGeneres Show, Madonna adds her voice to those supporting gay teens and calling for an end to bullying. “I know a number of people have spoken out about it, but I feel like I need to say something. The gay community has been incredibly supportive of me. I wouldn’t have a career if it weren’t for the gay community … I have a teenage daughter and I have ongoing discussions with her about this topic, so I feel like I need to say a few words,” Madonna says, via satellite. The singer claims to knows what it’s like to feel isolated and alienated as a youth. When did things change for her? She tells DeGeneres, “It wasn’t until my ballet teacher, who was also gay, took me under his wing and introduced me to a community of artists of other unique individuals who told me it was good and okay to be different and brought me to my first gay disco and ironically made me feel I was part of the world and it was okay to be different.” How does she talk to her kids about bullying? “We talk a lot about the importance of not judging people who are different. Not judging people who don’t fit into our expected view of what’s cool and what isn’t,” she says. “Think about it across the board. The concept that we are torturing teenagers because they are gay … It’s unfathomable. It’s like lynching black people or Hitler exterminating Jews. Sorry if I’m going on a rampage right now, but this is America. The land of the free and the home of the brave….”

Madonna also issues a challenge, which she believes could be a solution: “I think it would be interesting for everybody to try one simple experiment … Try to get through the day each and every one of us … without gossiping about somebody. Without gossiping about anybody. And not only that. Not even listening to gossip. Walking away from it. Can you imagine what your day would be like? How much more free time you’d have? I also feel like you’d feel about better about yourself…”  READ FULL STORY

Greyson Chance? There's an app for that. (Er, him.)

Greyson-ChanceImage Credit: Bob Charlotte/PR PhotosDo you like Greyson Chance? Well, now there’s an app for that, too. The YouTube sensation and star of Ellen DeGeneres’ eleveneleven record label just released his own iPhone/iPad app on the heels of releasing his debut single. The free app, available on iTunes, offers fans the latest in Greyson news, tweets, videos, and music. So now, the 13-year-old mini-Bieber (who knew that was possible?) is literally at the disposal of your fingertips. Cool? Yes. And for the very affordable price of free, I imagine many tween girls just got an early Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa present.

Are you fans of Greyson Chance, PopWatchers? Will you be downloading his new, free app? And more importantly, would you, like me, be willing to admit that you wish you had your own app? It seems like all the cool kids have them these days. I’m starting to get jealous!

Sofia Vergara plays goofy prank on 'Ellen'

Ellen DeGeneres played a ridiculously funny gag with the help of Sofia Vergara this week, having her pretty much act like a crazy person. Vergara gamely played along, crying, screaming, galloping around, and claiming she was shooting a movie called When Dogs Are Running, and Horses Are Silent. Heh. READ FULL STORY
